There’s nothing scarier than the mid-lovemaking realization that the condom broke. As we all know condoms are not 100% safe but there are many ways you can make sure they are less likely to break.

1. All Condoms Are Not Equal
Pick and chose your condoms wisely. There are very poor quality condoms circulating out there and some really high quality brands as well. We hate to break the news that those good ol’ regular Trojans just aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. Try to find brands like Crown, Vivid, Kimono and Beyond Seven. These are top-notch condoms that will provide maximum pleasure while being less likely to break.

2. Size Matters
One of the biggest condom malfunction causes is due to size. If the condom is too small this will increase the chances of it breaking. Our advice is to try a few out and find one that fits your partner comfortably. If you both are having trouble finding the right fit you might need to try something bigger like, Trojan Magnums. If you need something a bit smaller try Mamba condoms. FYI: If you’re buying Kimono condoms, remember these run a tiny bit small, making the ‘large’ size more like a regular.

3. Putting The Condom On
This is another area where a lot of mistakes are made that can be easily prevented. First make sure the condom is being unrolled on the right direction. The lip should be facing outward, not inward. Squeeze the air out of the tip before rolling up. If there are any air bubbles the condom is very likely to break. A little lube in the tip of the condom also helps minimize friction, which is both more comfortable for the wearer and adds to the effectiveness of the condom.

4. Cleaning Up
Always take off the condom away from you and your private parts to avoid any accidental spillage. Then make sure to tie the condom up and dispose of it (the toilet is not a good idea, unless you want to have to ring your plumber at 3am).

5. What If The Condom Breaks?
STOP. Hopefully it will happen before the boys were let loose and the broken condom can be removed and replaced it with a new one. If it happens after he popped the cork, then it’s unfortunately all a game of chance.

6. Condom Myths

“Using two condoms will provide a double barrier against STI’s and pregnancy.”

FALSE! This only increases the chances of condom breakage.

“I only have to put it on if I’m going to go all the way.”

This is also FALSE. Having any sexual contact unprotected will expose you to STI’s. Pre-ejaculate can be a baby just waiting to happen.

I hope this gave you some insight on how to have the safest and most fun sex you can possibly have! Now, wrap it up and start gettin’ down to business!

PSA: I’m a little dissapointed that the author of this article FAILED TO MENTION the morning after pill as something one can do if the condom breaks. It’s sold over the counter at most walgreens, CVS, and other pharmacies or you can pick it up at Planned Parenthood. If you take it within a few days of the ‘accident’ it GREATLY reduces your chances of getting pregnant because it works like a fast acting birth control pill. But, it’s only for emergencies because if you use it all the time it becomes less effective with each use. So no it’s not quite all up to chance. Whether you get an infection on the other hand is a whole other story.

Dear miss_shai: I feel oral contraceptives and the morning after pill are another issue altogether. The morning after pill is still a touchy subject for some people and I did not want this to turn into a moral issue. The morning after pill is also NOT to be used as a method of birth control! Also, transmission of STIs is prevented by using a condom as well. This is also something that is VERY important.

Condoms,Always go0od to protect agaist std”s,but if your married or in a good relationship and want to prevent pregnancy for whatever your reason,I say try the depo. shot. You get it once every three months, and its a great intamacy saver.Trust me ive been married 14 years and 9 kids later you dont always have time to search for one,or to snap ,pinch and roll on a condom.

The morning after pill is a moral issue because alot of people don’t know what it is. They think it causes abortions. I guess it upsets me when important information doesn’t reach people who deserve to know.

sti’s?! its std’s u dumbass! wtf is sti’s? is there like a difference or just a typo? so how the hell does someone prevent broken condoms if these steps still dont prevent it? why dont they make condoms out of unbreakable material? that would be smart. im not puttin myself at risk with s**t that doesnt work 100%!

To the anonymous poster: STI stands for sexually transmitted infection. The use of this acronym is interchangeable with the acronym STD. Lighten up!

Additionally, I thought that I might add that there is nothing that works 100% to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted infections…except of abstinence.

It is important to understand that having a baby is not the worst outcome of having unprotected sex. Contracting incurable sexually transmitted infections such as HIV/AIDS, Herpes Simplex Virus or Human Papilloma Virus can be way more devastating. These infections last a LIFETIME. Spend a few bucks and protect yourself, it will be worth it in the long run.

(More tips to enhance your experience with condoms:
    1. Add a drop of KY warming to the inside of the receptacle end of the condom for a more pleasurable experience for him
    2. Flip a ribbed condom outside in for a new sensation
    3. Refrain from using oil-based lubricants/products with latex condoms as they can weaken the latex and increase the risk of a possible rupture
    4. If you suffer from latex allergies, polyurethane condoms can be used)

Go to the local free clinic and try telling those doctors that the condom broke. The condom only breaks on people who never use them.

Magnums have always served me right! At first I didn’t use magnums and was baffled as in why my jimmy use to break, but now I can’t go wrong with that.
