Well Jamie has always said no one is exempt on that radio show or in comedy. I would just hope that whenever someone hurts the children there would be a call to action. Such as boycotting etc. I love me some Jamie Fox so I may be a little biased (smile) but I don’t believe he crossed the line. For one reason Gabrielle don’t look like Biggie. Now in the movie Precious I don’t feel Precious looked her best throughout the movie. But lest we get the two mixed up, Gabrielle is so totally different from Precious to me in every way. Precious is a character that warrants such sympathy and then happiness at her overcoming such impossible obstacles even to the level that she did overcome. Gabrielle is a whole different ball game. She really did rock every time she showed up at any affair. She is intelligent, educated and articulate and has super high self esteem. I am pretty sure she can handle herself with even Jamie Fox and Jamie Fox is strictly doing comedy when he says those things. In her face he’d be a p***ycat because I believe he genuinely likes women and seems to respect strong women. I believe he has the since to be afraid of them too (smile). So I wouldn’t worry about that little thing. How many out there feel Gabrielle is allowing Hollywood to appreciate a whole different type of beauty than they ever have before? I don’t know who is dressing her but unlike most people they are not putting her in all this black because of her size. They see she’s young and they’re presenting her in beautiful living color. If she’s dressing herself it’s on point and makes her even more awesome and get more respect from me. I’ve seen her on the magazines, movie, t v and I think she makes being big and dark black look so beautiful. How can anyone not see her beauty. She shines. She’s cute. When she talks she lights up the place. I really admire her and hope Hollywood will take a cue and see the beauty in a different type of look. Instead of that same boring white or light, skinny as you can get, anorexic, hungry, starved, I can’t ever eat look. I’m sure Gabrielle is intelligent enough or someone who loves her will let her know in a good way that will help her when the weight begins to be unhealthy. That happened for Monique as beautiful as she is. Her husband pulled her coat to that and she worked it out and still looks gorgeous and is still not a skinny stick. Right now Gabrielle is healthy, young and beautiful and in her moment. Probably laughing all the way to the bank. So let her have this time because God knows we have enough bad times. Her weight is probably not bothering her at this time because she’s so young. She looks very healthy right now to me. Let’s continue to protect her from bad vibes by keeping with the positive and holding others to that. Didn’t the entertainment industry accept Biggie Smalls? People may have called him ugly, but people still bought his albums. Post mortem, people (the media) still remember him 15 years after his death. They don’t do that for Fred Berry, Darren Robinson, or any other plus-sized black entertainer.

Being compared to Biggie isn’t that bad of a comparison. Granted, it’s ignorant to suggest the two look a like because they’re both dark skin and plus sized. The two look nothing alike. Their facial features bear no resemblance. They’re even two different shades of dark-brown.

As far as Sibide’s not having a chance in Hollywood due to her size, the fact that she was even at the Oscars shuts that idea down. The perpetuated ‘status quo’ is facade, to discourage most from realizing the truth – it doesn’t matter what you look like in terms of whether or not you can make it in Hollywood. This year, Mo’Nique re-established this for all of us. She doesn’t have blonde hair, a narrow nose, pale or light skin, hairless legs, etc…physical attributes many black women in the industry had been protesting within the past 5 or so years as the reason many were getting looked over for roles. However, it definitely helped that a black director was doing the hiring this time.

Being plus sized certainly didn’t stop Jennifer Hudson from winning an Oscar. Out of the 5 black women who have won an Academy Award, 4 are not skinny chicks and don’t fit the perpetuated main stream standard of beauty. One has even has worn her hair natural for her entire career. Even in McDaniel’s day, most of the idolized (in main stream) black female actresses didn’t look like her. But it was McDaniel who received the highest accolade for screen acting in that era.

IMO – it’s not Sibide’s weight that could hold her back in her career, but the lack of overall diversity in the entertainment field. IMO – it’s about finding and connecting with the right people – honing and being good at your craft. To me, the industry seems to have more black producers, directors, writers, etc… now than ever before.

Jamie Foxx is just making jokes, that’s what he does… But what the weight loss company did was a total imposition, and rude. I understand why you’re defending Perry. I’m on the fence with the brother, because while his movies are the ONLY movies that show black male/female relationships of ANY kind on the big screen,

BUT his buffoon-medies (sitcoms) subtract from the equation of MY idea of a conscious black man. ME: I’m glad you brought up the OBVIOUS skin color issues of both Tyler Perry AND Oprah. Some of that is from their own upbringing in a white supremacy society — BUT some is due to the demands of white Hollywood and TV. One black male director — who shall remain anonymous — shared this with a poster friend of mine who works in TV. He said he can’t cast any female darker than Gabrielle Union — or his picture won’t get made. In other words, white Hollywood DOES NOT want beautiful dark skinned black women to be seen on the screen — and if you notice it, most of the BW in TV shows, commercials, and movies, if they are portraying a “sexy” BW are usually either light brown or light skinned or damn near white..

Why? Because this promotes the idea that “light” is better than “dark” and “white” is better than “light” — it’s white supremacy all day long, and by doing this, they are trying to program BLACK MEN to reject black women in general so we will NEUTRALIZE ourselves and seek to breed ourselves out of existence…

Yes indeed I agree! I have made it my life’s goal to be sure that my own daughters do not think being educated is ‘acting white’. Often times they are ridiculed or picked at by other kids for sounding like they do, which I can understand why some might ‘fold’ under that because its not the ‘cool’ thing to do, but I have them keep in mind that all they have been picked at about today will definately make all the difference for their personal 2morrow. I tell black people time and time again that there is no such thing as ‘acting white’..There is only acting appropriately and inappropriately..period. And it’s not a racial issue at that.

It’s FUNNY but GABBY’S REAL LIFE speaks for itself PERIOD! Some people felt that because she is OVERWEIGHT, she couldn’t ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING. We all know she PROVED them ALL WRONG!! The lesson here is to NEVER UNDERESTIMATE ANYONE. A person doesn’t have to be WHITE and anorexic looking to do something with their lives.
