I wish Black folks would start getting this straight: The plural form of the word “artist” is “ARTISTS!” With an S on the end!! It gets on my last nerve to see us screw this up time after time after time!! And this goes for ANY noun ending in “ist.” Put an S on the end, people, and start sounding at least somewhat literate! (Stepping off my soapbox now.)

Well that’s what ppl get for tryin to do too much, tryna prove all they talent on this one song. It’s just used as more of a ritualistic act nowadays anyway, sing it like it was written and go on with the game. All these extra runs and stuff got they voice all out of tune and crackin, knowing they aren’t even feeling the words in the song so what’s the big deal. Whoa, i would have to say that the National Anthem gets butchered so much, mostly because of the stress that comes from performing it, the magnitude of the lyrics, and what the whole thing stands for. I think that mainly, it equals to a big ball of nervousness when performing it. And guess what, even with the mistakes made, it still sounded pretty good!

It wasn’t as bad as I thought from the title. You would have thought she’d missed whole verses, just a line or two. She handled it like a pro and still sounded good.

She didn’t sound that good to begin with. The fumble over the words didn’t distract me as much as her sloppy runs and off-key notes did. She did continue like a true professional though. Kudos for that.

She does not have the pipes to improvise the National Anthem. The National Anthem’s range is an octave, so the vocalist must be well trained. This song is not for a singer with a borderline voice!!

If you think that she sounded good? I blame you and those who think like you for the state of music today. That performance stunk to high heaven. Even she admitted it. That explains the success of so many untalented artists in the game today. We as consumers don’t hold these performers to a high enough standard. We give credit for being brave enough to do it. No body should pay good money to hear someone butcher the National Anthem the way this young lady did. Why pay to see or hear someone do what you could’ve done and probably better, at least just as good. This is supposed to be a professional singer which means no mistakes allowed. But why are people concerned about integrity the USA’s NA. So what, she has forgotten the NA for the USA some would say. Do any of you remember the awards show when Keith Sweat went for a high note on that duet he sung… and missed? It was thee embarassing ‘screech’ heard ’round the world, baby! One time, James Brown was BEGGED by David Letterman (and his audience) to sing one of his biggest hits “It’s A Man’s World” and he ad-libbed his way thru it and forgot most of the words to the song! After that most embarrasing fiasco, that’s when “ear pieces” became standard practice (he was the 1st to wear one!) because with so many hits over so many years and singing it so many different ways, artists’ tended to forget the lyrics. I could go on and on about who can sing and who has forgotten the lyrics to many well known songs. Sh!t happens and you just keep it moving because “The Show MUST Go On, No Matter What!” Beyonce and ‘nem can tell you all about that. Remember Beyonce’s famous “fall” down the stairs? You know she LIP SYNC’s don’t you, just so that she NEVER misses a note or forgets the words!

So Keri baby, brush and shrug off the non singing haters and keep doing your thing baby! Your REAL fans got your back!

You all would be SURPRISED in just what it TAKES to record, mix and edit a song before YOU ACTUALLY hear the ‘final’ version! This isn’t the Superbowl and Keri doesn’t have the voice of Jennifer or Whitney. Well, Whitney’s drug use has messed that up, so maybe I should refer to the condition of her voice before Bobby!! LOL!! SxyBlkSugah is on point when speaking about songs before they’ve been mixed down. However, an accurate ear can “see” right through any singer’s vocals no matter how much compreession, reverb or even autotune an engineer applies to those vocals. I doubt it had anything to do with nerves because she’s too experienced for that, so I”m willing to bet that she never thought to “rehearse” the song before she stepped foot on that floor. Maybe she just assumed she new the words.
