Since emerging as an R&B star, Rihanna has dated several notable fellows, and so far as we can tell, she likes three kinds of guys. Observe:

In May 2012, Rihanna was linked to New York Knicks basketball player J.R. Smith. Less than a year before that, she was cozying up to Los Angeles Dodgers baseball player Matt Kemp. And might there have been a 2009 hookup with basketball player Rashard Lewis? Clearly, she’s got a thing for ballers.

The most notorious of Rihanna’s boyfriend is R&B star Chris Brown, who beat her up on the eve of the 2009 Grammys. After dating Brown, Rihanna had a fling with Drake, though she’s said that she broke it off with the Canadian rapper before long, since she was too fragile to commit. In 2011, Rihanna supposedly dated Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Our guess: They talked about tattoos.

I will not say that getting up before the sun to go sweat through my natural curls has been easy. But my battle of the bulge hasn’t been against the physical part of the weightloss aka the workout, it’s actually been the diet part.

Eating without salt, dairy products, rice, pasta, bread and anything else that you can think of that you fully indulge in, is hard. Damn hard. In fact, it’s been studied and proven that 80% of people that lose weight, gain it back. Why don’t diets and exercising work? They do work. It’s us. It’s not that we don’t do the work. Many of us quit after we reach a certain goal or we just lose focus.

What I’ve noticed over the last couple of years of losing 15% of my own body fat is that it’s about making better choices. If you work in an office like I do–there’s always going to be random cakes to celebrate this or that person, catered lunches with all kinds of tasty sandwiches and maybe even a few after-work happy hour gatherings with cheap liquor that loosens your mind and your judgment and before you know it–you’re munching on something deep fried. One bad decision can lead to a day filled with the wrong choices.

Just because it’s a struggle to maintain grabbing baby carrots instead of a bag of chips doesn’t mean that it can’t be done. Ok, let yourself have that greasy snack you think you’re craving, but let that be your only downfall that day, or even better, that week. Personally, I’ve let myself make a few bad choices in my first weekend after I barely made it through the first week of classes.

set myself up for failure when I was reminded that this past weekend was Memorial Day Weekend and I looked on my calendar and saw two different BBQ’s. *sigh* I told myself I would cheat just once at each BBQ, Once I arrived, spotted the burgers and ribs cooking at the first BBQ, I told myself, “Ok, just one of each and that’s it.” I put them in my plate and after eating the burger (complete with cheese AND bread–two things I’m not allowed to eat right now) and the two–yes two pork ribs, I knew I’d done enough. I had to keep reminding myself that all it takes it one bad choice and I made it a point to keep those choices to a minimum.

Failure is easy when you give yourself unrealistic goals like cutting out EVERYTHING that’s bad from your diet. That doesn’t mean that you’re giving your trainer or nutritionist the side eye; it does mean that you can have a bite or two of the Ben & Jerry’s, so long as it stops there. The guilt you’ll feel should be great enough to let that bitte or two suffice. Don’t let that guilt drag you down and make you give up, thus ruining your entire diet and in turn, your journey.

5 Notable Moments From Beyonce’s Revel Concert

Queen Bey has done it again…working feverishly at her craft has earned her the title of the best performer since Michael Jackson (The Dream)! Beyonce owned Ovation Hall stage in Atlantic City this Memorial weekend!

In case you missed it, here are seven notable (two honorable mentions) moments from Bey’s comeback concert from HB attendee Candace Amos:

5. From the moment the show started, none of the concert goers sat down. She thanked Kelly for babysitting Blue Ivy while she was performing. She thanked Jay for flying out to catch her the last show. She also thanked Michelle for coming.

4. When she sang “Flaws & All,” she had the camera zoom in on her face the whole time, showing the crowd her own “flaws,” allowing the crowd to connect to her.

3. Newcomer Luke James opened the show. He was on for about hour. The crowd loved him. He gave out roses to fans in the pit at the end of his performance. He said it was an honor to share the stage with Beyonce and she could have picked anyone, but picked him.

2. When Bey sang “Resentment,” she was very emotional. She even cursed a bit in the song.

1. Beyonce opened with “Love On Top” and the crowd went crazy. She was a total diva the entire time. She strutted every chance she had. It was the best! Overall, her show was very Vegas-styled. From the costumes to the lighting to the video production – she actually did “Countdown” with a remix video of cute little cube boxes that she danced on – everything was super interactive.

Honorable Mentions:

- The two-hour set time! Beyonce didn’t bring anyone out on stage, she actually performed the whole time solo. After the first hour, you felt fulfilled, but when you realized there was more, everyone was like, “Yay!”

