I’m not familiar with what the laws of N.y. are on spousal support. However, generally, as long as Kelis didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement, most judges WOULD (after taking a number of factors into account) order the wealthier spouse (Nas) to pay enough spousal support to enable the “poorer” spouse to maintain the lifestyle he or she became accustomed to during the marriage. (See Hulk and Linda Hogan).

How can Nas support his child, and not support his child’s mother, especially while the child is still unborn inside it’s mother? I don’t know what caused the couple to split, but, it seems to me that if I was in that position & had the kind of money Nas has, I’d support my ex, the mother of my child, AND the child until some reasonable amount of time after the child is born. Then, sometime thereafter, make arrangements for how the support would change as the baby gets older. No matter what, that will always be the mother of his child. You don’t have to love her anymore, (as she doesn’t have to love you anymore either), nor should he have to support her with spousal support forever, but child support is a MUST. The option may be that he may desire child custody or leave the child in custody with it’s mother, but, you cannot claim to care for your child while it is still inside it’s mother & treat the mother like she’s not entitled to anything. Pay for her maintenance within reason in the meantime & work out a support agreement with the lawyers for the future for when after the child is born. Both sides, (especially his under these circ**stances) need to be civil. “This is your child & this will ALWAYS be your child’s mommy. Take proper care of your business & thank God that you’ve been provided with the financial means to do so.

Okay, for real now. We know Nas will take care of the baby. We don’t even have to trip about that one. But Kelis need to get together! That’s too much damn money for her to try and continue to live the life she’s come accustomed to. It wasn’t like that before so, when the marriage is over, all the lavishness is over too. She needs to get a grip and realize if she’ll be granted that amount for the baby she better learn how to skim off the top.

1) in most jurisdictions accross the united states that is considered infidelity also called adultery.
2) infidelity or adultery nulifies any recourse to spousal support in most jurisdictions for the dependent spouse. no alimony

3) i have never heard of child support for an unborn child being given in any jurisdiction.
4) if kelis and nas have their divorse in a community property state she is only able to access monitary earnings made during the course of the marriage. kelis is only able to access money she can prove that was made during their time marriage. money made form projects completed before their nuptuals are his.
5) property attained during their marriage will be liquidated and the assets split evenly, except for the residence that she needs to raise the child, when the child reaches the age of eighteen that property will be sold and the assets split.
6) he will be liable for support, and half of necessities like private school and other needed support up to and including college tuition, fees, and other expenses.
but her “lifestyle” is about to take a hit no matter how she feels about it.
and she will only accrue the property, monitary (other than child support), and property assets if she is in a community property state

Of all the outragious things that she is asking for, the only one that is reasonable is money to get the baby’s chord blood banked, because that just may be what saves his life down the road. Parents never know what illnesses their children may have, and saving chord blood is really smart, because it is extremely hard for anybody, but especially black people, to find donars.
