VIDEO: J. Hud vs. Ashanti, “Over The Rainbow”

Jennifer Hudson vs. Ashanti

To celebrate the 70th Anniversary of “The Wizard of Oz,” Netflix hosted a free live concert and movie screening last night in Central Park. The concert featured contemporary interpretations of the films classic songs, and Jennifer Hudson closed the show with her very own version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Ashanti, who played Dorothy in the recent off-Broadway production of “The Wiz” and appeared in the 2005 “Muppets Wizard of Oz,” also recorded her own rendition of  the same song. She released the single on iTunes and performed it on CBS earlier this month.

So, who killed it?

    I am rollin’ with Ashanti. She sounded more graceful and there was more clarity in her voice. J-Hud was kinda’ overdoing it.

    Depends on what you like. If you like a soft pop version, Ashanti. If you like a R&B soul stirring version, J-Hud. Me personally….. J-Hud killed it. Love her.

    I LIKED THEM BOTH..JENNIFER WON OVER THE SOUL VERSION THAT PATTY LABELLE SUNG ITAND ASHANT WON OVER THE MUSICAL WAY THAT IT WAS ORIGINALLY SUNG BY JUDY GARLAND..THEY BOTH DONE A WONDERFUL JOB.

    J Hud version over done. Ashanti…not really a fan but she left a bit of the child-like quality that should be there. I could see another generation of little girls appreciating the Ashanti version.

    I think both of them sound great, J Hud has her version and AShanti has here’s…let’s stop this black on black war against each other and just give each other praise for doing a great job. How about the rest of us stop playing and acting like THE WHITE MEDIA, lets love are Celebs!!! Black power and all that great stuff!!!!

    Why most it always be a contest. Jennifer please stop wearing those awful gloves. Jennifer has a wonderfully beautiful voice but she seems to sing a lot of songs over the top. I almost thought Patti LaBelle was gone breakout. I like Ashantis’ version better.
