Remember when I said that I get paid to play video games? I wasn’t bullshittin’…. From E3 to beating EA Sports developers, the competitive nature of video games is as addicting as Cassie is to Ryan Leslie. But through it all, no one quite got a hold of my joystick like this young lady from the Chi.

Now, I have had my fair share of crushes, but this one was unlikely. Meeting through a mutual friend, this breath of fresh air stumbled onto the scene and into my living room from pure proof. You see, I didn’t like this young lady at first and anyone who knows can understand the suspicion that would come with meeting someone who talked a good game – and actually proved it – for the first time.

As she talked, her partly Southern twang eased my sensibilities and calmed my soul. “You never thought I was going to come?” she inquired. I said, “Yes.” We laughed as if we knew each other for years and proceeded to feel one another out. Her deep brownish eyes looked like big saucers as they glanced around my new apartment. “You have a lot of video games, Kevin,” she said. “Are you any good?“ Funny, I thought. “I get paid to play them,” I bragged. “Doesn’t mean that you’re good,” she retorted.

Taken aback, a sly smile crosses our faces and I knew in the back of my mind that she wasn’t joking that much. But before I could put her to the test, I was called away on business and had to go into the plantation. “Massa’s callin’,” I say. She stayed at the place while I did my thing and by the time I came back, shawty had unlocked mostly all of the characters and stages for Soul Calibur IV.

Around the office, Soul Calibur IV is often discussed with a few unknowns and superstars claiming they hold the crown. But yours truly is a professional adapter, and anytime those bums want to lose some pride (and/or money), Playstation 3′s online services are free and can be used at any point of the day. So, when homegirl showed me what she did, I non-sexist-ly wanted to put her skills to the test.

Boy, she beat my ass like I stole something. Of all people, it would have been her. It made sense the battle that I put her through is normally not enough for challengers looking to play this game we call life and love, but on Soul Calibur IV, she dictated the tempo at which she would claim victory.

I also learned from Soul Calibur IV that I don’t know shiite about the power of love. As she racked up an impressive 10-game winning streak, she kept saying, “It’s not that hard, just relax…” Now, for anyone that knows me, I’m not a rah-rah type of cat. But it’s been brought to my attention that I have a quiet intensity that is very noticeable.

In any game where combatants are vying for a prize, the aggressor fights for victory. In love, I felt there always had to be an outcome of some sort. That the word used in conversation was law. But you cannot control matters of the heart like you can on a video game, and you aren’t blessed with too many 1-UP’s to keep you on this Earth forever. So, while I eventually adapted and stopped her streak, I learned that you can never underestimate your opponent in love or on the battlefield and, when things get too testy, it’s always better to hit pause than eject the game and sell it to GameStop.

Ladies… can we ever just stop playing games and keep it upfront? Do we even want it to stop? Speak on it!

Men will stop playing games when 3 things happen in their lives. 1) When they realize that life is just really too damn short, and they’ve let a few good women get away, the games should stop… 2) When they meet a woman that can see through the masks they wear and really want to help them grow (in all aspects of the word), the games also stop…3) When they’re 30+ and realize that they’ve had success in every area of their life, except for love and they realize that the reason for that is the result of playing games, the games aka bulls**t stops…

and your quiet intensity is much louder than any words you can speak out of your mouth…

I think everyone reaches a point in their lives where its time to hang up the games. Women sometimes reach this point long before men…..I heard a quote before that says “the best relationships happen when you don’t ignore the waring signs in the beginning. Your analogy at the end of your blog summed that up. If he or she is playing games in the beginning, walk away. Life is too short to be wasting time on someone who clearly is all about games……

It’s true there is always a kid in us no matter what video, board or card games we may play. Never be ashamed to unleash the kid in yourself because one day you won’t have memories or experience of games you played or attended. Always be yourself in other words and if the other person can’t cope or understand your ways, Hey Move On!

No that’s the whole thing boys like playing game because us lady and women allow them to play the types of games . If you let them know up front what you want they will not even give you the time of day . But if you are playing the same type of game the it all good . Just know who you are playing with when you play the game. Because you will get caught up in the game . But if we stop the game the what will be the next step to take .

Everything up here is telling the truth that women mature faster than men. I would like the game to stop being played because i want a man that does not play any games, I want a real good man.

well for me its all good for a man to play video games, that brings out the child in them, but when its time to put the game a way ,its no time to be a child, be an adult about it. The only time when I have a problem with playing video games is trying to get them to get off, after being on it more than two hours.”talking about their eye’s hurt” dah, got glasses!!

I often wonder if the games can stop myself. I even wonder at what age do people (men/women) stop with the games. How hard is it to let someone know when you are feeling them and when you are not? I thought that if I dated someone older than me that the games would end. I guess nothing is fair in love and war. Or he will never be ready to really invest himself. Whatever the case may be…………….be careful whatever you do it will come back to bite you later.

I’LL PLAY VIDEO GAMES ALL DAY WIF MY MAN, WELL IF I HAD ONE.. I FIND THAT TIME BETWEEN THE OPPOSITE SEX A BREAK FROM THE RITUALISTIC SIDE OF DATTING. PEOPLE SHOULD TRY TO BREAK AWAY FROM WHAT EVERYONE ELSE DOES IN THE DATTING WORLD AND JUST SIT BACK AND HAVE FUN MAY IT BE PLAYING A VIDEO GAME ON OR OFF LINE. COOKING TOGETHER ETC.. I FIND MOMENTS LIKE THAT WILL DEFINE IF THEY ARE THE ONE. BUT THATS JUST ME….

You compare very promising beautiful black women to games. Maybe you need to grow up just like my nephews who grew out of their games. No time for games, life is too short. “Life is not a game but to explain to you maybe more like a deck of cards from God and you must play with the hand that is dealt to you”…I hope that makes sense to you only because you are into games. “LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH”
