After reading this story I would have to say about this situation that Teddy Riley is wrong for what he did. I understand he is a grown man so he is old enough to make his own decisions but using a instrument such as a guitar and using his hands to beat his daughter is not the answer. In this country they are quick to arrest a man if they hear that he is abusing a woman in any way shape or form. What he should have done when he found out his daughter did not approve of his 18 year old girlfriend was sit down and have a one on one talk with his daughter to find out why she feels the way she does. If its possible try to come up with a solution for the problem if not then tell the daughters that his new girlfriend is a part of his life and if they can’t get along with her that the daughters would have to move out and go live with their mother.

The scripture that that admonishes readers that if they spare the rod, they spoil the child, should not be taken in the literal sense. The rod is a figurative term, and is equal to discipline. Many people (especially those in the black community) yet believe that in order to discipline your child/children you must spank or hit. Violence begets violence. Teddy Riley could have simply had a sensible discussion with his daughters, if there was mutual respect in their relationship, and obviously there is not. Teddy is no “spring chicken” and he better think long and hard about how he treats his daughters. Someday, he may need them to take care of him. Men need to stop foolishly expecting their children to approve of them dating women that are half their age. These girls have a right to express their feelings and opinions. They did not deserve this abuse, and I hope that he receives some battery charges as a result of ignorant actions. We are quick to condemn men for domestic violence in a relationship, well this is still domestic violence, and he needs to be held accountalble. It is most likely not the first time that he has lost his temper and abused his daughters.
