Name: Kelli Coleman | EVP of Corporate Communication & President GHV of New York

Age: 26

Business mogul, philanthropist, socialite, fashionista, and soon to be mother, Kelli Coleman is at the top of her game, showing a new generation that women can indeed have it all. Kelli currently serves as Vice President of Business Development at GlobalHue, “a full-service marketing communications agency with total market and cultural expertise,” founded by her father Don Coleman. The agency works with top clients, including Jeep, Verizon Wireless, and Walmart. She has recently taken on the job of heading up a related company to GlobalHue, entitled GHV of New York. This new company will work on several different platforms under the GHV umbrella, most immediately, they will launch a unique digital platform that should launch late summer or early fall.

Joining the family business wasn’t an obvious choice. Despite being exposed to the business since birth and working there every summer in some capacity since the age of 10, Kelli initially planned to enroll in law school upon graduation. It wasn’t until her senior year at Spelman after a conversation with her father that she agreed to do a trial run for a year. Five years later–she’s still there and loving it.

Kelli makes time to sit on the founding Board for Bronx Success Academy under the Success Charter Network in New York. She is a proponent of charter education, and works to ensure that young people receive a quality education. She has also helped out with the Howard School of communications board, in which her father serves as a board member.

Her college jobs included fitting room girl at Barneys CO-OP and a position at a tanning salon. Every Vice President has to start somewhere!!

Her accolades include O Magazine 10th Anniversary Issue- 1 of 10 women selected for the historic tenth anniversary issue, 2010 NV Award Honoree- Woman in Business category, Black Enterprise 40 Next 2010 Honoree, Essence 2010 40 Under 40 Honoree, NAACP 2010 40 Under 40 Honoree, and recognized as one of Spelman’s Rising Stars by the New York Alumni Association.

People might be surprised to know that she is a stylist on the side. Okay, not officially, but she loves to help her friends with their wardrobes, serving as a personal fashion consultant to many of them.

She Advises people on “being proactive, always demonstrating your value, and never taking for granted your position.”

What we can expect in the future is for Kelli to pursue her interest in production. She recognizes how marketing, media, and entertainment are all intersecting, and feels she has ideas that can fill a void for relevant content for the multi-cultural youth market. She also plans on creating a foundation in her father’s name as an extension of the already existing Don Coleman Entrepreneurial Scholarship. She looks forward to one-day running this foundation.