- Her 6-8 costume changes! During one of them, there was even a video montage with a quick shot of Bey holding Blue Ivy, rocking her. The video showed the audience how grateful she is, just like we saw with all the vacation and candid family shots on her Tumblr.

Tami Roman is a “Hot Topic” for sure! The reality star recently sat down with media maven Wendy Williams to candidly talk about her “Basketball Wives” behavior that is causing such a ruckus with viewers and sponsors.

“I acted a pure fool,” says Roman. The mother-of-two admits that her daughters were embarrassed for her and that she should be a better example for them. After verbally assaulting Kesha Nichols during a trip to Tahiti, Tami was labeled a “bully” and “hood.”

Tami and the rest of the “Basketball Wives” have vowed to do better. Evelyn Lozada has come out and apologized for her irresponsible actions as well. We shall see how the next season unfolds, if there is one!

Introducing The Newest Single Lady, Raquel “Single Ladies” [RECAP]

Alas, it’s finally time for another season of “Single Ladies”! Picking up where we left from last season, Keisha and April introduce us to their long time friend, Raquel, who’s absolutely beautiful and getting ready to marry the man of her dreams or at least the man of her parent’s dreams. The ladies are at Raquel and her fiancee’s engagement party, and when Raquel’s fiancee goes off for a quick “bathroom break”, she catches him cheating on her with another woman! Raquel announces his infidelity to the entire party, and the girls storm out the party together. Now, a single Raquel has time to find herself. She has an amazing job and she’s just realizing that she lost herself in her relationship with her fiancee. Now that she’s single, she has time to figure out who Raquel truly is.

Ironically enough, Val’s ex, Jerry, was at Raquel’s party, and April and Keisha do their best to try and put in a good word for their good friend. Val is in Milan at the moment because she needed some time away from Atlanta after her devastating marriage proposal went wrong when Jerry caught her sleeping with her ex-boyfriend.

Once Keshia and April realize that Jerry wants nothing to do with Val, they leave him alone and let him go his way. Hey, at least they tried.

Back at Val’s boutique, April and Keshia get an email from Val saying that she’s never coming back to Atlanta and is staying in Milan forever. (Good way to write her out of the script) The girls have a mini funeral for their fallen single lady, and pour out a little champagne on her behalf. Raquel is there for the “funeral” and takes a little sip of the champagne before announcing that she’s quit her job in an effort to truly find herself. Welcome to the world of Single Ladies, Raquel.

Meanwhile, Keshia is still distraught over her man, Malcolm and his little disappearing act. She hasn’t heard or seen him in two weeks, and the FBI has been hunting her down asking her about his whereabouts. When she received a surprise gift with a cell phone inside, she realizes it’s from Malcolm, who’s asked her to meet him for dinner so he can explain everything to her. Malcolm offers her an apology and explains that the FBI isn’t looking for him, but instead they’re looking for the Mayor that April messed around with last season. Apparently, the Mayor has been doing some shady business for years, and Malcolm was paying bribes and using his ex-wife Ashley as the messenger. They were recently caught, and Ashley left the country but not Malcolm is left to try and clear his name. Whew!

After a steamy make up session, Keshia and Raquel go to April’s party to support her on her new business ventures. Right when the party starts heating up, the FBI shows up and arrests Keshia to take her into custody. She’s being forced to tell the FBI where Malcolm is, and is she agrees, all of her own legal problems will be erased. So now, she’s faced with telling on the love of her life or risking battling a legal issue for the rest of her life. Which would you choose?

Ironically enough, Keshia’s lawyer happens to be her ex, who isn’t too found of Malcolm dating his ex girl in the first place, but promises that he’ll get Keshia out of this mess. I sense these two hooking up in the very near future.

Keshia arrives with her lawyer to the FBI and surprisingly enough, Malcolm and his lawyer arrive on the scene as well. Malcolm is a little taken aback to see Keshia with her lawyer, but she assures him that he’s just that, her lawyer, and Malcolm goes inside with the FBI for questioning.

Over on the other side of Atlanta, Raquel takes a drive with her ex-fiancee to talk about possibly getting back together. Raquel tells him that she wants a passionate kind of love, and not the love that he was giving her. “I can’t ever go back” she tells him as she gets out of the car. Keshia and April are there just in time to pick Raquel up off the street, and together the three of them go to take on Atlanta.

Can’t wait to see what kind of trouble these three will get in over the season!

