Piss poor parents better beware. Prosecutor Kym Worthy of Detroit has a new proposal she is putting to gether which will attempt to make parents be more accountable for their children’s behavior as well as make them have more interest in their child’s education.  In this proposal parents would be jailed for up to three days for repeatedly missing scheduled parent-teacher conferences. The proposal is in response to 12 year old Demarco Harris shooting and killing a woman during a robbery in Detroit. When the police knocked on Harris’s parent’s door at 2 a.m., they had no idea where their 12 year old son was.

5 Ways To Keep Your Kid Safe Online

Worthy hopes that this stiff repercussion will force parents to be more involved in their children’s lives. I applaud this proposal. It is deeper than parent teacher conferences. It is the message parents send their kids when they allow them to run the streets and do not enforce any rules or accountability on their children. It is the message of disinterest they send their kids when they never show their face at any parent-teacher conference. They send the message to their children that they can do whatever they want and ultimately that they do not care.

I hope that this proposal passes and is implemented in all states because for some parents, the threat of them being arrested is the only thing that will make them want to do the right thing.  The next proposal should be to jail parents whose children do not attend school and miss several days in one school year.

There are too many children who do not have anyone to answer to. They do not feel any fear of punishment from their actions from anyone, including their parents. This could be the tool necessary to promote parents to be more active in their child’s life. Even if they do not necessarily want to, feel like it, or have any interest at all. After all, one of a parent’s main goals should be to mold their children into a functional, responsible adult.

Worthy is still working on the details, but once her proposal is finished, she hopes to present it to county commissioners in August and persuade them to approve an ordinance. After that, she states that she may take it to state legislators in Lansing. Harris, who is now 13 was sentenced to a high security juvenile facility. Worthy states that she is trying to prevent their being more children who in Harris’ situation in the future.

Praise the Lord. Hallelujah and Thank You Jesus. Finally! Someone with some common sense to do what should have been done a long time ago. Maybe once again our schools will become places where teachers can teach, students can learn, and not have to be in fear of their lives. It’s about time someone recognizes that the only thing some people fear is the law. Otherwise, they don’t care and they’ve taught their children not to care also. This is awesome and wonderful news and anyone who doesn’t think so is probably the parent of such type of kids and just don’t want to take responsibility. I hope it gets passed all over the country. Thank you thank you thank you Jesus!!!!!

If the government didn’t take away the right to whoop these bad kids this probably wouldn’t have happened .These kids now have no fear because instead of an a$$ whooping they got time out(whatever)now they want to complain that kids have bahavoural problems or rob, kill and do other criminalistic activities.Back in the day we didn’t do or even think about doing half the crap these kids are doing you know why because we knew we would get our butts tore up.My mom never had to have a teacher parent conference you know why because I was a good kid yes I had problems not saying I’m perfect but I knew how to act in school and in public. When I didn’t act right I got spanked not to the point of abuse but to the point of I knew I better not do it again.Thats what these kids need Discipline.Until that happens they will continue to run wild and commit various acts of crime because they grow up thinking the are untouchable and that is one of the main reasons our children are dieing so young or are in jail at a early age(some are in there for life at 17 thats a shame). just my opinion you don’t have to agree with it just putting it out there.

Like I said on newsone—this is a horrible Idea. Thank you yeahshesaidit for spinning a completely fabricated view on this.

I would bet money that just because a parent misses parent teacher conferences, does NOT mean they dont care about their child’s education. Smh..BOTH of my parents STRESSED education, and they BOTH worked—they didnt have time to go to some stupid parent teacher conference where you wait over and hr to see the teacher to have a 10 minute meeting to tell you what the parent already knows.

Heres a thought—why would ‘good parents’ need a conference if their involved in their child’s life? Wouldnt they already KNOW their progress? Smh leave it to the govt to try to regulate how parents should raise their children…This is a horrible HORRIBLE idea.

Well first before she gets anything like this under control she needs to get her school board members under control by electing a school president that isn’t touching himself and can actually read and write a complete sentence. I feel that is a start because Detroit let their own kids down……but at the same time I do find this a good thing because some parents shouldn’t even be parents….so yes once they get a grip of their own issues with the DPS then work on the parents.

Hmmm…I dont think locking the parents up would solve this problem…though I do agree that something needs to be done about it at a legislative level. Missing parent teacher conferences repeatedly should be reason enough to establish a review board in each school…after 3 missed meetings, Parents should be obligated to show up to explain themselves and account for their child’s poor attendance or performance at the school Review Board. If you cant provide a reasonable explanantion that can be proven, such as work obligations or sickness, then they should be advised that they must work with the school to help improve their child’s grades and attendance, participate in making a treatment plan for their child’s individual problems or risk losing custody to another family member who is better able to monitor and direct the child’s educational process. If you cannot account for your child’s whereabouts, educational progress or achievements, then you really shouldnt be in charge of raising that child. Bottom line.

As a teacher I say it is about time. I try to contact many parents about their child and it is horrible at the responses I get. I hear everything from “Well it’s your job you handle it” to “That’s just the way my child is”. The sad part about it is that the child only suffers in the end.

Take a look at my articles on Hub pages . I am Sky9106, it’s not anything different than your everyday brother who have seen enough of sliding taking place. Our children  are on this one way journey to the depths and it seems that the parents are also taking the ride with them hoping that because it is my child , something will simply happen . Noooooooooo. stop that train it’s heading straight to Hell.

I sincerely feel your pain , put everything aside for a minute and ask yourself; Are these parents for real?
