GALLERY: Happy Birthday Aaliyah!

Today is the birthday of singer Aaliyah. She would have been 31, but she tragically passed on August 25, 2001 in a fatal plane crash while in the Bahamas. She was there shooting the video for “Rock The Boat,” which was released posthumously.

Aaliyah was truly one of a kind, as she seamlessly blended the concept of street and sweet together in both her music and her style, making her a favorite among men who wanted to be with her, and women who wanted to be her (or at least be friends with her). The soft-spoken songstress was a trendsetting triple-threat whose talents never appeared to have gone to her head.

With her still living in our hearts and in our memory, we wonder what she would have achieved had she still been here.

    HB…Can you show a little decency and remove the picture of the plane wreckage from the montage? It is truly unnecessary and takes away from what is otherwise a beautiful commemoration.

    Aaliyah, was one of my favorite R&B Artist. I was her fan from the beginning and i will always be a fan even in her memory. The first time i heard that she passed away, It was a shocked and a stab in my heart all at once. It seem like one of my family members died i was so sad it took me some time to get over her death, and remember the legacy that she left behind. She was truly a beautiful person inside and out, and will always remain in my heart and never will be forgotten.. Spread your wings like the Angel that you are.
