danitykane

Want to know what Danity Kane is doing these days? Well mtv.com recently caught up with Aubrey O’Day who says she still keeps in touch with some of her former bandmates:

“I’ve spoken and kept in touch with Aundrea [Fimbres], Shannon [Bex] and D. Woods,” she said. “I think everybody’s kind of getting back to who they were before processing what happened. Sometimes I get random calls of apologies or I’ll call and apologize for things we are processing from the past.”

O’Day said Bex is hard at work on a country album, while D. Woods is recording music and Fimbres is taking some time with her family and is looking to get back into the studio. “We all just wanted to be entertainers in life,” she said. “All of a sudden, we got swept up in this huge mess of a situation that basically all we really were was dolls, a big mass production moved around in order to make money and have power. We were just dolls.

“Here we thought we really believed in it all,” she continued. “But at the end of the day, that’s what you really are. We only saw the music. We only saw each other, and then there were cameras all the time. I think a lot of internalizing has been going on with the three girls that I mentioned.”

As for the music Dawn Richard is making with Diddy for his Last Train to Paris album, she’s cool with that. “I haven’t heard any of that, but I wish them the best of luck,” she said. “They’re both very talented people. … I wish everybody the best, all four of those women. I wish them the most success. I think all of us should and could and hopefully will be great at what we love to do best.”

How can you honestly say that? All the women within this band knew what it took to make it in the music world. Why should Diddy be a punk because of the decision he made? If you recall the choice was also the bands and they decided their own fate not Diddy. Like any other job there are rules you follow and if you can’t follow these rules then there are consequence. It is up to the artist to continue to do what it takes to be in the music world and why should Diddy hold their hands when each and every one of these artist that Diddy has dealt with knew it would take a lot more than making one song. So I feel Diddy has done his part to give them the start they needed and the rest would fall on the artist themselves to continue to make it where they want to be.

Diddy is a pimp of people’s talents. Those large teeth talk a good game… and he always leaves these people shambles while he puts out album after album and makes money from his and their careers. He has NO personal integrity- it shows how he’s always in the tabloids with some new young fling, cheating on his family… so what makes us feel that he would have work integrity. Sean is about making Sean happy. Aubry wasn’t with that… that’s why they clashed. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted her. I hope they all do better without him. Poor Total, Carl Thomas, Young Joc, faith Evans, 112, …ect. The list goes on of the people who he has just USED… then he wanna be in their videos with big shiny suits on all the damn time. Wow.

We all know that Dawn was the problem b/c she seems to think she knows everything. I’m glad Aubrey is doing her thing and aint back down yo that self absorbed b***h Puffy. He thinks he’s God and need to check himself…he aint the king of nothing. What he needs to do is give up music b/c he aint be lukewarm since the 90s b/c of Mase.

The problem was that they were signed to puffy, the music killer. He should have let them work out on their problems instead of just kicking them out so quickly.
I’m glad that Aubrey stood up to his bull crap and is doing her thing. Puff made it look like it was her fault that the group had problems when it was more than that. He kicked out Aubrey and then kicked our D. Woods for a reason i still don’t understand.
I hope they can get back together, but on a better record label because nothing ever last with puffy. He just uses and then toss them away when he doesn’t need them anymore.

P Diddy cannot maintain longevity in his music groups if his LIFE depended on it (smh)! Dude could offer me a record deal today and I wouldn’t take it. Looking at the demise of all his artist/groups over the years (Total, Lox, Loon, Black Rob, Da Band, Shyne, Dream, Danity Kane etc. etc.) just confirms that he is the COMMON DENOMINATOR. The artist are not the problem but instead the label from which they are under. As for P Diddy, I’d say stick to producing and his clothing line because that is the only thing that is consistently working for him. Other than that this trend will continue with P Diddy “$CASHING IN$” on his artist…at THEIR expense!!!

A lot of folks want to bash Diddy for Danity Kane’s implosion, and maybe deservedly so, because the fate of the other Bad Boy acts notwithstanding he is actually the leader of the company. One might say Berry Gordy wouldn’t have let The Supremes self-destruct after only two albums, especially after everything it took to craft the group and their sound, including all those grueling seasons of Making [THAT] Band. The buck has to stop somewhere.

That said, I don’t agree with disrespecting the man for a couple of reasons. Actually three:

    1. Say what you want, the man is a urban music icon. We wouldn’t even be talking about him if he wasn’t. Forget the clothing lines, and fragrances, and comedy specials, and the acting, and J-Lo and all that other crap. He produced Biggie on some of the greatest Hip Hop tracks known to man. Not to mention the hits he made with MJB, Total, Lil Kim, 112, Ma$e, and on and on. The list of artists he’s scored number ones for is a veritable “Who’s Who” of Hip Hop/R&B of the last 25 years. Day 26 and Danity Kane were no exceptions. All those people benefited from his musical instincts, work ethic and marketing ac**en, and so did we. Remember that the next time you’re in your car or in the club bobbing your head to a Bad Boy track.

    2. Some might say that because Diddy had a lot of acts to come and go, that artists like DK signed to Bad Boy who leave or breakup do so because of him…but did you even SEE the show??? I mean, let’s not just make @#$! up. That band was created from a reality-show competition. The women picked for their talent AND their lively personalities, which made the show more dramatic and entertaining to watch than a gang of goodie-two-shoes who always got along. With any group of people, especially women in close quarters, that’s just a fantasy, and is not in line with what we all at least witnessed on the show. Putting the melodramatic flourish in the editing booth aside, it was clear at the end of that series that the DK group members had personal and artistic differences. Differences that mushroomed into things like bad press events where someone said something that offended someone else, and even with some members missing scheduled appearances for the sake of solo projects. Under pressure, the gravity of opposing cliques took over to eventually result in the conflict we watched unfold on the show and in the press. The girls even made it clear that Diddy was unaware of some of the reason for the bad blood between the girls, which they kept close to the vest even as the show aired its final post-series reunion. Diddy’s main source of direct friction was only with Aubrey, and he claims he didn’t know any of the other women had a problem with him as their boss.

    3. No, Diddy is not God, and neither was Berry Gordy. Though they did last for more than two albums, The Supremes did eventually break up, but not before Gordy, Ross, Wilson and Ballard all went through their disagreements, as somewhat dramatized in the “Dreamgirls” play/movie. Such is the nature of the music business. Sports teams change rosters, coaches; some of the people who were at your job when you first got hired aren’t there anymore, and maybe neither are you. Why do we expect our entertainers not to go through the same process of personal growth and decision making for their lives? Change is the Universe’s only constant, and in the most fickle industry on planet earth, musical groups are bound to come and go. Why do we expect Diddy to be stronger than human nature? Maybe because as I said, in our world, he is an icon. And no matter what successes or failures Sean “Diddy” Combs is a part of, he has already given us a clue how he will react in any situation:

“I thought I told ya that we won’t stop. Bad Boy for life.”

CORRECTION: “…The list of artists he’s scored number ones for is a veritable “Who’s Who” of Hip Hop/R&B of the last 15 years…” (not 25).

“All those people benefited from his musical instincts, work ethic and marketing ac**en, and so did we…” AC**EN, as in a high level of skill or body of expertise in a particular field. I don’t know why the site automatically redacted that word. That’s kinda dumb.
