Howard Stern can be as azz, it’s true but he does make a valid point. I admire her work in Precious but I don’t see her having a lot more roles available to her in Hollywood. We all know how superficial that world is.

Honestly, I agree with him. Hollywood doesn’t care about “actors” or real acting anymore. Avatar just made billions of dollars, because of the brilliant acting? It’s all about visuals. She won that best actress award not because of a brilliant display of acting ability, but rather, she brought to “life” a long held stereotype of the “ghetto child” who has to deal with her welfare receiving, 40 ounce drinking, black mother. How many more movies can she play that role in? It’s a wrap. She may not even have 15mins of fame, may be more like 8mins. If she really has a passion for cinema, she can cultivate these skills into a career behind the camera. That’s where all the money is anyway. In the meantime, she got to live a Cinderella life — if only for fifteen minutes. She met a lot of high profile celebrities, was on the Oprah Winfrey Show, walked the Red Carpet, attended the Academy Awards, was nominated for an Oscar and won an NAACP Image Award.

Anyone who has ever seen Gabourey interviewed would have to agree that this is a woman who is articulate, charming and thinks on her feet. She can parlay this experience — and the invaluable movers-and-shakers who she met — to network herself into a 7-figure career. Oprah has obviously taken a special interest in this woman and has adopted her as a protégé. With Oprah starting her own network, Gabourey very well might have the opportunity to learn the intrinsic elements involved in television production, which can evolve into an Executive Producer gig. (We all know that it is NOT what you know, but who you know that gets your foot in the door)…
While I wholeheartedly agree that there would be very few opportunities for Gabourey in front of the camera, there are a wealth of diverse opportunities that can (and probably will) present themselves to her behind the camera.

Really, I don’t see ANY downsides of Gabourey’s journey. It was a “dream-come-true” and with her unequivocal intelligence, her dream can continue…
