i didn’t see a problem either. people forget all that she put her voice and body through. but when God blesses you with talent, it’s not going ANYWHERE until He takes it away. she sounded good to me. And frankly, i’ve seen tons of live shows where a singer stops to take a sip of water. singing dries your throat out, duh!

have you ever been to a concert where while on stage lights on you and everything seen a performer IN THE MIDDLE OF A SONG take that long of a pause to get herself together for that same ending of a song?! no no no no! yes she sounds good but crack has gotten to her so bad that she can’t be the old whitney im not hating on her cuz she do have one or two hits out i can str8 up dig but dam maybe she needs to get bak to vocal calls not knocking her hustle and happy she bak but dont be back to get kicked right out is all im saying

@deevee8 God does give you talent but if you dont use it you lose it, if i dont practice for a week i can see a difference in my playing, one can only imagine taking years off and doing drugs instead of honing your craft. Age has nothing to do with it, look at Sade, she just put out her first album in 10 years and she just showed the world shes still at the top of her game. I bet she didnt spend all her time doing drugs, partying, and reality shows, no she was in the lab with her band making good music.

Been around music all my life and there was nothing wrong with what she done. I will say that she still getting back into performing and her vocals aren’t there yet. She smokes or did smoke so that might have damaged her vocals a bit. But that is a stuff song to hit for anybody and with the lights and her probably sweating she needed that water. You forget in Australia the atmosphere is different from the US. Good performance not great but lets give her a little more time before we give up on her..Peace

Whitney needs to go into vocal therapy like YESTERDAY. i ain’t hatin’, i’m hurtin’. drugs tore her voice up! but if she gets help, and is really serious about getting her voice back, she can come back stronger than ever. Hello I’m an indigenous Australian and I was actually disappointed in the bad reviews about Whitney Houston, she is still and will always be one of my all time favourite singers, I also sing and understand that a singer can have good and bad days. Yes I understand maybe the drugs or years off from singing may of taken strain to her vocal cords, although I feel now days listeners are becoming too critical and forget that this woman was probably one of the few who paved the way for singers like Beyonce, Rihanna, Alisha Keys etc….. as an Australian the bad reviews were probably by audiences that were ticket happy just to say “Look I went to see Whitney”. I seen an interview last year and it was mentioned that this tour was NOT a comeback tour as such but a tour to feel her way back into singing/performing again and I don’t see anything wrong with that. God if we’re gonna be bagging people like her, what hope have today’s singers got ????? “ Where is the love”. I have gone to dozens of concert’s. I always leave early because getting out of the parking lot is a mad house. I was not there but seeing the audience reactions is what I go by. They are standing up and seem to be enjoying it. Concerts are usually 50% show and 50% artist performance. So how was the show? It looked pretty decent from this clip. I don’t think she will ever be the old Whitney, we all know she had some issues. Bobby, will never be the old Bobby. However, If they came to town. I would buy tickets. I think it was kind of cool the way she did it and her band was on point. It was dramatic and dramatic makes for a good concert. Please encourage her, don’t tear her down. Listen I like Whitney’s music just like the next person but the bottom line is once those drugs are there and have been attacking you things are not going to be the same even though we would like them to be. She is simply not hitting the notes and her voice is not as high as before, we all can say it’s age or tiredness but reality is that even though the drugs didn’t take her life……Her voice that amazed everyone and sent chlls down our spines is slowly fading away.

Kind of reminds me when Muhammad Ali made a comeback against Larry Holmes. When he took his robe off, nobody could believe how good he looked, the pounds he lost, and the 6 pack he was sportin’. It even gave Holmes a shock and put a look of fear on his face.

@ Mamajaki, I agree, she needs to get some serious vocal training/coaching if she expects to have even half a chance in the industry now. There are just too many talented singers out now that will outshine her if she doesn’t.

The problem is, for an addict to get help, they have to admit first that they had/have a problem. Until this day, Whitney has never admitted to being a drug addict. If you all remember during Oprah’s interview with her, she only admitted to being a love addict – her addiction was on Bobby. She made the drug use seem like a side issue so in her mind, she’s not an addict who needs help recovering from substance abuse, she just needed to get away from Bobby – as though HE was the cause of everything. She’s taking very little responsibility in all this and still living in denial about just how much damage they had on her vocal cords.

As soon as she steps into reality where the rest of us live and see herself through new eyes, she will continue to have concerts like that. I’m glad those fans woke up and walked out, they are holding her accountable for her “stuff”. If that keeps happening concert after concert, maybe she’ll get a clue and do something about it. If she doesn’t, she’ll be taking her fans love for granted by giving substandard performances and embarassing herself. Come back right Whitney, we love you but want you to love yourself too.

U know…it’s kinda like watching a ghost or a shell of her former self. I remember when she could seriously blow. And whoever said she kinda has the raspiness of Dionne Warwick, yea, I can hear that too.

