No knock on either woman’s talent, but as a huge fan of the Legend…. the words “hot” or “hotter” don’t apply to what they did with his song. Sometimes it’s best to just stay in your lane.

Well, the difference is MELANIE can actually sing, and don’t have to use her fine body to cover up that annoying nasally whine that constantly comes out of Rihanna’s mouth as of late. She is a great hook singer, but, on her own, she lacking. Melanie is all woman! Rihanna still is trying to find herself, hopefully, it will be soon.

Rihanna sounds like she saw an oppritunity to be the first to remake a classic in the mist of tragedy and thus failed terribly.

I am a Rihanna fan, but stick to what you do…leave the classics alone, please!!!!! You wouldn’t think Rihanna is Caribbean born. She committed sacrilege by remaking that and didn’t do it justice. I applaud her effort to help out, but like someone else said, write a check!!! I feel her on when and why you wanna hear it, but she should recognize that she doesn’t have the “soul” to carry that song the way it should be. Melanie can sing!!! Definitely more soulful. If that was a spur of the moment, off the cuff rendition…damn!!! I can tolerate her singing it.

I believe both young ladies are talented but tried too hard for such a beautiful song. The song got lost in the runs & extra acoustics.

It’s a simple song & the lyrics stand by themselves. You could almost just speak the lyrics with conviction & have a better impact. I agree that Lauryn Hill has the chops & the depth in her voice to carry such a song.

It would have been nice if Lauryn Hill came back and sing the song. RiRi’s vocal was not all that especially when she could not sing over the music. Melanie Fiona is ok but better than that since I heard her sing lives and she is also a talent song writer (for many top artists).

The first chick’s sent chills up my arms and I almost teared up. “RiRi’s” was good, but didn’t make me feel anything. Both ladies did a great job. They just have different vocal styles.
