I find it disheartening that people are so phobic that any and everthing can be misinterpreted into something it is not. Sometimes too much knowledge or knowledge not given correctly is a bad thing and can do nothing more than ruin the lives of innocent people. While I don’t personally accept the notion of homosexuality and as such won’t permit it into my life I have no control over the actions of others; neither does anyone else. A society cannot legislate morality because society has stepped away from religion and that is where the lessons and laws of morality come from; but true adherence to religion is inconvenient for most so we continue to have problems. Adultery for example goes against religious teaching yet we find it amongst those who claim to be so religious. Lying and cheating are against religious teaching yet again it is found amongst some of the most self-proclaimed “holy and sanctified”.

If anything people are willing to make a mountain out of a molehill on anything related to this school that Oprah built because she didn’t open it in the US. BTW I think she put too much comfort and frivilous things in the school that have nothing to do with academic performance/achievement and will only ruin the outlook for these girls when they return to their impoverished homes.

I do not believe theis school was set up just for ‘straight students’. With that said, this is not a major issue. The same rules apply as in all schools. The guilty parties must be admonished. The rules must be spelled out to them – no unwelcomed sexual advances – and continue molding the minds of these young ladies to become ‘model’ citizens, LOL!

This isn’t about homosexuality. Whether the advances are straight or lesbian, either way, when unsolicited and forceful, it’s wrong. Bullying is bad enough, but forcing someone to do a sex act is unforgivable and punishable by law.

Is Oprah responsible for the students behavior? This matter is very serious. Here we have youths behaving in a way that is not accepted in some societies. These kids are all messed up in their minds, and need help either in identifing their true identity or taking charge of their emotional cravings. There are persons of both sex who are born with hormones that make their behavior patterns differ from other persons. I am not here to judge. But when this problem is confront with in schools, there is need for counselling. These are kids whenever it is said and done, i do not think it is right that they be just cast aside. THEY NEED HELP.

Rough thing Oprah’s gatta deal with about boarding schools and sex scandals. Hopefully it avails much, unfortunately sex is a school age obsession and boarding life has the most bizzare expression of that, yet it’s still worth it to apply disciplinary measures for those who live by moral principles to make what the schools name will usually depend on over the years.

