UPDATE: According to huffingtonpost.com, a spokesman for R. Kelly disputed the report that the police showed up at the singer’s house with a search warrant, calling it ‘wildly exaggerated and inaccurate’.”
R. Kelly’s spokesperson had this to say:
“A wildly exaggerated and inaccurate report has been circulating on the Internet that Olympia Fields police showed up at R. Kelly’s house with a search warrant just before the singer left for his three-week concert tour in Africa last month and then searched the place looking for a missing 17-year-old girl.
“This is completely false. No police ever showed up at Kelly’s house with a search warrant nor was his house ever searched. It is also not true, as the unsubstantiated report claimed, that any such girl ever stayed overnight in Kelly’s house or that she had been there but left shortly before some mythical police search.
“Kelly’s attorneys have informed the police that they will cooperate fully with any investigation.”
UPDATE : Local media reports are denying a widespread Twitter rumor this morning that police were investigating R. Kelly and raiding his Olympic Fields home.
A local police spokeswoman told Chicagoist, “All rumors are completely false information. There is no investigation into R. Kelly at the present time. We have been fielding calls for the past three days.”
Rumors began flying after the following tweets:
We’re hearing that that R. Kelly is being investigated by the Illinois police for committing statutory rape.

The website spoke with a CONFIRMED person close to R Kelly and here’s what they told them:
A day before [R Kelly] left for his South Africa tour) about 8 police squad cars pulled up at his front gate. One of the officers, in a loud, commanding voice, yelled: “This is the police. Open up this gate at once. We have a search warrant”.
After seeing the officers via his security monitors, Robert instructed his security guys to open the gate. The officers searched the entire house. They were looking for an underage girl who had spent several days at his home with him. Ironically, the girl had just left the mansion about 20 minutes before the police arrived with the search warrant.
The police eventually caught up with the girl, who had just turned 17 years-old–just above the legal limit in the state of Illinois. However, the Olympia Fields Police are still tenaciously pursuing the case. They are still gathering evidence, which includes signed affidavits from several witnesses from within R. Kelly’s circle, who can attest to the girl spending consecutive nights at his home prior to the date of her birthday.
Kelly’s publicst, Regina Daniels, who worked with the singer for 14 years ended all ties with the singer a few years ago amid speculation Kelly slept with her young daughter.
In her statement, Daniels wrote, “I have prided myself on loyalty, respect and professionalism. It saddens me that I was not always shown those same courtesies during my 14-year tenure as Mr. Kelly’s publicist … There are some lines that should never be crossed professionally or personally. Mr. Kelly crossed a line that forever altered the scope of our relationship. For this reason I made the decision to resign.”
