Sade’s Official Bio:

Helen Folasade Adu was born in Ibadan, Nigeria. Her father was Nigerian, a university teacher of economics; her mother Anne was an English nurse. The couple met in London while he was studying at the LSE and moved to Nigeria shortly after getting married. When their daughter was born, nobody locally was prepared to call her by her English name, and a shortened version of Folasade stuck. Then, when she was four, her parents separated, and her mother brought Sade and her elder brother Banji back to England, where they initially lived with their grandparents just outside Colchester, Essex.


Soldier of Love is only the sixth studio album the band Sade have released during their 25 year career, and the first since Lover’s Rock in 2000. For Sade herself, as the lynchpin of the group’s songwriting effort, it’s a simple matter of integrity and authenticity. “I only make records when I feel I have something to say. I’m not interested in releasing music just for the sake of selling something. Sade is not a brand.”

    i have three sons, and two of them were conceaved to sade toons… when we would go out and a song by her would play, we would give eachother that look… you know that look. we would call each other at work if it was on the radio. and i knew i was getting some that night. shes passed away now. its been seven years. im sure if she heard this cd. we would more than likely have another child…

    Me my crew were listining to Sade back in HS when other cats were only listening to Eric B., LL, etc. The ladies thought we were sophisticated for listening to “jazz” music. Sade is truly my most favorite artist. My wife understands that if Sade would have me, she would be outta luck. She accepts that. She thought I was crazy until we went to a Sade concert during her Lover’s Rock tour. We actually saw the show twice. The first time the seats weren’t very good so we saw the whole show from the side. I paid $200 per seat to get 3rd row center seats a couple of days later. My wife has been a fan ever since. Sade is magical. Her band is magical also. If you really want to give away the whole catalog you may want to include the two Sweetback discs also. For those that don’t know, Sweetback is the name Sade’s band goes by when they release albums without her fronting the group. There albums are great and always have great guest singers. Check out Softly, Softly by Sweetback and hear Maxwell do his thing. I am a true fan and if she goes on tour, eventhough I have been laid off, I will find a way to get the money for me and my wife to see her in concert again.