Oprah has always tried to to the right thing in the public eye.Those girls at her school are still human.Althought she went and bulit a school in Africa surely she thought she was doing the right thing. Africa has next to no upholding of the law, fighting and wars all over the place, 33% aids victims, alot from rape, corrup government, starvation, malnutrition and disease that can’t be matched by any other country. Now, here in the USA we have the opposite of “most” of the above. We have government service that help people that are starving, diseased, and homeless. Our government builds our schools for our “free” education. You have free education, a good health system and even a welfared system. I’m from Africa, born and raised and it disgust me how these things are taken forgranted here. My parents broke their backs working hard to get my 3 siblings and i educated – NOTHING IS FREE IN AFRICA. If you are poor then that’s the end of the road. People at home are bright but get held back because there’s no money to get them educated to break the cycle of poverty. My parents grew up in dire poverty and education broke that cycle. i applaud Oprah for opening that school, coz that joy and opportunity afforded to those girls to break the cycle is PRICELESS!! Sex scandals are not new, just because they happen in Africa shouldn’t make it a big deal. Alternate life styles exist in Africa, we just don’t go flaunting it around like the rest of the world because people hold traditions and religion very dear. Oprah is not to blame for these girls behaviours. The best she can do is go by the policy that she has written for school – that’s her part in this. I don’t believe that Oprah is a “Sell Out” because a “Sell Out” wouldn’t build a school for Africans in Africa. We all know that the world doesn’t give a DAMN about Africa or Africans. So for that I congratulate her and give credit where credit is due.
But I know that Oprah is more partial towards Whites than she is toward her own people, which is sadly the case with most African American in her position of wealth and authority in this country.
I don’t know if you remember one of Oprah’s shows where she had these racist organizations on. These Racist stated that they didn’t want any N_ _ _ _ _S living next to them or attending the same schools as their children.
So Oprah asked him if he felt she was the “N” word. He looked her straight in the eye as if to say YES. Oprah had this surprised look on her face as if she believe that he couldn’t possibly think that way about me I’M OPRAH.
At that moment I knew that Oprah somehow felt that American didn’t see her inthe same way as the rest of us, I realized at that point that she was delusional to think they viewed her any other way.
Brother Malcom X put it best when he asked the question,”What does American call a Black Man with a degree, I’ll tell what they call him a N_ _ _ _ R”! And that’s exactly how White American views Oprah, whether she wants to believe it or not. Let something go wrong with her great empire and they’ll show her just where she stands with them.
Now you may say that these statements of mine still don’t address my orginial statement of her being phony, so let me get to that now.
I use to be the Relay Driver that brought packages,mail and certified letters to Oprah’s building (The Ritz Carlton Hotel in Chicago) from time to time.
One day I had some letters that needed to be signed so I took them to the concierge’s desk. As I was walking through the lobby I passed the residental elevators, the doors opened and Oprah was getting off.
This was my first time seeing her in person even though I knew is lived in the building, so I spoke but she never responded. I gave her the benefit of any doubt and said,”Maybe she didn’t hear me”.
So I proceeded to the concierge’s desk and while I was there getting the letters signed for I looked to my right and standing right next to me was Oprah, so I spoke to her again.
Now mind you, she was only 3 inches away from me and once again she said absolutely nothing! As matter of fact, she didn’t even look at me at all, she never even acknowledged that I was there.
So I thought that maybe, just maybe she’s having a bad day and once again gave her the benefit of any doubt I may have had in my mind about her character.
Just then these 3 White ladies were entering the lobby through some revolving doors to our immediate left. The first lady through the door saw Oprah and started telling the two ladies that were with her,”Look, it’s Oprah. Hi Oprah , hi”.
What happen next I never forget the rest of my life and it’s why I say she is PHONY AS HELL and she LOVES HER SOME WHTIE FOLK!
Oprah turned, took her right arm, reached across my face(that’s what I said across my face), went out of her way and waved to those WHITE people but she refused to even acknowledge a African American Man standing right next to her.
I felt disrespected and I was pissed!
When she left I turned to the concierge and asked her,”Did you just see what your girl did “?
All the concierge did was hunch her shoulders and said,”Yeah I saw it”.
The second incident happened at a Burger King that use to be on Congress and State St. here in Chicago. A friend of mines sister worked there.
One day Oprah came in there to get something to eat, when the girl at the register realized who she was everybody from the back came out to say hello to the Great Oprah and she wouldn’t even speak to them. THEY WERE ALL BLACK TEENAGERS BY THE WAY!
When I was told this story I didn’t believe a word of it, that is until she did the same thing to me, twice in one day.
More than 90% ofthe people in her audience is White and that’s who she caters to.
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t her best friend who lives with her a White female?
In closing let me say this, there are too many African American entertainers,
athletes, business people and those who are very wealthy, for us not to have our own Banks, Insurance Companies, Hospitals,Schools and Scholar Ship Funds. I konw for a fact that the Jewish community has funds raisers every year. Every nationality looks out for theirs but us. Why is that?
Helping Africa is fine because they most definitely need all the help they can get and if we as African Americans don’t help, then who will.
But show me where Oprah or any other African American that’s well off as done that here in American. Where is the school she built and funded here in Chicago?

It is so sad that some of our people thrive on detracting from others who are achieving highly. I pity them. There is nothing but high praise that can ever be said about our girl, Oprah. She deserves great commendations not only for her school in South Africa, but for her many gifts she has given for many charities in this country, including millions for the community in New Orleans after Katrina. She and other famous, wealthy African-Americans helped Spike Lee complete the filming of the Malcolm X movie. Many other philanthropic contributions have undoubtedly been made that has helped African-Americans, including a large monetary gift to a school in Atlanta run by Ron Clark for deprived youth who are mainly African-Americans most recently. There are African-Americans in each of her audiences who receive the same gifts as the others. She can’t be blamed for that. {Nevertheless, I do wish she had more people of color on her staff of her magazine and show, I admit that, although I have seen a few.}
And for that detractor who said her best-friend is white and lives with her, is only displaying profound ignorance. I thought everyone could tell that Gayle King is African-American and lives with her own family — not with Oprah. Everyone knowledgeable person knows she lives with Stedman and is obviously not a lesbian. She has little or no control over physical and psychological problems of other human beings. Her only responsibility is to attempt to instill the highest principles of living she can and is doing that in her institution. She should only be commended for her humanitarian efforts wherever she choses to establish it. I deeply thank and express gratitude and high commendations for the beautiful effort and show of low and accomplishment that she had made by establishing this school. And I know she will be open to helping many more of our youth and others of us here in this country where she sees fit. This is her right and privilege. God bless you Oprah.

I do think that Oprah should devote some of her energy to helping out the local community, but I will give her credit for helping out these kids in Africa. But I still think that if Oprah-and many other Black celebs would start helping Black People here in the U.S., it would be much appreciated.
