Models should be seen and not heard! And I’m tired of this issue being made to look like it’s a black man thing. Black people, around the goddamn world suffer from the propaganda against black skin.

thank you odoggz, the poison of white supremacy is everywhere and in everything we do. It takes the better of us, to ignore this cancer that keeps our ppl empty. Black is beautiful and has always been. So for the idiots that don’t know that…too bad!

I’m darkskin and my complextion is flawless no marks and even I’ve tried working in the industry but unfortunatly! No one will give me a chance and to hear that color may be what has held me back it’s a mess I walk down the street and people swear I’m someone and all I can say is I am just noo one will give me a chance cause I don’t follow the rules of a book created years before my time.
~ Tears fall, cause I love being black but being black is the only problem!

Fine women come in all complexions. So do silly airhead models. They should do what they do best: shaking their butts in music videos and smoking meat poles to further their careers.

I really enjoyed this video…whether we try to ignore it or not, this today is still a major issue. I was watching Tyra the other day and she had a “real teen model search” Well of course a light skin black young lady won. Its so typical…when they try to open the gate for plus size models, its always light skin or white women. What about brown/Chocolate skin women. Its a new barrier we have to break. We are aware of the color complexes, but no one is willing to make a change…they have the “it is what it is” Attitude. I applaud all the sistahs out here standing against the discrimination…it seriously makes us stronger and have a voice!

nice vid, but how sad was that when they did the Barbie doll experiment? even the adults were brainwashed…smh

GENERAL FACTOID: Confidence is an essential ingredient to the perception of beauty. When you look in the mirror and see true beauty, that intrinsic feeling will reflect outward to the world.

GENERAL COMMENT: Not everyone is obsessed by color as exemplified by the unparalleled success of SUPER MODEL Naomi Campbell. The latest and greatest “IT” girl, Jessica White, is also a dark brown skinned model, and she is the hottest thing to hit the catwalk since Naomi, winning million-dollar-contracts as a spokeswoman for both Cover Girl and Maybelline. Alex Wek is pitch black with a barely-there ‘fro, and she is one of the most highly sought after haute couture models in the world. Oprah is certainly not light-skinned, and she is the wealthiest black woman in the world. Michelle Obama is the First Lady of the United States, and she is on the darker side of the color spectrum. Your complexion is NOT A HINDRANCE unless you allow the naysayers to predicate who you should and can be. Whether you seek a position in politics, business, entertainment, beuaty, medicine, or whatever — it starts and ends with genuine belief in who you are. You are the Captain of Your Ship, and the Master of Your Fate.

The key is to believe in yourself, and even more importantly, to make an investment in yourself beyond the superficiality of your external beauty. Go to school, so that you will have a Plan B: even the most beautiful Diva, needs secondary options. The entertainment and beauty industries are fickled: one minute you can be hot, and the next minute – not. Pen your own “happily ever afters”.

Don’t ever let anyone dictate who you CAN be. When you walk down the street, and onlookers think that you are “somebody”, they think that because YOU ARE SOMEBODY, my dear. You are wonderful. You are beautiful. Believe in yourself; invest in yourself! You can do it…. Girrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl, go get it! I’m rooting for you.

g ay men run the fashion world so speak to them not straight men about it not . very few of hollywood’s “IT” girls wuld make my list.

i don’t know any man who discriminates based on color. a fine-a55 woman is a fine a55-woman toa man! it’s women who have the checklist when it comes to selecting the opposite s ex; so it’s hard to feel any sympahty here.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/sorreljl/ sorreljl

Caucasians used to be the only people obsessed with color. How in the hell did we get involved? As a black man, as far as I’m concerned, if you aren’t white you’re black and black is black no matter what shade of black. And further more, no truer statement was ever said than “Black is Beautiful”!
Leave the obsession to the white folks. Get back to being black and proud!
If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything; like this false claim of complexion obsession. The true answer is “people have preferences. “Let it go!!!!!!!!

As an african American Black female being a witness to this, one black male said that the lighter skin’d female was beautiful in fact fine as hell and I couldnt help but to ask why was this so ? Im of brown skin and rather sexy but he look past me to head for this woman of a lighter complexion- he talked of her hair and how fine she was compared to me and how cute they’d look together I was at a lost for words. (image)lighter women of mixed race have a lead role in society one would think, but our dark skin women have to be realistic with our approach we may feel we have to fight twice as hard to get the approval of our black men but this is not so.
Black men would not leave emotional scars on the lighter of the two darker women are believe to be strong and can handle anything….even being passed up for a white woman.

To Nefertiti313, That was the most heartfelt, honest, comment that I have ever read since being oppionated to read about complexion.People of color should love who they are.Wether they are large or small ,male or female.Embrace your beauty!!

