My first impression of her was either she is high or drunk her speech was damn near slurred as she was talking ish about Beyonce. She carried on like she never had any class. I’m an Etta James fan. Here, she seems to have refactored the melody of “At Last” a bit, which is the sort of thing that happens all the time with live performances — but she seems to be avoiding the upper registers, and her version is jazzier, rather than delivered in the brash, brassy, gut-busting R&B style for which James is so well known. Regardless, Etta stands head and shoulders over Beyonce (even sitting down), who simply doesn’t have the vocal quality to do the song — or the role as Etta James — justice. I was disappointed immediately when I heard of the casting decision for “Cadillac Records” and didn’t go to see the movie. What a miserable choice! It would have been better to have gotten an unknown who really can sing R&B than to have cast Beyonce, who is a pale, sad imitation, indeed. Beyonce is talented, yes — but she’s certainly nowhere near the caliber of an Etta James. In her prime, Etta could have blown Beyonce clean off the stage.

As an Etta James fan, I absolutely can not stand the way Beyonce sang the legendary song. The video above is not how Etta originally sang it. I must say, however, that I was appalled and embarrassed that this is how such a fantastic, iconic entertainer would choose to behave — especially since soooo many of today’s and some of yesterday’s generation didn’t even realize she was still alive and kicking. I fear that now, should she pass even 10 yrs from now that this “joke” will be part of her legacy. A time when all of ‘Black America’ was rejoicing a White House victory, she resorted to hate over a song that has been covered by MANY artists in the decades since she made it famous.

i think Etta did very well especaially to be doing it at such an older age..that song is a classic…beyonce did well performing it as did Etta.
