Beverly Bond

All Black Everything

Humanitarian

Look in to the face of Beverly Bond and its clear there’s more than meets the eye.  She’s flat out beautiful and its easy to imagine her early days walking the fashion runways of New York City.  Her cool is effortless and once you hear her spin there’s no questioning her skills as a gifted DJ.  But since 2006 Bond has channeled her passions and her energy in to becoming a crusader for Black girls all over the world as the founder of Black Girls Rock, Inc.

For years Beverly felt strongly that the images of Black women in the mainstream media were negatively affecting young girls, Beverly wanted to take action. Initially, she wanted to design a t-shirt with the affirmation Black Girls Rock and a list of names of all the women of color who did, in fact, rock.  But the list grew too long, so she turned it into a movement.  With celebrity support and her own elbow grease, Black Girls Rock turned into a major program teaching young women self-confidence and promoting healthy self-image.  To compliment the mentorship program, Bond started, the Black Girls Rock Awards which celebrate the contributions of women of color and their vast achievements in all fields.

In November of 2010, the Black Girls Rock Awards aired on BET for the first time to a national audience and rave reviews, garnering Bond an NAACP Image Award nomination.   A true rock star in her own right, Beverly Bond is a walking example of her mantra–Black Girls Rock!
