GALLERY: Black Female Oscar Winners & Nominees

2002_halle_berry_oscarWith the Oscar’s taking place this Sunday, and “Precious” receiving 6 nominations, we take a look back at black female Oscar winners and nominees in Academy history.

At the dawn of the 21st century in 2001, Halle Berry received an Academy Award for Best Actress in “Monster’s Ball.” She was the first Black woman to win the award as Best Actress since the Academy of Motion Pictures had started awards presentation in 1927. Black women have been woefully absent from the academy class for approximately 82 years.

    Maybe black females should step up their game in the movies. They’re usually not that good. I think Precious is very overrated and neither one of those fat chicks deserve Oscars. Still I think one or both will walk (or waddle) away with one because Oscars are easier to get then they were in the early days. It’s more political now, so Mo’Nique and that other hippo might win…

    LastManStandingTall…ummm you sound REAL bitter and a hater…instead of criticizing maybe you should try to read the book before criticizing the movie…because you sound real ignorant especially calling anyone a hippo is just rude

    To the last man standing, If I was to look up rude in the dictionary, I probably would see your face. That’s the problem with our race now, we are bitter, killing each other, and putting each other down, instead of supprting each other. You should be proud that we have come this far in the Oscars, it’s been a long time coming. I don’t know what you do for a living as far as a job but I hope that you are not judged based on your appearance of that you didn’t get promoted because you are a black man, c**ky or to tall whatever the profile. And you being a black man probably see the hardships placed on you. Stop judging people based on their outter appearance and see them for their heart. Yes you have a right to your opinion. But you have no right to be rude.
