However, how do you give advice on staying married for 30, 40, 50+ years if you haven’t done it yourself? Until I read this HB article, I was not aware that he was married three times. To me, he loses a bit credibility. I wonder how long he was married to each wife and under what conditions he got a divorce from each of them.

I have always said how can someone who cannot maintain a relationship give advice about

I have listened to men from all walks of life, all ages…some have been married for several years, some have never been married…the insight that they have shared with me is valuable. That said, I take the information for what it is worth: something that is coming from a man based on what he’s done in his life, where he is.

I read a few things about Steve Harvey after one poster mentioned that he was married three times; he was married to his 2nd wife for 17 years. In his defense, 17 years is a pretty good stretch. I do not know what the relationship was truly like because no matter what (s)he says, there will always be three sides to the story; his, hers, and the truth.

I am sure he is speaking from hard lessons learned. Still, it is good to question a person who doles out advice like this because he may be stuck in making the same mistakes with wife #3 and then what will he write about then?

Steve Harvey is a damn-good comedian and makes my gut hurt with some of his antics, especially on his morning show. As for his marriage advice, maybe he’s not an expert. Then again, when you look at the fact that he’s been married more than once, maybe he is. I honestly think that he wants to share his personal experiences and gained knowledge with all of us. Regardless of what you think, his advice is in high demand. Book sales are very good; there are constant calls to his morning show; and most people first read, then criticize him for making an effort to help couples who are constantly going in circles and are hopelessly connected. Good advice, regardless of its origin, is just good advice. Generally, it is a great thing to see a loving, troubled couple find a strengthening, refreshed renewal in their commitment to each other.

Steve needs to sit his butt down somewhere and get some “GODLY” advice himself. Now enough is enough. I’ve read a few of the comments defending him on “THIS” issue but it’s just not logical from any viewpoint. Some have said, “Well, he’s speaking from experience”. I agree he will be speaking from experience HAVING GONE THROUGH 3 HIMSELF. When he’s able to keep one then he should be giving advice. That’s like you all going to a crackhead asking them how to stay off drugs, or going going to a liar asking them how to tell the truth, or asking R. Kelly how to approach a 30 year old woman, or dentist how to do a heart surgery. I think you all get my point. Don’t ask advice from someone that is as screwed up as you is what I’m saying. These people that are asking for advice will want to know how to STAY married, not how to find a partner after they divorce. If they want to know how to find another partner after a divorce, ask Steve. I’ll give the man credit. His wives are fire (Especially the last one)! When are we going to stop looking at stars for leardership and advice and start getting it from people that are spiritually mature in God’s Word? Just because you see a person tv, hear them on the radio, or because they play a sport, doesn’t mean they have their stuff together. I think it’s a beautiful thing! I really don’t have the time to listen to his show in the morning, but when my cable was out for several days, I turned on the Steve Harvey Show. I loved his morning 6:00 am message. He definitely gives “food for thought.” Now I make time to hear his morning message. It doesn’t bother me that he has been married 3 times, he has learned many lessons, and with age comes wisdom. In my 60 years of life I have learned that “you can’t dislike someone unless it shows a reflection of something you dislike about yourself.” God has truly blessed Mr. Harvey and his family. My 3 daughters loved his book and I’m going to purchase the book and read it too. Keep on keeping Mr. Harvey and with the God in your life he will only take you higher. Like any advice, you take it with a grain of salt. We are all flawed individuals but we turn to friends and/or family members who are also flawed to seek advice. That is really no different then soliciting advice from Steve Harvey.

He’s as qualified as the next person. His book on relationships is a really good read. I like that Steve is maturing as an entertainer, venturing out into broader territory. He’s always struck me as one of the few older Black male entertainers who isn’t trying to be 21. He embraces the “grown folks” philosophy and I appreciate that.

We NEED to hear from men on relationships. We NEED to give them a voice. After all, turn on the radio at any given time and you’ll hear Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Trey Songz, and all of the other knuckleheads giving bad “relationship” advice via their medium, music. If Steve feels that he has something to contribute to the relationship topic, let him speak!

