Grew up in South Central LA around Latin women. However, all Latin women are not created equal. A Chicana is not a Boriqua. Each woman brings a bit of her culture with her. One is mariachis and the other is congos. There are so many different Latinas as there are so many shades of Black. That is a good thing. I love afro-latin women and don’t hesitate to date them. Each person is responsible for their own happiness, not insuring the happiness of other. Date who you want. Date who wants to date you. I choose to embrace it all versus segregate myself from it all.
At the end of the day each woman, regardless of race, wants to be treated with respect, acknowledged for all that she brings to the relationship, supported, made to feel secure, and desired by her man.

Basically, if you black men have only dealt with pessimistic black women then of course you will only have degrading, demeaning, mortifying, debasing comments/ outlooks on them. And being that you have been with a significant amount of bad apples (black women in your cases) you then generalize the whole race of women because of your poor choices/decisions! Like the saying goes “don’t trust a big butt and a smile” (this is where a lot of you brothers go wrong at, think about it)! [While you deliberate on that I will break it down below for you]

Basically if you seen two black women and one was very shapely/very attractive with a 36D (breasts)-24(waist)-40(ass/hips) measurements and she is bad, raw whatever. However, her attitude is jacked up and she has no goals in life and wants “hair do” and “outfit” money every payday(but you do not know this yet ). But, then the other woman that isn’t shapely, she’s semi attractive (no Beyonce) has a flat chest flat ass/no hips, but she has a great attitude and she is perusing her education. But you do not/will never know that because you want “Ms. Damn that chick is fine” over there. So tell me black men, do you give yourself a chance to find positive black women? You know the ones with the same “qualities” that you feel are in the non black women. And let’s not go there on looks, because a lot of you black men do not choose the cream of the crop(non black women)! And tell me why is it ok to date a semi attractive unshapely non black women rather than black women with the same positive attitude with the same figure(body)? Do that make sense? Oh…no? Well it didn‘t make sense to me either.

I am a young black man trying to get his degree in engineering. Coming from experience, intelligence is not something that black women in general are looking for as far as attractiveness. I love black women but i have a hard time meeting one who is not into a guy who would rather knock her teeth out than get a job. And the ones that are a lot of times will act like they are too good to talk to you, we dont have time to chase someone we dont know who acts like they are too good for you. So we move on to an easier chick and you stay single and mad and wonder why there are no good men out there. Well you shot them all down before you got a chance to see what they were really about. Black women in terms of perception unfortunately deal with both racial stereotyping/degrading and sexism due to ignorance. The racial part goes without saying…and as race relations get better it’ll improve. The sexism part also plays a huge role.

There are many things I can go on about as it relates to hair, sex, etc., but as it relates to this point…it tells women that they’re not worth much unless a man wants them or unless they get married. If a woman grows up never meeting the true love of her life…someone that fits her, she’s dismissed as lonely, bitter, etc. Now granted some women do have personality flaws..but that goes for all women and men. I believe these things are unfortunately true for too many black women. I also see no desire in black women as a whole to dispel these stereotypes. I am hispanic and I can’t justify what your co workers do or say by any means. I was raised in a Christian household and was taught that above all else, a persons character is of importance. But by saying that these groups of women speak a certain way is pretty much the same as some of these comments here saying that black women are a certain way.To be honest, I try not to get with anyone that is disrespectful towards any person because if by any chance I rub them the wrong way they will call me outside my name just as easily. First, thanks for reading my post. The purpose of this place is for people to express opposing views. As far as black men going to other races because of sistas attitudes, that is indeed my opinion. I’m sure there are other reasons, but when you ask brothas who date outside their race why they do it, this is a primary response. Either they are all liars, or you are wrong.

Stereotypes go both ways, and we brothas definitely have ours. Again, stereotypes don’t apply to every entire member of a group, but still way too damn many of us. I know more brothas who went to jail than college. Does that make all of us criminals ? Of course not, but way too damn many of us are. We all have these images of our race to combat, and the only way to do this is to be positive images, productive members of society, to counter the stereotypes about us, not complain they exist.

Not necessarily. To me, stereotypes are things attributed to a group of people, based on a collage of personal experiences. It doesn’t mean that everyone in that group fits the stereotype. But enough of them do to perpetuate it among the majority. Example: Asians can’t drive. In my personal experience, I have been cut off in traffic disproportionally by asian people than any other group. It doesn’t mean “All” asians can’t drive. But in my personal experience, they are a group that has less driving skill than others (Ain’t no asian race car drivers either LOL)

When a man has become verbally castrated and called a dawg he begins to think about and explore alternatives. He begins to think if the women within my own racial group think of me in such terms should I continue to be thought of in this way? Are their other human beings that will think of me differently? That being said it does open the doors to interracial relationships. In every war you have a destroyed target and you also have collateral damage to unintended targets. The same is true in the war of words. The behaviors of some men cannot be defended in any way. However I am concerned about those men who are caught up having to deal with women that have unfortunately been injured. Being an African-American male myself there is an assumption that the African-American woman is the primary, essential and perfect fit for the black man. If this is true then I must therefore invoke they following philosophical questions.

1. Can this assumption clearly be endorsed when the current African-American divorce rate is nearly 60%?
2. From 1900 to 1940 the African-American woman was the most married woman in America statistically. Her numbers in marriage even exceeded that of
white women. What happened? Why such a reversal to the current statistics above?
3. What happened to the love songs? A transition from I love you, to Booty call.
4. What happened to the black man’s image as husband, provider and father?
5. Stability and commitment as opposed to cheating, lying and creepin.

