I grew up in a black family in a white neighborhood and even though I know who my mother and father are as long as my skin is brown and I continue to live in America, I will be identified as BLACK. I know both sides of my heritage and do not allow others (whites) to blind me to the exploitation, confusion or discrimination they inflict upon me. I am that “light skinned girl with the hair” for a lot of black people… so what? In the same way I’m that “exotic” to whites. Interesting how most of the people had something to say about the black experience but not about what they have had to suffer at the ignorance of whites. If you are confused about who you are, that being bi-racial, explore your heritage. Living in America, understand we will always have racism and you will always be considered BLACK. Get over it and live…

Some people seriously need to educate themselves , it was not the ” One
Drop Rule ” that determined whether you were a slave or not it was the
maternal line, if the mother was a slave so was the child whether she
was white skinned or black skinned , if the mother was free and the
father was a slave the child was automatically deemed FREEEEEEE . The ”
One Drop Rule “ wasn’t even legally enforced until several decades after slavery had became abolished . There were actually ” Mulatto
communities, mulatto only schools and churches, even on the census it was
a separate racial category it was white , Mu ( MU = Mulatto ) and
Negro . The ” One drop rule ” started to be legally enforced in 1910
and by 1930 it was officially enforced Nation wide . The ” One Drop
Rule ” was legally enforced because of the Mulattoes that could pass for
white , the whites didn’t want to take any chances of a white looking
mulatto passing for white and contaminating their so-called pure
superior white Bloodline , So they threw all the mulattoes into the
Black category because in their minds it didn’t matter if the Blacks
bloodline was deluded because to them introducing superior white blood
could only improve Black people’s intellectual inferiority, but never
to the point of being equal to white .

To the person that said ” Why isn’t the name of the video Biracial…
not white damn it “ my comment to that is : Well, Duhhhh, that’s because
Biracial people that are mixed with white and Black or white and
something else don’t have other people saying ” white mixed with anything
is white and therefore you need to call yourself white and totally ignore
the other half “ it’s always the other way around , you’re always
told… ( especially when the mixture is White and Black ) ) ” No,
you need to call or identify yourself with Black and Black only” that’s
whats always shoved down our throats, it’s like because we have Black
in us it cancels out the other half genetically and culturally or
something. So there is no need to make a video saying , ” Biracial…
Not White Damn it ” cause most Biracial’s mixed with White and Black
aren’t having that problem, however, if we were then I think there would
be a video saying ” Biracial .. Not White Damn it . I would definitely
not want to have ” No . you’re white ” shoved down my throat anymore
then I want someone to shove ” No. you’re Black “ down my throat .

I would rather have someone NOT accept me at all than to only accept
me half way . Accept me for all of who and what I am or don’t accept me
AT ALLLL , dont talk to me, don’t acknowledge me , and I will do the
same. Someone who tries to drop the ” One Drop Rule ‘ on me I totally
act like their not even there, I look right through them, they don’t
exist to me . Unfortunately it has mostly been Black people that have
tried to enforce this on me , so if their acceptance of me is determined
on whether I comply to this racist ” One Drop Rule ” then I don’t need
their acceptance or want their acceptance, keep it moving, I wont lose
sleep over black or white people not accepting me , I have more self
esteem than that, my worth as a person is not dependent on other peoples
acceptance of me .

who cares where WHITE people think you fit in ????? In fact who cares where Black people think you fit in too ??? I think it is wonderful for people embrace every part of their heritage and not be labeled by a really old system that only recognized black or white due to racism. If your sister is of black ancestry only, then she is black, does not matter what she looks like. Your ethnicity refers to the sum of all your parts, so if you are two races you are biracial, if your are more than one race you are multi racial. I know this is a hard concept for Americans to grasp, but coming from another culture I can tell you that not everyone sees people as either Black or White, some cultures recognize all the other mixtures in between. I don’t understand why Black Americans are so against mixed people embracing other parts of their culture, to me it is Black Americans who make a bigger deal of whether someone is classified as Black or White. It seems as though Black Americans are resistant to everything White Americans inject in Black cutlure except labeling. It’s not society that labels people, but people allow themselves to be labeled.