He is an intelligent man. The number of relationships that anyone has been in doesn’t make them more or less credible as sources of information. Each relationship is different, each blend of personalities is different so the experience alone is not the factor. What we take from it and how we make our decisions is what is important. I read his book and whether it’s common sense or whether there was something to learn will depend on the individual. What I DO think is that it’s not just what you learn about the opposite sex but what you learn about YOURSELF also that is important. Getting married three times indicates a lack of knowledge of yourself (how YOU get along with others),problems with self control/self image, inability to change, or inability to make informed choices(all important for a love “Guru”, his personal life aside). The book is not bad but like a bro’ further down the page mentioned, for some bros(but then what bros would READ the book except for those on the same page anyway)it was would should have been common knowledge. As an author fine; as an authority on relationships, I would have to say no.

Celebrities sometimes get away with a lot because they appeal to a large audience and some of that audience may like the celebrity for things they show a normal response to…even if that response is not “universal”. I’ve always liked Steve Harvey as a comedienne, but I knew something was going to go wrong when he tried to paint the picture…of a righteous man. Let’s face it…how could that be possible in the field of work he started in with a reputation for being a player/dog. Now come on. It’s not happening…it worked for a while because the media can make a drug addict look like a hero. We’re all human…but let’s not forget…you can’t change yourself into who you want to be…or need to be for the money..as past deeds will always follow you. His is just starting to surface.
Steve has had a good run, I never bought his book because its like he was transitioning from being the player…to being the ladies outlet. Wrong move…he should have stayed with his original persona and then he wouldn’t look so bad with his “new problem”. When that money started coming…”selfishness kicked in” and then it was all about him. Hey…I’m a man…not perfect…but I know Steve has done a lot more than I would ever do. He’s a good comedienne, but the can of worms that is now opening…was always on the shelf…”waiting to be cooked”. So now he doesn’t like the smell, but the trail is his. Would I take his advice? Depends on how it would sound…if it sounds like it has church music coming from him…I’d have to think it over. Does he have advice on the radio I agree with ? Sometimes….absolutely NOT! It’s a situation…his trail is on it…and there is nothing like a woman when you set her off to reveal all things to hurt you…when you have indeed hurt her. I pray for both of them, the situation is what it is.

This is a bunch OF MESS, FIRST YOU WERE ON TBN crying about your life, then you want to sue your ex. because she putting you on blast, well she just letting the world know the real steve harvey. I thought you was cool until I found out you married some one else. once a cheater always a cheater. Once a man twice a child. is what my granma use to say.

I think Steve Harvey does a great job with the advice he gives. The man has never said he was an expert on this topic. His books are excellent. It is unfortunate what is happening between Steve and his ex wife Mary. I will pray for them. I wish Steve Harvey continued success !!!!!!

He is running around here with his so called christian wife who he was committing adultery with while he was married to the last wife! Please, Essence can keep that crap!

Well… I say yes and no!!!! who better to know thw whys and wherefores that someone that has been involved in various scenarios. on the face of things how dare he give advice, but then again… Who would know how to navigate the terrain that a seasoned vet!!! its not a perfect scenario, but it makes sense. as a bloke you know when a man is triffling, and if you use this knowledge to help others then more power to you and trhem. But… Those in glass houses…………………..

He has no degree in the area of counseling on relationships and having had some revelatory vision since marrying his current wife,doesn’t give him a green light to help anyone! (just sayn)

Mary never had a chance in court either. Steve’s lawyer was Mary’s lawyer. She trusted the lawyer and the lawyer sided with Steve. She is a woman scorned BUT she has good reason to be. All the while Mary and Steve have had this fight going on. His current wife might have the man, but the man needs to be open and honest with himself when he looks in the mirror. So many ppl cover up for Steve b//c they are either a friend or on is payroll. What’s done in the dark will come out in the light. Mary reveals the dark side. Steve and his crew are trying to keep that from being exposed.