A vast number of black women run across acceptable males everyday. For whatever reason they turned them down. He is either too short, too light, too dark doesn’t make enough money to meet my personal needs etc. I hear it all. The continued pursuit of romantic and physical perfection that leads continuously to loneliness, poor choices and devastation. Meanwhile the world has changed. There is no longer the assumption that your perfect mate has to be can be or should be within one’s own racial group. There’s plenty of evidence of that given the overwhelming majority of marriages that are in divorce court today and the couples share everything in common including race. I was therefore encourage black women to seek out of good quality men for husbands irrespective of their skin color. I would also encourage Black Men to do the same. Lastly we are all human beings seeking an opportunity for a permanent relationship that is meaningful. We are not experiments to be played with to fulfill exotic sexual fantasies.

ReginaldQ, Maybe the problem it’s not because we’re not the perfect fit but that this country itself that we’ve come to develop ourselves in doesn’t allow us to be the best we can be together because of the things it teaches us. Have you ever traveled to other countries where for example it’s only black or white, like some parts in Africa, Spain, or even in the Caribbean? we rarely ever hear the word of divorce over there.

Sir, I have traveled to West African countries. Marriages there are arranged and of course you are never allowed to marry outside of your own racial group or tribe. To say that everyone is happy within those are arranged marriages with would of course be absurd. There would be however cultural standards in place whereby if the marriage has difficulties cultural systems demand that the marriage be maintained despite internal difficulties. I therefore believe that our problems are internal and that we need to fix them. In light of the harshness of racial segregation keep in mind my earlier statement that the African-American woman was the most married woman in the United States between the years 1900 to 1940. Obviously there was a decision of internal consciousness within our community to develop our families within those years. My question is what has happened. The numbers of African-Americans maintaining steady marital commitments began to decline from the 1970′s to the shocking numbers we have today. There is no question that African-Americans have continued to be victimize in racial and sexual politics. It was true then and it continues to be true now. We have no excuse, however, in light of these facts to not take appropriate political and social actions to address these matters. I have tremendous respect for my parents and grandparents. It was their generation that believed in marriage and developed a means to cultivate families despite the horrors of institutionalized racism. My generation and subsequent generations in my opinion have quite frankly dropped the ball. With all that Martin Luther King has done for us we have fumbled the ball on the 1 foot line at fourth and goal.

And no…the concept of a stereotype does not make sense. Especially as it relates to race relations…stereotypes can arise from overall racial bias. We are human beings….not robots. A stereotype judges an entire group of people SIMPLY based on the color of their skin or where they just so happened to be born. 1. The overall divorce rate is 50%…marriage rates overall are on the decline..and many marriage surveys show unhappy marriages. A low divorce rate does not equal happinness….if you want to talk about helping, I think it’d be much more beneficial for people to make the right decisions to get into marriage..not jump into it to prove a social point

2. You can’t seriously be comparing these times to the segregation, lack of rights, etc. of the early 1900s. Dude…interracial marriage was once illegal. We’re moving to a point…or at least trying to move to a point, where who you marry should be because of a strong connection and not simply based on skin color

3. Love songs? Lol…once upon a time America blamed rock music for social ills. Now they blame rap. But considering other genre’s like R&B where record sales are high…why are we only defined by a music genre that should be seen mostly as entertainment?

Why should there be a battle to keep black men for black women. Love is Love and I never felt as if we should be limited in preferential decisions when it comes to dating. I say as a black woman who has always dated black men and outside my race find happiness and be content with “SELF” first and don’t entertain what others think. Both black men and women have dated outside their race for years and have found happiness while others limit themselves and are often single or dating the wrong man/woman. I just don’t settle for anything or anyone no matter what race he may be. I have principles, wishes and desires and he fits or understands them then shall it be.

Keeping black men for black women is a “fruitless” battle that needs to cease. This day and time we need to find happiness in whomever God Blesses us with. Stop this notation that whomever dates outside their race is dismissing their own kind. Their is only one kind and that is ‘BEING HUMAN”.

Now first of all Black Americans came from North and West Africa, those areas were also populated with who are now considered Middle Easterns, who brought forth who are now know as Europeans. When Slavery first began, Africa was the first to teach this. The same Africans who tought the slavery are the same Africans who were slaves in the United States. Now if you read a little further in History you’ll see that Black Slavery goes deeper in years that are unrecorded, and that in early America there where Black slaver owners as well and that actually it were those Black Slave owners that never wanted to stop owning their slaves. Why do you think some black people were already rich in early free slave years. There is a man named Benjamin Banneker, look him up. The first African in America, was a pirate married to a Spanish woman named Maria. You talk about interracial dating like it should be prohibited as you’re racist white cousins in America would like, this is a no go, don’t do what they want. They are the true minorities in America, not you and you shouldn’t hate them because that’s just what they want you to do. In fact you should take your anger and release it on Africa, those are the people who sold you and now, do not like you because of what we black people have achieved, how we came together and fought for something. Now days it’s pretty much impossible because of the same ignorance you see on this very page. Think outside the small box, learn a little history and know that there are Black people world wide, and yes, in European countries and have always been there way before America was a whole country. The British army had Black Generals when Gorge Washington was President, common now.

So all this talk about your hate against white people is a lost battle because you forget your history. Africans always say, Black Americans are brain washed and have no history, don’t let this be true. Remember where you came from and stop whipping your children, those are slavery violent scare tactics you’re teaching your child. Don’t do what they want you to do, instead make things better and actually talk with your children, they’re not as dumb as you think. Yelling and violence only will cause them to forget and go back and do the same thing there were doing. At this point you may think I’m not black, just because I don#t agree with you or appear to be ghetto ignorant does not make me anyone else, remember where you came from, and remember those who fought for your freedom.
