I recently came across an article on Essence.com that discusses how women in the African American community view themselves. As a black woman, what interests you? What do you want? What would you like to see changed? These are some of the questions Essence.com asked its readers and partnered with a market research company to get the answers and the US Census Bureau. Take a look at some of the findings from the survey and see if you agree!

1. Black women hate being labeled as too aggressive, too angry, or too demanding.

2. Black women have a healthy view of themselves with 55% of black women thinking they are sexy, 65% of black women saying they have a lot of self confidence and 70% agreeing with the statement, “I am happy with who I am.”

3. Black women mentioned that money and health are some issues that keep them up at night and that education, the Black family and President Obama’s performance in the White House are the important issues within our community.

4. Older black women are more likely to consider their role models to be women such as Michelle Obama, Maya Angelou, and Oprah while the younger generation (women born between the years 1980 and 1995) are more likely to consider their role models to be women such as Beyonce.

Interesting! Shoutout to the sistahs! =)
