Southern, not all black mothers are how you described. There are many black women who try to work it out with their exes to come to a mutual agreement for the benefit of the child. I know you are angry and upset and tired at the issue with child support and “baby mamma drama”–as many black men are–but try understanding that this is about women who are opportunistic, women who are not financially solvent themselves or just don’t earn as much income as the father.

I think 9 million is a bit much for a baby mama someone who has your child maybe there could have been another way he could have dealt with that. BLAK_BUTAFLY, you make a very good point about children being able to live in a style comparable to the highest paid parent. I believe that there needs to be a better system of checks-and-balances to ensure that the money is being wisely spent. It can be a Catch 22 in some areas. For instance, if the custodial parent (who recieves child support) buys a more expensive home, one could argue that it is to ensure a better quality of living for the child. Obviously though, the custodial parent benefits from this as well. This is why that I believe that any person using CS to pay for a home or any other asset should be required to turn over that asset to their child when the latter turns 20 years of age. Obviously, there should be other factors set in place for fairness, but I think this would help ensure that the child will gain moreso than the mother or father.

As far as Dwight Howard suing his ex, I think he should. She is handling the situation pretty poorly by publically bashing him. For one thing, This is not good for the child. If she was really concerned about the well-being of their baby, she would have dealt with this privately and moved on. Secondly, it IS defamation of a person’s character, so he has a right to sue for slander. Also, it makes her look bad, she is just providing limited information to bias people’s opinions. It doesn’t work! People are smarter than this! She just looks vindictive.

Dwight Howard is not without responsibility, however. As an athlete, he should be aware that when some people see him, they see $$. I don’t know the history of his relationship with this woman, but I think he should have been very careful about her.