Disclaimer : This is a RANT I repeat, this is a RANT if you don’t want to read a rant or are just to lazy in general to read something that’s a bit lengthy then SKIP THIS, that being said .

No . Biracial is NOT NOT and I repeat NOT pertaining to indirect
admixture, so ALL Black people CAN NOT claim Biracial and have it be
taken seriously SORRY . Biracial is pertaining to being a product of 2
different raced parents or being the product of two 50/50 Biracial
people any other mixtures say like for eg. a 75/25 split or 80/20 %
or a 88/12 % split that would be having mixed ancestry YES because
you’re not 100% pure anymore however, it’s not anywhere close to a 50/50
split and there is STILL an overwhelming majority of one than there is
of the other, it’s NOT the same as Biracial no matter how much you want
to try and make it so IT’S NOTTTT the same everyone one knows that it’s just some
people want to PRETEND there is no difference

You can try and change the most common understanding of which people
the term was actually meant to pertain to all you want, just so you can try
and make the term sound ridiculous and invalidate the Biracial people
that actually DO identify as Biracial because of direct parentage , but you can not change what most
people are going to have in mind when you refer to someone as being
Biracial and that’s NOT a person that’s indirectly mixed seven
generation back and no other mixture was involved since SORRYYY LOL

The people that don’t think the term Biracial is real or that the term
can apply to not ONLY people that are 50/50 or people who have come
from parents that are 50/50 are saying that only because they themselves,
just don’t like it when people identify as Biracial when they’re half black instead of ONLY Black exclusively like they really want them to . So
they try and make the term sound ridiculous and say it can technically
apply it to everyone . Biracial doesn’t have to pertain to a specific
color you can look whatever color and still be Biracial, just like you
can look whatever color and be called a so-called Black person .
Biracial is having 2 equal parts from 2 different races combined into
one person 50/50 or damn well close to it.

Just because you have some mixed ancestry from seven generations down
the line because of Slavery and the Slave Master raping an ancestor and
you just so happened to come out light skinned all the sudden DOES NOT MAKE YOU
BIRACIAL . To me, that is IMO what a light skinned black person is, the
mixture wasn’t direct it’s a left over from a disgraceful rape/rapes 150 years ago . Why the
hell would you even want to mention it or do an admixture test to know
the percentage, WHY ? LOL

When Black people start bringing up how there ” Biracial too “ because of slavery as a so-called legitimate argument to a Biracial person that actually identifies as Biracial instead of exclusively Black… they sound as if their really trying to suggest ” well if we can’t say we’re Biracial then you shouldn’t be able to either because the average Black person in America has a little bit of slave rape Blood in them and that’s not truly acknowledged and we reallly wish it was so we can be looked at as mixed and not all the way Black too , If we as Black people ( who are of overwhelmingly African descent ) cant identify as biracial and have it be taken seriously then neither should first generational Biracial black/White people cause that’s just not fair ” WTF seriously ?????

biracial people that are mixed with black and white identify as Biracial
we aren’t trying to claim some distant Slave Master rape blood we
aren’t even claiming that at all WHY ? because it came from a RAPE ,
it’s a DISGRACE and I don’t wish to even know the percentage of Slave
Master Rape Blood running through my veins . That rapist raped my ancestor then wouldn’t of claimed me so why would I
claim him he doesn’t deserve the acknowledgment, my mother however, Does
deserve the acknowledgement and I’m not doing that when I identify as
Black and only black nor am I acknowledging my black father if i were to
acknowledge the white and nothing else, identifying as biracial works
for me I could give a crap if my identity choice works for someone else

And also,SOME black people also may want to bring up the ” one drop rule “ as to why
Biracial’s should Identify as Black and only black and then they say ” Don’t blame Black people cause Black people weren’t the ones that
created it “ and I say You’re RIGHT, Black people didn’t create it, so
why are YOU a Black person yourself going along with it as if you are
still a slave and have no choice in what or how to think ?

