Two of today’s most talked-about rappers have joined forces on a newly-released track. The single, according to a tweet from DJ Skee, is the official second single of Jay-Z’s upcoming album, The Blueprint 3. On the Timbaland-produced track, featuring Drake, we hear the two go back-and-forth taking jabs at a music industry that still indulges in Timbs, rims, Cristal, and chains, claiming that they’re “off that.” Should other artists being taking heed and following their lead? What do you think of the track?

I personally feel like Jay needs to chill. If every artist was the same, the industry would be boring. His current song is cool, but I would not want to hear that if my day was bad or if I was at a party. Music is music, we need music with meaning, but we also need music that makes you feel good. Alot of these artist he is referring to just like to make fun music. Some are garbage and some keeps people laughing and having a good time. He needs to just worry about himself. At the end of the day, it’s up to the fans. If people want to listen to certain type of music, then it’s nothing he can do but keep making songs about it. If he focus on that so much then eventually people will get bored with him.

I agree with hsballer. Jay Z may be “off that” now that he’s married and pushing 40 (which is good for him) but when he was younger and getting his music off the ground he was very much “on that” and enjoying it to the fullest. If someone has the money to afford Timbs, rims and Cristal (AND handle their other business at the same time), then let them do it. The sad part is that if everybody took the advice from Jay’s li’l lectures, he’d turn around and make a song about how everybody’s jocking his style! And Drake… he’s walking a fine line. He’s denouncing all that luxury stuff on this song, but if he’s rolling with Wayne and Young Money, who idolize material things, then he can’t really have it both ways.
