Awwwh he was only trying to make her fit in. But it was a little disrespectful being that her father was offended. However that’s how they get down in Hollywood.

Chris Rock will do anything for a laugh — even at the expense and dignity of a young, rising black starlet.

As a neophyte to the entertainment industry, I do believe Chris was just trying to make her feel “included” and “accepted”, but he could have given her a big kiss, or something/anything that wasn’t so disrespectful. Chris just needs to think before he acts. I don’t think he meant to be offensive, but grabbing or touching an intimate part of a woman’s body without permission is just not cool.

the last time a man touched her a55 was probably when the doc delivered her! and he really didn’t touch her a55…he couldn’t reach it! he grabbed handles, rolls n folds!

Well, Hattie McDaniel, who was about the size and the color, I might add, of this beautiful young lady, Gabourey Sidibe, won the Oscar for “Gone with the Wind” in 1940. When criticized for playing a maid in the movie her comment was…..”I would rather play a maid and make $700.00 a week than be one for $7.00″. My point is Gabourey Sidibe is a new, fresh, beautiful, talented, educated, well spoken, and I might add, a very CONFIDENT young lady. I have no idea what Chris Rock was doing or rather trying to do when he squeezed her rear. In fact I watched the awards and missed that. I further do not know if any other actor’s or actress’ rear was touched or squeezed in the past. What I do know is that this young lady is someone that we can really be proud of and who we should support and encourage to go on to greater heights in the movie industry. To give such a powerful performance right out of the gate as she did was superb, especially since Gabourey, the person, does not even remotely resemble in personality Precious, the character, in the movie. It is something that we should not overlook just because her outside appearances are not what some of us think that it should be. Get over it people everyone is not a size 8, 10, or 12. MY GOD, when are we as a people going to stop judging a person on OUTSIDE appearances and start looking at what comes from the INSIDE??? If that young lady is comfortable with her size which she seems to be then so am I. Her personality is what I look at and to me she has a BEAUTIFUL PERSONALITY. How can anyone miss that?? In spite of little nasty comments about her she still has that winning smile and that bouncing personality. It’s sort of like she’s saying…..”I KNOW WHO I AM” To her I say…..You go GABBY!!! I just hope that Hollywood and all it’s trappings do not get to her in a negative way.
And as far as the comment that Chris Rock is probably the only man who has touched her since her doctor when she was born, or something to that effect. According to the news media she is very popular in college and was dating several young men BEFORE she was picked for the movie, Precious. NOW.

There was nothing funny about, Chris Rock grabbing Ms. Sidibe’s assets. A hug and a kiss would have been fine. Sometimes this guy just gets on my nerves, and this is one of those times. That young girl handled the situation well.

Gabrielle did her thing when it came to acting and she should be commended for her talent. This is another reason why the black race is so fkn behind we always worrying about what the next person looks like instead of supporting them. I didn’t see the show, but laughed about it when I read the article. Then I felt like what Chris did was inappropriate for that type of venue. Had it been the Golden Globes or something less “serious”, okay. But he kind of made a mockery out of the show. Am I wrong on this?

With all due respect, that obesity causes health issues is a foregone conclusion. I’m sure Gabourey understands this, just like a lot of other overweight people do. But there is no need to tear down someone (not implying that you did, but there are some people on these posts who are quick to make unkind comments about big people).

I’m a little baffled at a few sistas saying that it’s not a big deal to be disrespected in the manner. This was not at a house party. It wasn’t down at the corner bar. It wasn’t even at a company function. This was at an award ceremony for the Nationl Association for the ADVANCEMENT of Colored People. If we can’t carry ourselves in a dignified manner there, then when are we gonna do it? Bad enough she had to play in a movie so filled with the worst of stereotypes just to get some recognition, but she has to be subjected to this type of treatment in front of peers, movie executives, friends and family. And what message does this send. Black men don’t even respect their OWN women, so why should we. It’s the exact same thing as the phenomenon that has White folks thinking that it’s okay for them to use the N-Word because “they use it with each other and say it’s a term of endearment”. no where in my statement did i say that ‘skinny’ people do not suffer from these diseases but it is a known fact that obesity makes a person more prone to these diseases… heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension, but being obese…she is 4 times more likely to suffer from either one of those diseases before she reaches middle age if not already…..and no one is hating on her…i didn’t like the movie or her or monique’s role….that is my opinion…which i am entitled to..it has nothing to do with as a person, her character or her talent as an actor…no one is downing her…but be realistic she needs to lose weight for the sake of her health…
