This is not the first time I’ve heard this….I don’t see why she’d have to make people into somethin they’re not….That makes no sense to me

Its true. I was on last year’s season premier (Sept 8, 2008). The show was suppose to be about being comfortable even if you have some flaws. I was the only African American woman on there and the producers wanted me to act “ghetto”. After several “rehearsed” scenes, and I refused to act that way, they just told me to be myself and “hopefully” things will work out. I did “me” but the show made it seem as if I was insecure, which is FAR from the truth, “but after some words of encouragement from Ms. Banks, I was to accept my insecurities and I could go on with my life.” WHATEVER!!!!
Ms. Banks didn’t have the courtesy to come to us and say hello. She stood in the audience reading from the teleprompter. But I’m not tripping. I got a free trip to NYC, got to promote my book (That’s What You Get For Running With Scissors), stayed in TWO fly hotels and made some new friends (The producers and staff were great).

The only ignorant person I see is the one who wrote this piece. Please proofread your postings. You are suppose to be setting an example.

As far as the piece itself, she is no different from when Oprah, Ricki Lake, Sally Jessie, and the like started as well. They had horribly fake shows, but people tuned in daily. Why must we always find something to tear down about someone who is trying to make it? Let’s not be stereotypical black folks for a change!!

To be honest everyone wants to say how great Tyra is but after looking at her shows when I do get the chance to the show is so WACK and so is she!! I have seen episodes when she has belittled black men. Our just black people in general I don’t know why we watch it!!!!

I’m somewhat torn on my position with this…I just don’t know enough about the business. HOWEVER, I will say that Tyra is not the only show that is guilty of “coaxing” their guest. My half brother was asked to be on Jerry Springer as nothing other than an ACTOR!!! He told me the whole storyline they had for him and all. I assume this is entice viewers. From what I understand Oprah uses some of those tactics. Case in point, her audience are prompted when to applaud. Believe me it is true. Nonetheless, I still got love and respect for her and Oprah and admire their success :).

It doesn’t matter what the show is about, because if anyone ever notices Tyra always ends up making it about her. Either by her actions, body language or her words. It may be called the Tyra Banks show, but that doesn’t mean the whole show is about her. Why have any guests at all if that is going to happen? She should cover more life stories. We have enough to watch about fashion.

Ya’ll know people get paid to come on people shows dude probably got paid anywhere from $100,000-$500,000 just to come on the show and maybe $1million dollars that georgetown professor got paid also and the other latifa and the other guy that was beside the professor and I’m serious if they dont get 1 million dollars they get less but it is so true and this aint shocking that they told him that because they was paying him just to come on the show

I am not saying that producers of shows don’t try to make people do and be things they don’t want to, I am not even saying that Tyra did not do this as well. What I am saying is that why is it that we always have to tear down people who make a difference in our community? Tyra does try and help our young ladies out. She teaches them to love themselves and each other, she seems to be a positive role model for young women everwhere. If you look at the interview on Tyra’s show and you look at the other interview where the young man is saying Tyras producers cohersed him and you will see some flaw in his game. 1st of all, not to be disrespectful, but he admits that he has not done anything since January 2008 and really had no reason why.We would not be saying anything positive about him if he was at a regular 9 to 5 and had not worked since that time, so why are we excusing it, now? a gig is a gig. He says there are no roles out there, but new shows are popping up all the time!(with black folks in them) there probably are not a lot of roles out there for flat characters such as himself. He needs more training and more education in the field he is trying to pursue, its as simple as that. No one stuck a gun to his head and told him to do the show, in fact he admits that he did it for publicity! So, you will make yourself look ignorant on national TV just for the publicity?? How silly is that? I believe that he did just what he wanted to do and realized that HE made himself look ignorant and is simply trying to save face! Tyra just exposed how a lot of our black youth look at life. The saying still applies, no matter if you are an actor or not, “You cant get something for nothing!”

i dont know all the facts but i can understand them maybe wanting him to act a lil like the charactor he plays on T.V. And he, like a lot of other people, probably exaggerated a lil in his depiction.

Fake, Tyra…Duhhh! Everybody knows that a shows success depends on the ratings. Poor ratings, show gets canceled. She need not worry, I do not watch her show and I do not intend to. I hope she is not going to be Oprah’s replacement. I do not watch Oprah as it is. I am waiting to see what and who they will replace her with…hopefully it won’t be Ms. Banks LoL.

Hello Beautiful will take a story and run with it, won’t they? This man never said that Tyra was fake, nor that they tried to get him to act “ignorant,” as the this article claims.
That is probably why they suggests to start the video halfway through, so that we don’t get the full understanding,which to me spells out fake! The producer of Tyra knew him, and knew that he didnt want to go to college, because he was focusing on acting. He came on and told his story. Of course, they wanted it to be more “theatrical;” it’s a talk show, but that does not prove nor imply that her guests are “fake.” This guy just happened to be an actor, and the story he told was his own, and was true to him.

Poetic_Assasin just to let you know: If he had performed the “theatrics” as they wanted, it would have been a lie. In effect they wanted him to act like an ignorant person from the streets, which he did not—–this in order to further denigrate Black men….The good thing is, he was “intelligent” enough to make a distinction about the game the (the producers and Tyra) were playing…..in effect wanting his efforts to be contrived.

for what it’s worth i went 2 tyra show the s**t was nit good! felt like we was waiting in a wharehouse in line then we got in there..and it was freezing ,inthe bathroom was 3 sinks only one worked and there was no papertowel!!!! they took our phones and cameras,and picked people in the audience 2 ask questions that they(the producers )chose! it was a crazy experience..the best part was the gay guy gettin the audience wired up and dancing when it was “commercial”! evevthough tikets was free i wouldnt wast my time on those “free” tickets again!!TRUE STORY!
