Ya’ll, I’m sorry but that dude can sing and I have really heard worst. The judges never said that he couldn’t sing, they simply told him that he was not ready for this level of show. They told him the truth which I wished he was not so upset to hear. This guy just wanted a shot and was hype about his dreams. We all have dreams. He blew up and made himself look bad when he shot off vulgarity to the judges. He lost his clear shot more doing that more so than he did with his vocal ability. Hell, I sang in Europe for almost 5 years straight and had a Broadway spotlight for years and came here and was not picked as a finalist for the BET Gospel competition in ATL last year. They picked a rapper over me and the contest didn’t even have a slot for a rapper in the show manual. Ha! Everyone has his/her season. Being ignorant about another individual’s decision never has a place.
I feel sorry for this man now. He is going down in American Idol’s history of blooper’s. I will bet you he gets an award for that show he did on camera ..Watch!

Whats amazing to me is that I’ve read through a lot of your comments and so many of you are missing the point. Everyone is addressing whether or not he can sing and some have even expressed opinions on Mary. I could careless about his or Mary’s vocal ability. Thats not even the issue. The issue is that he was crazy. Completely, wholeheartedly, and utterly insane. He had the potential to do great harm and was a time bomb waiting to happen. If you notice the forcefulness in his behavior, his inability to listen to reason, his extreme highs and lows and the desperation in his voice, you would be able to see that this was more to him that just a shot at a career. He based his whole esteem as a person on this judgment and had an issue with the perceived rejection itself even when it wasn’t realistically there to the extent that he saw it. Mary was right to want to duck because of his demeanor. Anyone with an ounce of street smarts could look at this nut case and see that he wasn’t fit for idol or society as a whole. I’m trying to figure out why this fool is running around free.

I have one question and a few follow up statements, first, what is Mary J Blige doing on the panel? He’s not lying she really can’t sing like people make her out to. She only sounds good in the studio when she has rehearsed rehearsed rehearsed. If she ever went on American Idol with her talent she would not win AT ALL! She shouldn’t be judging no ones singing just because she’s a star already..

The judges were right, and their criticisms were very considerately delivered from what the vid showed. These auditions are hard… one has to sing without any sort of pitch reference or anything, and in front of TV personalities no less. The boy is only 20 years old, and I’ve heard more seasoned professional musicians sing faaaaaar worse. If he drops the childish act, takes some vocal lessons, and learns that criticism is necessary, then he could turn this episode into the first tough chapter of a career in music. People with less talent than this boy, but with more humility, and maturity have gone farther. Attitude is embarrassing though… I would be picking Mary’s brain on how to practice if I were that fool.

Dude told his boys he was gonna go on Idol and tear the house down.It has been my experience that there are three types of voices…lead…background..and shower. Homey has a voice but not a lead voice he`d be good in an ensemble but DEFINITELY not in a lead capacity. Sorry everyone–but I have to go along with t8styberries and the other person who said that Mary J. Blige is not as talented as she has been made out to be. To be completely candid, when I heard that Miss Blige was going to be a judge on American Idol, I almost fell out of my chair in shock! I feel that she was/is more of an IMAGE–that is, a representation or symbol of toaday’s Hip Hop/Rap culture. I’ve been singing professionally for over 30 years, considered to be in the Top 5 female vocalists in Northern Ohio and can safely say that she is a more of a personality than a talent. I went to see her with Jodeci many years ago and thought her to be interesting perhaps, but not particularly talented. And, let’s add to this, she is HARDLY a “looker”– she is really quite PLAIN in her appearance. It’s surprising that she made it this far, with the “image agenda” being more prevalent now than ever before! Beauty,sensuality (a more pleasant word to use than’w**rishness’) and “animal magneticism” seem to be the order of the day in the music “business” today. She is hardly one who should be the judge as to whether anyone can or cannot sing as she has only become tolerable over the past few years–and that would probably be credited to an amazing vocal coach. Whatsmore, money and fame don’t appear to have “fixed” Mary’s behavior and temperament any–she is proof positive that money cannot by CLASS….slapping her husband in public, calling interviewers “stupid”, etc has only proven that she unfortunately was and still is a “hood rat”–as the old saying goes “you can take a person out of the ghetto, but you can’t take the ghetto out of the person.

I’m seeing where many of you are of the opinion that this clip is funny–but, when you’re a vocalist and have gone through the rejection, disappointment and heartbreak of trying to do what you love most–to your greatest ability–only to be rejected– it’s devastating, to say the least. I’ve been through this and know how painful this kind of rejection can be. I can appreciate the judges’ candor–and honestly feel that they were very kind and easy on him–but that doesn’t make it any less hurtful and embarassing for that person. I personally have stopped listening to what are supposed to be “awful auditions” because it chokes me up so badly…I remember the days of being called names like “terrible”, “awful”, “sucky” etc.–most of which came from my own family!! But,you know what? Looking back in retrospect, I was BLESSED–because all of those put-downs only fueled my desire to become a good singer. My confidence was kicked up a notch when the KJs (karaoke jocks) around town would love my voice and come to my house and get me to “show me off” to other people and other “jocks”. It got to where other patrons who frequented the various night clubs that I would go to would applaud when they saw me coming! (“You’ve GOT to check out this girl that comes to my “GIG” on Friday nights! This girl can SING!!!) Another “positive stroke” occured when one of my personal idols– Martha Reeves (of The Legendary Vandellas)teased me and asked me “Whatcha doin’ singing my songs better than ME?!” And with time and lots of love and coaching I DID become exceptional at singing/entertaining. It is so sad to see these young people’s hopes and dreams become shattered in 3 minutes. What they don’t realize is that there are MANY FACETS of this business. One can get involved on so many other levels: A&R, marketing, studio engineering, session work, promotion, are all a part of the music business, and can be very profitable as well as exciting! You know–I wonder how many of those kids know that Clay Aiken was rejected a few times and went on to be a favorite of many people, as well as being deeply respected in the music industry?

That has got to be the one of the most outrageous and funny things that I have seen in a long time, and trust me I don’t find everything funny! This guy started off talking about how much he wanted to meet Mary J, so therefore he must have been a fan of her music! Secondly he stated that he would respect what the judges had to say whether it was negative or positive. He got up in there and made an azz out of himself, by being disrespectful and acting like he was some obsessed fool trying to prove a point that unfortunately for him they weren’t buying! He deserved to get escorted out by security. None of them were disrespectful and they all tried to offer some “constructive criticism” which by the way he mentioned that he was ok with in his earlier interview ,until they actually tried to give it to him. He was not a terrible singer and I myself have heard worse ,but he lacks vocal discipline and his voice needs training . He kept talking over them,and singing “lalalalalala”, then stormed out and acted grimy because he was too delusional to face reality.He contradicted himself totally. Yes it’s better that they gave his azz his walking papers early because I can see where he would have probably attacked someone (perhaps a judge or another contestant” down the line. You gotta love these wanna be’s with their head all gassed up ,probably by some friends and family telling that that they can sing.Just because you do alot of “riffing”doesn’y mean you can sing. as my singing folks call it , and I have singers in my own family who have toured with national musicals, and sang background for several celebrities so I know!
