In an interview with Glamour magazine the daughter of legendary model Iman who has said she’s been on a diet of some form since she was eight talks about going from a size 26 to a size 6.

One month postsurgery, I was back at work and down 20 pounds. Other people couldn’t see the difference, but I could feel it. Before the surgery, a reasonable portion left me feeling deprived; I was always thinking about my next meal. After the surgery, good food in moderation was unbelievably satisfying. To feel that way and lose weight so quickly was both exhilarating and strange at the same time.

Six months in, I was down another 80 pounds. For the first time in my life, I didn’t have to shop in a plus-size store. (Yay, H&M!) But it felt foreign and made me anxious. There were so many things to choose from, I enlisted friends to help me shop, because I couldn’t tackle it all at once.  A year later I was 160 pounds and, because of my height, a size 6. A staggering number of people walked up to me asking if I was a model.

I know a few women who felt having this surgery was a free pass to eat anything they wanted. They all started out following the instructions, but just like the alcoholic who celebrates a milestone in sobriety, by having a drink, these women eventually feel they can handle the sugary, salty, greasy foods and before you know it, back to square one. Trust me, this is not a healthy alternative, and to be honest, these women and men are actually the guinea pigs for these procedures since the jury won’t be back on long term effects for another 20 years or so. I wish her luck in staying healthy though.

Gastric bypass is for the lazy.
If you’re not happy with your weight then diet and exercise.
    If you are then don’t.

She wasn’t morbidly obese or even “The Biggest Loser” contestant big, she could have changed her diet and hit the gym to lose that weight

You can’t say lazy. A person that has had the Gastric Bypass surgery has to work out and follow a a plan for the rest of their life. Including vitamins and other pills. I have not had the surgery. I know a few people and some have gained that weight back as well as returned to old eating habits like snacking all the time.

@luvquest. If they have to workout, and follow a plan for the rest of their life, then why not do that from the start. It’s obvious, they don’t want to do ALL that is necessary to lose the weight. In other words, instead of doing McDonalds 6 days a week, they want to do it 3 days, and take a serious risk to their health by having this surgery. Perhaps lazy might be too strong, since this is an addiction. But would you recommend a crackhead cutting out some of his lungs so he doesn’t get as high, or an alcoholic cutting out a portion of his brain, that makes him dependent on the alcohol? Sounds a little extreme, no?

i know 2 ppl who had a gastric bypass operation n dey lost ova 120pounds in a year.. it is always easy fo ppl wit a couple pounds(10-30) ovaweight to talk smart n b like oh dont b lazy change ur diet eat healthy n work out.. dis mite work if u want to lose a few pounds..work on ur cardio or live mo healthy.. but when u have a weight of 250+ den all u do wit workin out is ruin ur joints..10yrs from now u will have ur first knee surgery or hip replacement.. i seen it.. dont get me wrong a healthy diet n live style is always a must.. but if u havent bn practicin it fo too long den it wont do much if u turn around eat low carb n fat n run a few miles.. ur metabolism isnt on da level of fit ppl.. so u wud haaardly c any results..n dat is depressin n not a got motivator.. so fo alot of ppl its not da ‘lazy’ way to get a gastric bypass but a gud start to change der diet n recieve great results of weightloss u can build up on wit exercisin n a healthy diet.. n ppl shud b mo supportin when ppl try to change things to da betta..
an eatin disorder is an adiction.. not to b justified.. but its not like u can scuff at a person like ‘tzh y dont u jus stop’.. it is not dat simple.. n dat has not much to do wit laziness.. anybody dat has eva bn thru it or has ppl in der family dat have addictions whether dat may b of eatin or doin drugs..it needs stronger treatments den a simple ‘y dont u do betta n stop?’

She is a beautiful women. However, I wonder if she did this for herself or her mom. Remember Iman is the one who critized our First Lady Michelle Obama about her looks. So I can imagine the ridicule her own child may have faced. Maybe this is why she was overweight trying to measure up to a thin and beautiful mother. Just a thought…

It’s so easy to call people names and criticize but u haven’t been there. I can’t speak from direct experience but I know 2 people who did it. They dieted and exercise with slow results. They’ve been able to gain back maybe 20-30 pounds over the course of several years and haven’t gone back any where near what they were before. They are more health concious and have discipline because they want to stay the way they are. Not all people who do are lazy or unmotivated. This was a jump start for them and I’m happy that they did what it instead of ending up dead or with a whole bunch of health problems.
