Beyonce, on the other hand, CAN BLOW. She has come a long way with her vocal skills, but she shows range, diversity and the ability to hold her notes longer than an eight count. Further, Beyonce does not strain, as some of the other singers do (Kelly), as the notes are sung and sustained effortlessly and she has a perfectly pitched vibrato. Beyonce was not always a strong singer. Singers like Keysha Cole and Mary J. lack range, strain and scream when they sing, but we love it, because their music is so soulful; but if we’re talking about who can SANG, Beyonce is a cut above the rest!

generation remembers Etta James. She should be proud of Beyonce for bringing her back to the the light! Etta, grow up.

I’M 60 AND I REMEMBER ETTA SINGIN’ AT LAST. President Obama is too young to remember Etta doing the song. I think Etta was out of line with her remarks however bringing the song to the forfront could get Etta work if she is ready.

For the record Etta sings At Last better than Beyonce ever will……But guess what ? Cyndie Loper may be even better than Etta when it comes to At Last.

First and foremost; Etta is the s**t! And I am 41 years old and saying that. I may be the only one in America who doesnt think that Beyonce is that talented. She just has good PR people in my opinion. I only wish Etta had been more of a lady than that. She was just being the strong woman she has to be. Additionally I voted for and admire Obama. I wish he would have invited Etta to sing her song. See it for what it was. It was a PR thing. You know with the movie being out and all. No worries. The likes of Beyonce will never be revered as much as the one and only Etta James.

Besides, the movie was work for Beyonce. What’s wrong with that? They don’t usually have the original singer/actress play themselves in a movie. Etta seems to be doing just fine for herself. And, if she gets work behind this, then she gets work.

But in all fairness to Etta James, it was kinda messed up that the President nor the Inaugural Committee even asked Etta James to attend any of the Inaugural festivities. That was not right, and Obama should personally apologize to Etta James.

the beauty of At Last is the Depth of Etta’s Voice, which Bey cant compare to. I guess if she had gotten Etta’s blessing (or at least attempted to) beginning with that flop Cadillac records, there wouldn’t been any drama today.

For some reason I don’t think alot of you understand what Ms. James is talking about and its sad. When you sit and talk to older people they talk about their accomplishments their legacy perhaps. Bey was giving the blessing to play Ms. James in the movie not to began singing her song as if it was hers. Not Ms. James probably went about espressing her anger in the wrong way but I totally understand. As an artists, I’m surprised Beyonce didn’t first get Ms. James blessing or ask her to accompany her at the inauguration. When you accomplish something and someone else takes credit, you can’t tell me you aren’t pissed. This is not about Ms. James being old and senial, or who can sing it best. It’s about respect for an artist and making sure credit is given where it’s due.

Did Whitney Houston have to get Dolly Parton’s blessing every time she sang “I Will Always Love You”? Beyonce has been nothing but respectful and has spoken quite a lot about her admiration for Etta James. Sheesh, she only sang the song because she played Etta in Cadillac Records. At any rate, Etta James has amended her comments by saying that she does not dislike Beyonce, but was insulted that she wasn’t asked to perform “At Last” at the inauguration.

Also, “At Last” was not written by nor originally performed by Etta James. Yes, it is what put her on the map, but Etta James was the THIRD PERSON to record the song. Beyonce has to be the most-hated upon artist ever. Some of the stuff people say about her is mind-boggling and clearly based upon jealousy. And by all accounts, the woman is gracious to everybody she deals with… fans, colleagues, fellow artists, etc. It’s odd the dislike some people have for her.

Etta James is an icon in the music industry. She may have felt slighted by Beyonce because it was her (Etta’s ) signature song. Maybe Beyonce should have given her a heads up just to be respectful of your elders to let her know that her song was the one chosen. But i hear tell B is not long on respecting others. Etta is one of the OG Diva’s and deserves her respect. She opened the doors so ms B could walk through