She has true fans out there that no matter what will stand behind her. We all make mistakes in our lives, I know I did, and to be able to put those mistakes behind you and move on in a positive direction feels good. Now I know why Michael Jackson wouldn’t have a concert in the US, all we would have done was said negative things about him. He’s gone now and everyone wants to say “Oh he was the greatest singer and we miss him” Is that what’s going to happen when Whitney leaves us? This is terrible. I love how you wrote that Whitney made her own bad decisions instead of just blaming Bobby Brown. I read any biographies on Whitney, the sad truth is she was a train wreck waiting to happen, even before Bobby Brown. I miss her voice.

People need to stop making excuses for her. If she is not ready to sing, she should not waste people’s time. Fans work hard and pay good money to watch her, Whitney Houston; not her shadow nor a figment of what she used to be.

I think it is a mark of disrespect and disregard for fans when artist or singers go on stage knowing full well they are not ready to render stellar performance.

The excuses should stop! If she is not fully recovered, then fans need to be told, before hand, that they are going to watch a not-fully-recovered Whitney, and charge people accordingly. I do not think it is fair to expect her fans to bear the full brunt of her recovery.

Any artist worth her salt would hesitate to show a less than stellar aspect of herself, to her fans. on stage.

I have had the pleasure of hearing Whitney lately , and her voice is definitely not the same . It’s like listening to one of those old divas from the day .. pre Patti , etc. But it’s not from age..it’s the drug usage, and I feel sorry for Whitney. Oh man, she was definitely off her game. Right from the start you could hear the strain in her voice. Her sound was breathy and rasphy, she was not holding her notes very long and that full rich sound we’ve come to know and love was …just… gone. She went to get water to compose herself and wet her vocal cords because she knew she was coming to the part in her song where she had to belt it out, and even then it wasnt up to “Whitney Standards.”
Seeing this story unfold on the stage like this is both sad and inspiring. Sad in that we know Whitney’s history with drugs and turmoil and speculate this might be a cause, but also inspiring in that we see an artist and a woman trying to put the broken pieces of her life and career back together as best she knows how… with her music and with her fans.
It’s easy to pint fingers, but Whitney NEEDS her fans now more than ever. She needs her fans to give her back her confidence, and to affirm her. For many of us, our WORK is in a sense, “WHO WE ARE” it’s no different for performers like Whitney. Thank God that our lives are not broadcasted in stage for all to see.

Encouraging Whitney to stay straight and fight her demons is admirable. It’s her fight, she has to want it and must fight for herself and win for herself, if being sober is to mean anything to her. However,if those closest to her have these fears, then that wouldn’t be out of the ordinary, as most addicts relapse at least once on their way to full recovery. Some of the photos in that collection are not good. She looks to be back on crack. Her body and her face look drawn and wasted. If her family and friends are seeing this as well, then it’ may be time for another intervention. It would be up to someone (Cissy?) to talk with Whitney’s doctors and therapists, then allow them to help set it up. I don’t care what her latest release is doing on the charts or whether fans come and go at her concerts, it’s her life that should concern all of us who appreciate her talents, and want the best for her. I don’t think celebrities should be considered ‘role models’ unless they choose to claim that label with justifiable action. Just because they’re following their dreams doesn’t automatically require that they be the beacon of righteousness. People need to stop ‘cracking’ on her so hard. Whitney just might stand to be a testament to what God can do because what was lost can be found and who’s to say she won’t recover her voice. As it is she has to start somewhere and the main thing is to get her confidence back. We all fall, but not all of us can get up and walk the same as before. Everyone knows what she’s been through. Going to her concert should be more of a plug of support than an expectation that she’ll be the same as she was before. Whitney can still sing, now maybe she might have to adjust her style a bit to accomodate change.

Ok 1st let me start out by saying that I sit here speaking as a recovering addict with 12yrs clean and sober. I am also in the industry and I can say without fail that Whitney was on drugs and doing ALOT of things and making ALOT of bad choices WAY BEFORE SHE EVEN KNEW WHAT OR WHO A BOBBY BROWN WAS! PEOPLE STOP BLAMING BOBBY BROWN For Whitney being an addict. Not once has Whitney ADMITTED TO HERSELF THAT SHE IS AN ADDICT. Until she does so and seeks help for herself she will not get back up. She can’t do it for Her child, Mom, the industry, or her fans. She has to want to be Clean and Sober and that means NO DRUGS Or ALCOHOL she has to STOP it all and yes Whitney just like Mariah smokes cigarettes as well, and as a singer she can’t do it and expect to hit any kind of note. She has to admit that she has a problem and that Bobby didn’t do it she did. She has to admit that she is powerless over her addiction and then check herself into treatment. One can always stop but staying stopped is the part that makes people relapse. I do pray for her but I am also one who doesn’t like it that her and others always want to place blame on Bobby and it needs to stop. She should get clean and then do some shows.

I still love Whitney and wish her the best on getting her life back together.
