I’m a huge fan and admirer of Oprah and what she does, but I am pissed at how she allowed Robin Givens yet another platform to demean Mike Tyson. It’s clear that Robin feels her image as a victim only works if people continue to see Mike as a monster. In Oprah’s interview with Mike a few weeks ago, Oprah asked, expected, and received an honest account of his thoughts, feelings, and actions; then it seems like Oprah allowed Robin to guilt her into letting Robin spit in his face for doing exactly what Oprah asked him to do. Oprah’s interview with Mike was about Mike but Robin found a way to make it about Robin. In the clip Oprah showed of Mike’s interview just prior to Robin’s appearance where Oprah asked about Mike’s thoughts on the old Barbara Walter’s interview, I thought it was a powerful piece of journalism and a genuine get from such a volatile character as Mike. Sure Mike’s choice of words was a little colorful, but I don’t believe Oprah owed Robin or anyone else an apology for not admonishing or chastising Mike for saying he wanted to sock her. Oprah asked what he felt in that moment during the Barbara Walter’s interview; he answered her honestly and candidly. Mike also added that he didn’t sock her, and as a response to Oprah’s questions assured her that he didn’t sock Robin for her comments afterward either; a claim Robin did not dispute. So when did it become our place to admonish, chastise, or condemn someone for his thoughts. The desire to sock Robin was a human emotion during a confusing and hurtful occurrence that in that moment I doubt most of us would have handled with such calm. And as far as Mike saying he had socked Robin before it was pretty clear he knew he was wrong. He admitted there was abuse and said more than once that he didn’t blame Robin for it, and it wasn’t her fault; so exactly why did Mike need to be reminded how wrong it was? Personally, I thought Oprah’s interview with Mike Tyson was masterful. I also think that in Robin Givens’ punk a$$ rebuttal she was less interested in setting the record straight than she was in maintaining the image as a victim that allows her to be a convincing advocate for domestic violence. I imagine the Mike Tyson interview might have raised some uncomfortable questions for Robin while she was out talking about domestic violence, and she felt like while she was on the circuit is the worse time for her to lose her shine. So she had to remind people of who Mike really is – A Monster, a Demon, a Devil, a Woman Beater because the worse he looks, the better she looks. The truth is Mike is a tortured soul, trying to live down a laundry list of bad choices and impulsive actions. So mothafucc Robin Givens and her need to gut punch dude every chance she gets. Mike is in the fight of his life right now; the fight against himself. If he can hold his own just maybe he can save his soul, and give his remaining children the kind of loving childhood he never had.

To be completely honest I think violence of any kind is blown out of proportion if your a certain celeb. I mean the only reason we hear about Mike and Robin, and Rihanna and Chris and Bobby and Whitney because at the time of these incidents they were in their prime. I was in an abusive relationship where I literally got my azz beat on the regular basis for about 6 months just because he was having a bad day and I was good for talking back because I felt een though I loved him so much I wasn’t going to let him speak to me yelling and taking out frustrations on me that had nothing to do with me. The last encounter I recall was us taking a trip and him hopping threw the airport on his foot and my butt being so sore I could barely sit on it from him kicking me several times as I layed on the floor balled up trying to protect my face and him hitting me to the point where I couldn’t see. When I look back on all those times I took that off of him I realize he was wrong for ever hitting me and abusing me but I was even more wrong because I allowed this to happen to me. I get the whole thing when we say I didn’t want to leave because I loved him but what I don’t get is how can you not see your fault in staying when it happens over and over again. That is why I have taken full respondisbilty for accepting that yes I was a battered woman but I also have to love myself enough to take respondsibilty for my life and not allow this to ever happen to me again. As women we can’t expect for someone else to take respondsibilty for how we feel about ourselves. Also as black women we need to know it’s ok to seek counseling and any other help offered to us to uplift ourselves and not blame the other person for why we stay!!! For a person with a small mind you may not understand what I’m saying but for the ones who have common sense all I’m saying is after you get hit the first time yea you may not leave and after you get hit the second time you may not leave but at some point if you love yourself you have to seek help to repair your own damaged self esteem and walk away. Being a vic of domestic volience is never easy when you love that person or so you think you do but at some point you stop being a vic and become a volunteer so be wise because all the sympathany in the world does bring you back if your killed or mangled for the rest of your life. And as far as Robin goes I mean why even look at the interview?? I mean did you expect him to give you a shout out or something LOL!!! You should have been doing something else constructive that day instead of looking at your ex Mike Tyson on the Oprah show…..

I see she’s still milking the victim role 20 years later, all while ignoring all she did in the relationship.