@Jack_stephen1 …Bingo, you hit the head on the nail. Women tend to be their own worst enemy when it comes to what beauty is…. just sayin

I am a dark skinned woman in the UK and I love my skin. I have little cousins who are of many different complexion types and I encourage them to love their skin no matter what colour they are. I had to learn the hard way. IMO I find that most black people who don’t see it as a problem are light skinned because they are not on the receiving end. My ex-boyfriend (who is light skinned) was surprised one day when someone asked him how he can date a Ghanaian as they are too dark and he may have dark children. He was disgusted. When I grew up, mixed race girls were the “happening race” and people would say a dark skinned man was “chocolate” but dark skinned girls were ugly. Even some of my aunts who are darker than I am, used to make comments that I am too dark and should bleach my skin. Thankfully I never did and I now realise that I beautiful because I am me, not because I am dark, but because I am an individual. I love the way my light skinned friend can rock a light brown weave and she loves the way my skin shines and sets off bold block colours. We celebrate ourselves and love our differences! In the UK there are more bleaching creams on the shelves than in the states! I have seen stupid women buying creams to use on their children. There even cases where people have used so much steroid creams that they have suppressed their bodies natural hormone production, which is dangerous. There was a case in Ghana where people were putting industrial bleach in creams and people were developing serious burns. Stupid men like Diddy need to realise what they are portraying to young formative minds. If a guy asked me out, I am not looking at whether he is dark or light, I don’t care and thankfully my ex didn’t either. It is an issue that we need to address within the black community in all of the continents, but most importantly we need to teach our children to love themselves no matter what.

TopazAngel I’ve said the same thing about dark skin women. Complexion isn’t the black woman’s problem, but I’ll get to that in a minute. This whole thing is getting out of hand. Its beginning to sound like the brothers on the corner back in the 60s; “The man is keeping me down” syndrome.

There are some black men who prefer white women, there are some who prefer light, some prefer dark, some who like them tall, some short, skinny, or fat, and some who just don’t care as long as they find the love that they seek.
From what I’ve seen, the majority of my black brothers who are color struck, have nothing to offer a good black woman anyway. Most are living off of those so called “other women.”

The real problem for black women is finding a black man that isn’t caught up in the so called hip hop society with the rest of the want-to-bes. Finding a man who lives a well balanced life and is willing to commit, share, partner, communicate, provide, and place your needs above his own. You get my drift. Worry about finding the right man instead of criticizing the person who has exercised his God given right to preference. He is the last or only black man on earth, and he probably wasn’t right for you anyway.

You know, I haven’t met many single black men that I’d introduce to someone I care for; unfortunately, my son is in that group!

    I totally agree w/ETG83

Listening to light skin models say there is no disparages of dark skin models is like listening white people say there is no racism. As long as they are benefiting of course they don’t see it, or choose not too. Its horrible but unfortunately most of us got this from our parents and in turn they got it from there’s. Men and women partake in this ignorance equally. I’ve had girls tell me I was not light enough and had homeboys say certain girls was to dark.
This is very real and if you don’t think so look at how many users on black planet reference there skin tone in there user names. Acting doesn’t exist won’t make it go way.
On a side note I love dark skin sisters. I love the way there skin shine when its all lotion up( i mean come on who likes ashy skin anyway) and how smooth it can be. I love how that dark skin accentuate how pink that,,, okay well you all get that point. How about them light skin fat nasty chicks who think they can get by on being light skin alone. I’m tired of them.

I do find it interesting how most black dolls have huge lips that take up most of their faces. I personally think Black is beautiful. And dark skinned women are just as beautiful as light skinned or brown skinned. We come in different hues and they all are beautiful. And men have different preferences. Color, height, real hair/fake hair, etc.

BLACK MEN PREFER LIGHTER SKINNED WOMAN…THT’S SOME BULLS**T….THE BLACKER THE BERRY THE SWEETER THE JUICE….S**T…AIN’T NOTHING LIKE A DARK SKINNED WOMAN OR CHOCOLATE OR WHATEVER COLOR..AS LONG AS HEART IS GOOD!

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/Rueben85/ Rueben85

Capacuino10 “The man is keeping me down syndrome?” The dark skinned women in the video said that in spite of what goes on at casting, they will still show up. Yes men do have the right to their preferences, but it becomes a problem when people start equating dark skin with being ugly. Comments such as “you are pretty for a dark skinned girl” are not acceptable. When little dark skinned girls are saying “mummy I want to be light skinned so I can be pretty” you know that this is not just a case of “the man is keeping me down” syndrome. It is a serious problem. I am dark skinned and I never let my skin colour hold me back from anything. No-one is using excuses, people are just calling it for what it is.
freelancepimp I agree with you. If you are not on the receiving end, it may not always be apparent to you.

  • http://www.blackplanet.com/single_409/ single_409

Freelance pimp, I agree with you about the dark skin. I love it too.
So many of us hold each other down instead of uplifting each other. No one can help their complexion or genetic makeup. We are all equat in that we had nothing to do with how light or dark we turn out to be. This whole discussion has always given me a complex. I’m light and I do my best to make it known that I’m black. I don’t know how anyone wouldn’t be able to tell but I rock my braids and ethnic jewelry whenever possible. Some of us leave me at a loss. I love us but just like a fed up mother, I don’t know what else to do. Should I have to prove myself? No. It’s frustrating.

That was a great video of Joy Daily T.V……I think that Blacks hate being black and everything that reminds them of what their not in regards to what the white race is. Even to this day after 170 year of being freed from slavery….we still hate ourselves, we hate our color, we hate our bodies, and even lighter skin Blacks can’t get “White Enough”. We’re still regard the White race as the ultimate race….no matter how beautiful, smart, innovative, and unique we may be….Black’s hate themselves….if you disagree…then your not being truthful to yourself…..it’s self evident even with the children & adults preferring the white doll over the black doll…..no matter how we look at it….African Americans will always be slaves….because we enslave our possibilities, dreams, and beauty

The complex with skin color is a major issue all over the world and its not just in the african american community! Women in Indonisa use bleaching cream to lighten their skin to fit a certain class. In India, the darker your complexion, you are immediately classified as lower class and poor! It’s an issue that will always exist and never disappear.
