While growing up in Montgomery, Alabama, Octavia Spencer never revealed to anyone that she harbored a love affair for acting and hoped to one-day work in the film industry.

In 1995, the inevitable happened when director Joel Schumacher gave her a small part opposite Sandra Bullock in the smash hit, “A Time to Kill.” From there, Spencer teamed up with Bullock again for the 1997 Sundance Film Festival entry “Making Sandwiches,” and her career went on a non stop ascension to the stars.

Spencer appeared in various TV shows and movies but it wasn’t until 2011’s “The Help,” when people took notice of her superior acting skills. In February 2012, Spencer’s hard work paid off when she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Minny Jackson in “The Help.” She is one of nine women in history to win the Critic’s Choice Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA, and Oscar in the same year.