Robin Givens is scary to me. I think this woman is opportunistic, sneaky and manipulative…Now I am a BIG supporter of domestic violence awareness. However, I believe THIS lady had a plan from day one with Tyson. He’s not that bright but he had a lot of money. She on the other hand, is brilliant (Ivy League Education)…they were not a love match. She knew EXACTLY what buttons to push with him, when to push them and a backup plan: using her story to become her own celebrity. She’s still doing it now…OK, but for this mess she pulled on Oprah…sigh..it’s OBVIOUS that she is acting (she’s not that good at it). I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that she wants her own talk show…wouldn’t that be nice?

i agree with most of the comments posted. robin givens is the BIGGEST gold digger there is. mike tyson fell in love with her for whatever reason, robin and her mother married tyson for the fact he was rich and gullible. i mean it is one thing for a husband to maybe buy his mother inlaw a house or whatever but it is another thing for you to move your mother into your house and basically let her run your marriage. i am glad that mike has found a new and stable loving relationship and i am wishing him the best.

LOL, you don’t marry a man who hits for a living, then sit up and try to play him for a fool. no, he may not have attended college like Robin did, but that doesn’t mean he did not know when he was being played. Robin’s momma was in so many pictures you would have thought Mike was married to her. And a previous poster was right, she is supposed to be a spokesperson for abuse but you never see her anywhere. First and foremost its wrong for a man to physically, emotionally or mentally abuse a woman in any way shape or form. With that being said, none of us were there, so anything your basing you rationale on is conjecture, There’s two sides to a story and the truth lies some where in the middle. Its a man’s role to be a provider and he should honor that role but that doesn’t mean a woman should come after him just because of how financially well of he is, thats more than wrong as well. To StarSantiago- Personally I love my sisters, But I believe the reason some brothers go to a woman outside of our race is because that woman understands her role as a woman and lets her man fulfill his role as that man as well. If you can show me the word independent in any book of God, The Quran, The Bible or the Torah please do. You see theres something a woman brings to the table to make a man a better man, and theres something a man brings to the table that makes a woman a better woman. We were created in pairs, it says so in every book of God. Too many woman in our race wanna be the man and the woman, when no matter what you do you’ll never be a man. Let me be the one who says what so many men feel and scared to say and voice it loud. “Nothing a woman can do deserve to get hit” IS A LIE!!! I am so sick of women putting things in Domestic Violence that are not so. I am not trying to score cuchie points or have a lot of women flock to my page praising me. Today some women have this invisible fence of ignorance and it costing them unimaginable consequences.
(1) If a woman is caught in bed with another man or woman.
(2) She cleans out his account than run or for another lover.
(3) Gives him a sexual transmitted disease because she was unfaithful.
(4) Knew a child wasn’t his and lied for years than he finds out because he did a test.
Than she needs her behind kicked. I don’t want to hear you should walk away because you are a woman or you a player who has 2-3 women extra on the side anyway. A man that is FAITHFUL, 1 WOMAN MAN, COME HOME AFTER WORK , LOVES HIS FAMILY AND PUT HIS WIFE BEFORE HIMSELF, A REAL MAN WILL KNOCK HER BEHIND OUT!!I am so sick of hearing that there is no reason, and women running around here not caring what they say to a man, act towards him, or WHAT THEY DO.. Can you see that the Domestic Violence rate is sky rocketing, because this is being spoon feed to women? No you can not do what ever you want, say what you want or act towards a man like you want you can’t. As former law enforcement officer I have handled cases that this ignorant was behind the actions. YES THERE ARE REAL CASES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. THERE ARE MEN AND WOMEN THAT CRUEL,THAT SHOULD BE LOCKED UP. Not for the 4 examples I gave. Its cases where I let the man or woman go once I investigated the case. Rihanna/ Chris Brown case she should have been charged to for assault also. Do I disagree with what he did, he should have stopped swinging when she stopped. Is that easy; NO. When your adriliean gets going its hard to turn off. Any one that has been in combat or in a chase knows this for a fact. Her belief she could swing and not get hit back caused her to act in away that was unimaginable to her. So let me finish about 99% of women will write how I am wrong and a real man will walk away. First of all, who gave women the right to decide what is a real man or not? This is a serious issue that will only get worse if we do not allow real debate to this issue. I am so sick of it Oprah/ Robin Givens I remember what she did to Tyson and how she used him her show head of the class went off the air 2 yrs before they married. Her mother and sister used that man he hit her once, I agree with him. Like I said everyone will probably write and say how this is and that and what they went through, but the fact is Domestic Violence is on the rise and people are disagree with there is nothing you can do to get hit. There are boundaries that should be addressed before he marries her or date her. If these boundaries are crossed it could turn violent. There is something you can do to deserve to get hit, you need to establish what it is..
