Of course Sade can sing she just do it different not like Whitney, Patti Labelle or even Beyonce. As for the British critics (some that is not all of them) who said she can’t sing they DO not represented the British people’s taste in music/singing. As far as I can see I hear the same crap here about her in the US too. Sade is a legend after selling more than 55 million albums, being in the music industry over 30 years…….so many so called “singers” of today here and abroad who are those same critics favorites be lucky if they could last as long as Sade did.

She may not have the most powerful vocal range but she can damn sure sing.

If you have ever seen her perform “live”, you know it was a treat.
I have never bought any of her albums because her music had so many subliminal messages throughout that I could not deal with, but I saw her do one Vegas show, and she rocks her band and the stage. One “Live” performance was enough to know her to be a talent.
All music is not for everybody.

95% of these new artists can sing. They can’t hold a note for more than 5 seconds, especially males, and female POP music makers (Rihanna!). These people are talk-singing, I hate that. So if Sade is guilty of that, then shoot the whole industry.

It’s called a unique STYLE of Singing perhaps? She doesn’t use anything to mask or hide her voice (I won’t name the folks that do, not necessary) and you can perhaps make the argument she doesn’t SING with much range but if you were Platinum Plus almost everytime you come out and sell out concerts, why would you?

That would be like me saying Country Music Singers (which I can’t Stand MOST of the songs) can’t sing? That’s their style of SINGING.

And though this may start ANOTHER argument but you saying she can’t sing is similar to folks (usually “US”) saying Kenny G and Paul Hardcastle isn’t really Jazz, which I dispute that too?

I think that Sade sings beautifully. So soulful and genuine. You can tell it comes from her heart. I wasn’t a fan about 7 or 8 years ago. It was just out of pure ignorance. She was not what I thought of as current. I bought the Lovers Rock cd and fell in love. So calm but so revolutionary. She is def a force.