Just because the slave master created it doesn’t mean you have to accept
it now does it ? The slave master also said Black people were 3/5 of a
human being, do you accept that and only call or consider yourself 3/5
human ? I didn’t think so. The white slave master also said that black
people were only suited to be slaves to white people… but I don’t see
black people running and begging to be white peoples slaves or to have
slavery reestablished .

Black people could reject the ” one drop rule “ if they wanted to.
Though SOME do reject it , MOST do not , most go right along with it
not because they have no choice but because they want to go along with
it for their OWN selfish agenda ( It’s no longer a LAW anymore read up
Loving V’s Virginia 1967.) The one Drop Rule is a benefit to Black
people and MOST that I’ve known or seen want to hold it over biracial
people head not because they just want to love and accept them as their
own but because they have in Investment in making sure that the ” One
Drop Rule “ continues being enforced, they do it for selfish reasons
and one of them being because they don’t want to lose those numbers and
the other reason is because they themselves don’t want to be black so
they want to make anyone with a touch of Black feel like they have no
other option besides black because they themselves have no other option
besides Black . These certain types of Black people are going through an
Inferiority Complex and want any one with any known Black ancestry to
be in the same boat of oppression as they feel they themselves are in
..

I am half-white(greek and english).Half black and amer-indian.I identify as a black american.The music the clubs the history.I was raised in South Central, Los Angeles.Its all about location, location, location.If i was a mixed kid raised by the white side of my family and in a white community i would probably say Dude! Wheres my car?lolI find bi-racial individuals who embrace only their white side annoying and cant stand to be around them. The sista who had that bi-racial child talking about she was ashamed because her mom was black i felt the same way but oppisite.My mom is white.I dont feel that way anymore.Im grown now.

First, for those offended by the title, I believe this is just one part of a larger series. There is indeed another doc in this series called “Bi-racial Not White Damn it.”

Second, most of the comments against a “multiracial” or non-Black identity are unfortunately par for the course. More than anything, these comments come off as rather desperate/pathetic: “But they have to be Black because of this,” “But they have to be Black because of that.” Seriously, if someone doesn’t want to identify as Black, what do you care? This is particularly true if you yourself claim to be proud to be Black. Are you really proud/comfortable being Black?

Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter, as time keeps moving forward the arguments against a “multiracial” or non-Black identity will only fall flatter and flatter. I mean, for anyone to be parroting the “one drop” line today is downright laughable. Do you realize how many non-Black Americans have that magic “one drop”?

I agree with the last kid on the video. “If someone doesn’t like who you are, find somebody that does”! Love who you are no matter what race you are. I am always mistaken as a black woman yet I am puerto rican. Do I trip? No not at all. I smile and keep it moving. When in the workplace they first see you as black but when I speak they know the difference. Instead of them schooling me, I school them.

THis touched my heart I am a mix of black white indian chinese, american indian and jewish, but haven’t fit in none of those races only the blacks accept me but i have to defend my colors sometimes got beat up as a child by whites and blacks just of who I am, Thanks for making this doc**antary

Well I spoke on this before and I am going to again. For all of you who keep saying that if you have any Black blood that it makes you Black, I totally disagree. I am Hispanic male with a daughter who is Half Black. No one is going to tell me or my daughter what she is. I and her mother have told her what she is. She is Hispanic and Black. Not just one. For her to just claim one and not the other is like denying one of us when it took both of us to make her. I have raised my daughter not to let anyone, including Society, to dictate to her who she is. I am just as proud of being Hispanic as any of you who are proud of being Black. So would I be wrong if I wanted my daughter to be just “labeled” as Hispanic. Some would say yes, some would say no. I say this because many of you on here, would have no problem if my daughter would say she is Black regardless of how it made me feel as her father just to suit what you feel. Its not about how any of us feel. Its teaching our kids they are Human Beings first and foremost and also teaching them to embrace ALL of who they are and to be the one who identifies who they are. And for those of you who did not know, on the 2000 census there is now a category for biracial and multiracial. I think its a good thing because biracial or multiracial people should not have to pick one side or the other or any of how many sides they have. I know i have taught my daughter to love and embrace both races she comes from and to love and appreciate them for both are who she is. Not just one or the other.

