The Lewinsky Scandal
Former President Bill Clinton’s sexual affair, outside of his marriage during the periods of 1995- 1997, ultimately resulted in him being brought up on impeachment charges including perjury and obstruction of justice. Clinton’s mistress was Monica Lewinsky, a 22-year-old intern at the White House during his stint in office. According to Monica, he was her “sexual soul mate,” and had encounters on nine occasions. Clinton denied the accusations with the famous claim “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.” Evidence, including his semen found on Lewinsky’s dress, was so strong that Clinton was forced to backtrack his statements. He was acquitted of all charges.
