Swine flu isn’t the only virus to be worried about! Apparently, members of the fashion world have been infected with a case of “Blackface-itis” causing them to assume blackface is beautiful and artistic without the slight recognition of its historical context. A string of blackface incidences have been plaguing the pages of Vogue, as well as the CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” cycle 13 season as seen last night.

WTF? Vogue Really Loves Blackface!

On the episode last night, the final six models had a photoshoot in a sugar cane field in Hawaii. Because Hawaii has a large “mixed-race” community (called hapa meaning “half”), the challenge of the photo shoot was for each model to take on two ethnicities even as far as to darken their skin.

Though this is not the first time Tyra has stepped outside of herself and created photo shoots in Blackface, but this one was by far the most extreme. And considering Tyra is a Black woman, there is something very disturbing about turning majority women into “minority-looking.” She even “blackened” the only black competitor up! Was she not “black enough?”

They could not find models that are already dark skin…they had to paint people…dang, maybe we have fallen beyond the minority.

The makeup was absolutely beautiful. They showed races that some people don’t even know exist.

they all looked the same to me…kinda dark yet pasty…not very convincing Tyra…

Get the f*ck otta here BP/HB~ Quit trying to stir a pot of sh*t that no one wants to eat~

Did you hear the background of what the shoot represented? How the Island of Hawaii is a blend of cultures and they wanted to represent that?

Not one of these girls were jooking and jivving around acting a nut~ This wasn’t some type of slapstick offensive act…it was art…it was fashion…it was tastefully and respectfully done…Obivously they wanted to SHOW how GORGEOUS darker skinned races are, since the majority of them were made to be women of darker ethinic roots~ Get a better hobby!

I don’t find this offensive because I understand the premise behind what Tyra was trying to do. However, that s#!t in Vogue was OUTRIGHT OFFENSIVE! Those were white chicks in “black face” which is not only offensive but unnecessary when there is plenty of beautiful black models that could have done the job…and BETTER! I think this was a tribute to the diverse brand of cultures in Hawaii and nothing more, nothing less.

you should see the episode in question..they were rep. different races…and they were eloquently dressed and not in a negative light. there was no big lips and neg gestures…so i am asking all my black bro n sistahs to watch the episode and decide for yourself. i wasnt offended in any way..and i would like to think that tyra would sell out for fashion.

Damn it’s not like this is the first time that the show has done this. S**t nowadays everything is considered blackface, boy I hate to see what the press and “hello beautiful” gonna say about the little kids on Halloween!

I have no issue with it. I can see if these women were being caricatures of black women and other ethnic minorities and mocking them, but that wasn’t the case, it was respectably done(yes, I’m a man who watches the show). Sorry, but it takes a bit more than a non-white putting on dark makeup to make it an outrage. This is much ado about nothing.

Save your outrage for something that makes sense.

THIS IS WHY I DO NOT WATCH TYRA BANKS

OR SUPPORT ANY OF HER SHOWS…

I REALLY DONT GIVE 2 FUKKS IF ITS ART OR WAS DONE TASTEFULLY

THE POINT IS TYRA IS A BLACK WOMAN AND SHE LET SOMETHING THATS WAS MEANT AS A RACIST GESTURE(BLACKFACE) NO MATTER HOW YOU PUT IT…

BLACKFACE NEVER MEANT ANYTHING TO BE GOOD
    BLACKFACE OR N.I.G.G.E.R

SOME PEOPLE THINK THAT THAT WORD NIG WAS COOL CUZ ONLY “WE” BLACK PEOPLE WERE USING THE TERM BUT SINCE ITS INCEPTION THE WORD “IS” AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN MEANT AS DEROGATORY

SO I CAN NEVER SUPPORT TYRA OR ANY OF HER SHOWS CUZ IN MY OPINION SHE HAS SOLD OUT HER BLACK RACE ALONG TIME AGO

Come on! Black folks always crying foul over sillyness. I didn’t see white folks crying when the Wayans did White Chicks. But let that be in reverse the sky starts to fall. This isn’t black face as we all know it to be. They aren’t portraying a race of people in a negative stereotype.
