Jordin Sparks, Tika Sumpter and Carmen Ejogo shared with fans their first pic from the set of the “Sparkle” remake yesterday. Jordin, who will fulfill the title role of the aspiring music star, tweeted the photo with the message: “#Sparkle sisters!!”
Tika and Carmen will play Jordin’s siblings (and fellow members of the Supremes-style, Motown-era group) Dolores and Sister.
Whitney Houston will play their mother, while actors Omari Hardwick (of “For Colored Girls”), Derek Luke (of “Antwone Fisher”) and Mike Epps (of “Next Friday”) round out the cast. Cee Lo will also make an appearance as an opening act for the trio, and R. Kelly has signed on to write original music for the new film.
The husband-wife team Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil (who have production & writing credits for “Moesha,” “The Jamie Foxx Show,” “Soul Food,” “Girlfriends,” and “The Game” under their belt) will create the film. SOURCE
