Monica Reacts To BET’s R&B Award Snub

The 2010 BET nominations have been announced and while Jay-Z is ahead of the pack, leading with 5 nods (Jay-Z Is A Wife Beater On BET), Monica is the artist that has got everyone talking.

The lack of recognition made by BET’s head honchos to Monica and her recent overwhelming success has sparked a Twitter outrage.

Although BET included Monica’s name in the category for “Viewers Choice Award” and something called a “Centric Award,” we expected more for an artist who returned from a hiatus with a #1 album (“Still Standing” claimed the spot only a week after it’s release) and her very own, well-received reality show.

Here’s what she had to say about being snubbed for “Best Female R&B Artist”

Beyoncé (with a two year-old album?!)
Mary J. Blige
Melanie Fiona (who better belongs in the “Best New Artist” category)
Alicia Keys
Rihanna (the hybrid of pop & (wannabe) rock)

    No she doesn’t!!! All she did on this album was mess up Deniece William’s song “Silly” with that re-make that doesn’t even have the original words. How in the hell do you steal the music and change the words; that’s what song writers do before they get real talent.

    I don’t understand Beyonce’s inclusion with a two year old album. Especially if nominated last year. I think she’s over rated and that Kelly has a smoother sound, if not the high energy presentation. I’m OK with Alicia and Mary J.; Melanie should be in the new artist cat, but can also fit in the R&B cat as well. Other artists have done it. And Monica should be recognized, with a new album that’s been number one. But I have no say, just an opinion. I’ve lost faith in award shows these days, there are too many of them going around.

    BET has always been backward. I remember on one of the very first awards shows, they put an R&B group who sang in the same category as a Hip Hop group that literally rapped, so it not a surprise that they would do that to a true veteran. But in the end she will get the credit and respect that she has earned. Besides like she said we, the fans get the last say so, so vote heavy.

    It amazes me how much we hate on each other…Beyonce had nothing to do with getting nominated and why must we always pit our singers against each other like they are in a cage match or something…I agree Monica should have been included, Bey shouldn’t have, but there is nothing to be done about it…I feel sorry for bey, being at the top she will always be hated on for nothing…she hasn’t hurt anyone, she gives back to the community, she is married, no kids out of wedlock, a positive young lady, but is that what people see no, we always gotta find the negative in everything…pissed off and tired…that is why we will always be at the bottom, because we spend so much time keeping each other from the top…so sad!!!

    umm…first of all, Monica’s song is called “EVERYTHING TO ME”–NOT “SILLY” but “EVERYTHING TO ME.” It is NOT a remake of “SILLY.” Missy Elliot just used the music from “Silly” she did NOT use the lyrics! Jazmine Sullivan wrote the lyrics for Monica. Monica made that crystal clear when the song first came out that it was NOT meant to be a remake!