Interesting that the title is not “Bi-racial Not White Dammit”. I do realize the dilemma they face but I’m sorry in this society how in the world would you expect someone to identify you as “bi-racial”? Both of my parents were black and we can’t trace any direct mix but all 6 of us have very different looks and are often mistaken for being “mixed”. My sister has lite brown hair, light skin and green eyes. So, should she be labeled “bi-racial”. I’m sorry that this is the way the world still is and one day, hopefully it won’t matter for ANY of us not just white or so-called “bi-racial” people but it is what it is. Get in where you fit in but when the police identify you as just another n***** you’ll know exactly where white folks consider you to ‘fit in’.

I am guessing that the person who made this doc**entary is so call ‘Biracial’. First if your not considered white, you are black. That’s just how this country is, like the previous messages if you don’t want to be considered black then you can call yourself whatever the hell you want, but no matter what you are ‘black’. Frankly, this is a ridiculous conversation when you really think about it. The mass majority of African Americans in this country ARE bi-racial; simply because of miscegenation that occured during and after slavery. There was sexual (race-mixing) with slaves between whites and Indians. Hell, you have black people in this country who are part Asian.

A RACIST doesn’t care if you are bi-racial or not; if you are NOT classified as white then the game is against you in his eyes, period. Wake of folks there are plenty more important conversations than this that needs to be had.

If you look back at the slave law (which our country was built on) if you have 1% “black blood” in you then you are black. Its funny how today people will change things around to fit them but i am sorry if it came down to it bi-racial or not you will be looked at as black. Now just like in the past some people will be able to “pass” but if you show any signgs of blacknes then you will be called black. Bi-racial is just now being really looked at as a white or black thing that we have a black president and yes people he is BLACK. the question of what race they are is a simple one; they’re all black…historically black has been a term of inclusion, and white, a term of exclusion. It can’t simply be a sight test, cause my daughter, the product of a “black” father and a “bi-racial” mother, would’ve been the lightest person in this film!..and, if you so choose, my ethnicity would be in question, being that my grandfather was italian, a great grandmother native american, and a me being confused…I mean where’s the threshold, as biracial is approaching black? I mean this is a really stupid arguement to have… “the one drop rule” and “race tests” where meant to safeguard against the defilement of the caucasian gene pool…I think the question that the film’s asking is why does it matter so much to us as black people…I don’t know, it just seems to me that when black people engage in discussions about racial purity, we sound like the guys in the white sheets with the blood hounds…

One would say that it doesn’t matter what color you are. This should be true but in America people are classified by their race and color of their skin. Sure we all may have mixed blood and sure there are biracial people but people generally do not see what we have in us they see the outside of us. So if you look white then you are called white and if you look black you are called black. Black folks comes in all different shades, brown skin, dark skin and light skin but but we are view as being black and most of it comes from mixed blood somewhere down the line. There is no such color called biracial. I myself is a lightskinned black male. I get ask asked all the time am I mixed and then again I am called black too. I ask what color is mixed? There is no such color. To the people that view themselves as being biracial and they have the right to choose but we all can call ourselves biracial if we choose to justify it by having mixed blood. What we all have in common and what we all can truly identify ourselves and be absolutely correct is that we all are human beings. We all have that title.

the vast majority of blacks here in america have white in them. like 90% of them. what r people talking about? all the blacks and whites here r mixed. just cause u cant see that doesnt mean its not true. everyday theres an article about some idiots passing judgement based on race. can u imagine how dumb we look from afar? none of us chose our race, and yet we fight over it.
