At the end of the day–Beyonce is an entertainer. Eventually all entertainers cross a line when they go for creating art–to art creating them. I Believe Beyonce has reasonable people in her ear, informing her of the pros and cons of each role she takes. But her industry is money-driven.

We can only hope that the role doesn’t smear her image, because she has a strong influence on the hearts and minds of many of the youth living in America.

I agree with a lot of what you all have to say. My feeling is that you are not going to make as an actor at all if you can only do one type of role. A true actor should be able to portray the entire human experience. Violence, Drama, Sex, Drugs, Love, Happiness, Religion, Family, Death…etc: These are the things that go on here on planet earth. Our movies, plays, novels, & songs have always reflected that. And frankly I want to see it reflected in my entertainment. I like real life. I can’t just watch Mary Poppins all day. Funny thing is, most of you probably have high praise for someone like Queen Latifah after doing a movie like Bringing Down the House. Not to mention she played a lesbian in the movie Set it Off. Kerry Washington has played a lesbian in the movie She Hates Me. Even Jada Pinkett played a lesbian in that movie The Women. Hell, who knows, the shid may not even be true for all we know. Beyonce is a strong dancer and an OK singer but acting isn’t one of her better qualities. The film should do fine since there’s a larger enough GLBT audience to support it, just like Brokeback Mountain. If this performance defines her as an actress, we’ll have a better idea of her emotive tendencies since it’s hard to portray a role that an actor can’t feel.

People keep bringing uo Beyonce as a role model. First off, I have a 5 year old daughter and I would prefer that I set examples for her and that I am her role model. Since when do we let people we don’t even know be role models for our children. Second off, when you pursue the art of acting this means that you take on other characters that are not yourself. She may not be the best actress but she obviously has a passion for it so leave her be. Thirdly, she’s doing it for money?
