This book should be required reading for all inner city children as opposed to those wretched Zane books they pass around like a virus. I gave this book to the young ladies I mentored and the LOVED it. They related to it and they were able to discuss it for weeks afterward. It dealt with the real issues they face in a way that gave them hope.

The book “Push” is so important to me as a novel its hard to describe…I have loved this book since the moment I first read its words. As i watched the trailer I saw clearly what my imagination had painted form reading the novel and that is so rare to find in hollywood. Yeah, i can’t wait to see this movie!!! I heard about it over a year ago, and i am glad to see it actually materialize. People shouldnt judge Mariah based on GLitter. she did great in the movie Wise Gals (or Wise Gals), the mob flick. Glitter just wasn’t a good movie, and it had nothing to do with her acting. Angela Basset couldn’t have made Glitter a good movie!
Mo’nique tends to do better in dramatic roles than she does in comedies to me. I loved her in Shadow Boxer as a crackhead nurse who was jaded by her Dr. husband, who she had put through medical school.

I never read the book but the movie is very deep. I think that this movie will help a lot of young people get up and do better with their lives and be grateful for what they do have and embrace it in a positive way (teen pregnancy and self esteem). Isn’t the star of the movie one of the contestants from the American Idol audition the one that touched all the judges hearts and she was taking care of her mom who is in a wheelchair? If that is her, she came up beautifully. I would go see this movie, I already give it 2 thumbs up for the script itself along with the co-stars.

The book was incredible and considered young adult fiction. If you haven’t read it yet, I suggest reading the book before seeing the movie!

This sounds like it’s gonna be a good movie. I would love to see Mo take on a serious role. We’re so used to her incredible funny side, I wonder how well she’ll take this on. It’ll also be nice to see Mariah give actin another shot. She might have improved and’ll give us an incredible performance this time around.

The book Push was a very good read I read it years ago and the story is not about baby daddies, goldgiggers or everything like that it’s about hard times no one loving a young girl (not her mother) feeling worthless it’s really sad.

I agree with you N1CNTH1CK about the wording but I read it in English class and we had to break it down to pass the class. So anyone who hasn’t read it already they will have to read it more then once but it’s a really sad story seeing that there are boys and girls going through this everyday. So, those of us who had mothers and fathers or just one parent who loved you unconditional we will never understand they’re pain…but I hurt for them there NOTHING MORE PRECIOUS THAN A PARENTS LOVE.

Ummm…. Shindogg….It’s just a movie, it’s not that serious. Anyway, this movie looks very hard to watch but just based on the trailer it looks like everyone is doing a really good job with the acting! I may check it out when it comes on DVD. I heard Mo’Nique’s performance is getting buzz for awards. I think Mo’Nique is great so that would be awesome if her performance is nominated for an award.

Screening in the festival’s Un Certain Regard sidebar, Daniels is in the running for the Un Certain Regard prize for new film talent.

Daniels’ harrowing film is the story of an illiterate black teenager from Harlem, who is abused by her parents, pregnant with her second child and struggling to get through high school and break out of the welfare cycle she’s been born into.

Daniels said before the screening of his film, which is adapted from the Novel “Push” by Sapphire, that he was “deeply honored” to be in Cannes. “It is a dream, and it is a far cry from where I came from,” he told the audience.

Daniels was joined at the premiere by the film’s stars Gabourey Sadibe, Paula Patton, Lenny Kravitz and Mariah Carey. Mo’Nique was unavailable due to prior engagements.
On Sunday Lee Daniels spoke about the film at the American Directors panel at American Pavilion moderated by IndieWire’s Eugene Hernandez. The director said it has been a “truly humbling experience” to receive such praise for his film at Cannes especially after his last film opened to bad press reviews. When his third film wasn’t received well Daniels said he went into a depressive state, “staying in all day with the covers pulled over” his head. “It’s like a lover leaving you when you’re not liked.”

Daniels said being authentic is what motivated him to get into the film business. He wanted a chance to make movies that help change the “sad characteristics of what African Americans were” instead of housekeepers and drug dealers.

“Precious” will be released nationwide November 6.

I read this book about 4 or 5 years ago along with Coldest Winter Ever & Fly Girl. I wish they would make a movie for the Coldest Winter Ever. I would like to go see P.U.S.H but I think a lot of people are going to down this movie we are living in a age where being bigger than a size 2 is wrong.
