Tyra To Launch Plus-Sized Teen Model Search

Tyra is back on her grind. She has a new show coming out that is geared towards plus sized teens. Here’s what she told  media outlets last night:

“I want real teens to say…oh, I’m beautiful too.”

To enter in Tyra’s Fiercely Real Teen Model Search, you need to between the ages of 13 and 19, wear a size 12 or bigger, and be at least 5’9” tall.

The winner will get a one-year modeling contract with a major agency, a photo spread in a major fashion magazine, and a photo with Tyra on the cover of Tyra’s MagaLine.

    I don’t understand why plus size models have to be 5’9″. I mean i consider myself to be a very beautiful plus size female but i’m only 5’4″. Aren’t there short women who would love to be models also? And i agree with Eshia…there are older ladies that would love to do this also.

    I never understand why models have to be a certain size, if the outfit looks well she can represent it well.

    you all have valid points in regards to certain heights now size wise many designers design smaller items , but I agree the “height” thing makes no sense unless she is strictly speaking of run way because thats all about dramatic, towering, leggy…ect

    The problem is that “main stream” America does not really want to see “Plus Sized” models. If they did this with older woman then the show would be the butt of late night talk show jokes and not taken seriously. Doing it with young woman takes some of the joke out of it because people are less likely to make fun of young woman, girl. And the height requirement is what almost all modeling agencies require for a woman to be a real model (Not a model that poses for JC Penny). But then again none of the models from ANTM have really done anything but host a few TV shows here and there.
