Those are legitimate reasons, but they are both worst case scenarios. Usually we still love you, but you've been pushing us away lately. We really might need time to get our feelings together and decide if we want to muscle through whatever it is that bothers us about you, or what you may have done. Another problem may be we need a minute to decide if we want to take that next step into whatever the next stage is. The relationship may be moving too fast for us and we might want to slow it down a little, so a break is necessary. Am I wrong?