With all the joys that come with being new parents, it’s hard to balance your attention between the new baby and your relationship at times. I remember when I had my daughter my husband couldn’t help but feel somewhat jealous of the attention I paid to her instead of him. I was somewhat taken aback by this but I also can see his side too, I guess.

When a new baby comes into the picture there is little room left to pay attention to anything else. When the baby is awake it’s all about feeding the baby, changing the baby, playing with the baby etc. When the baby is sleep it’s all about getting rest so you are ready when the baby wakes up.

Personally, I was extremely tired most of the time and if I did have a moment to myself, it was spent sleeping. The good news this does not last forever. Once I establish a solid routine for my daughter would sleep, nap, and eat; I then was able to find more time to devote to our relationship. It was definitely an adjustment for everyone but once we figured it out, we were right back on track. My husband just had to suck it up for the interim–oh poor baby! It’s all a balancing act and that will never change.

Less than six months ago, Beyonce gave birth to her first child–Blue Ivy Carter. The superstar retreated to the privacy of her love kingdom to enjoy motherhood, but it wouldn’t be long before the stage would call the Queen back to her throne.

Beyonce donned custom-made “modern showgirl” costumes from designers: Ralph & Russo, The Blondes, David Koma, and mother–Tina Knowles for House of Deréon Couture.

Ev: “Her Whole Existence Is A Lie, And I Will Stand By That”, “Basketball Wives Season Finale” [RECAP]

We’ve finally made it to the home stretch, the season finale of “Basketball Wives”. This season was absolutely crazy. We saw a 14 year friendship between Evelyn and Jennifer crumble right before our eyes, saw Ev self destruct on Kenya and witnessed the “slap heard around the world” which started a huge legal deal with Jen and Nia. What better way to end this season than to Jen and Ev back together for one last hoorah. We picked up from Ev chasing Jen around their resort in Tahiti to get her to “lay everything on the table”. Ev is upset that Jen continues to run her mouth on her Twitter page, blogs and interviews with magazines about the situation with Nia and Ev’s choice in men. Jen still tries to remain clueless as if she has no idea why Ev is mad and doesn’t even know what interview she’s referring to. Shaunie tries to talk to Jen and get her to speak with Ev one on one but at this point, Jen doesn’t want to hear it and continues to stay hidden away in her room away from the drama. “Her whole existence is a lie, and I will stand by that,” Ev says, and by the looks of Ev’s facial expressions it seems as if she’s going to take the entire episode to prove that.

It seems as if whatever happened when they went to Vegas last year was a huge deal because Ev will NOT let it go. She keeps bringing up the fact that Jen slept with other people while she was married to Eric on their Vegas vacation. Whatever happened to the saying “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”?

Surprisingly enough, Ev is not picking up bottles and jumping on tables in this week’s episode. Instead, she’s crying over the lose of her friendship with Jen. At this moment, I can truly see the value that Ev placed on her friendship with Jen, and it’s sad to see their 14 years go down the drain.

Kenya and Tami try and talk to Ev and explain to her that it’s time she move on and by the next day, Ev is in great spirits and seems to have finally out the situation to rest. Until Jen decides to emerge from her hotel and approaches Ev and the rest of the girls. “Do you realize that you’re really the start of all this?” Evelyn asks Jennifer. “You are the reason why our friendship is where it’s at and everything that’s going on, all the drama, all the s— with Nia, after the slap or whatever happened, you go and do another interview.”

Jen still acts confused about what interview Ev is referring to but Ev doesn’t give her a chance to think before she starts bringing up skeletons from Jen’s past and her “sexcapades” in Vegas. After nothing seems to get resolved, Ev politely dismisses Jen from the conversation, and Jen dismisses herself (with Kenya following her) from the island and heads back to Miami.

At dinner, Suzie (who can’t keep a secret to save her life) tells the other girls that she saw Jen and Kenya leaving the island. The remaining girls are shocked that it’s come down to this, but quickly forget about it when Ev surprises everyone with gifts and small notes showing her appreciation. It’s good to finally see a peaceful moment on this trip!

After the girls head back to Miami, Tami decides to meet up with Royce and tell her about all the drama that happened on the island. The only problem is that Kesha has already told Royce all the details about everything, and Royce is a little upset at the way Tami treated Kesha. “I don’t have time for a friend of mine to chastise me and dictate what I should be saying in this situation and not acknowledge what the other person is doing,” Tami tells Royce. It looks like Tami isn’t too happy with the fact that Kesha talked to Royce about the situation and the fact that Royce took Kesha’s side because her only words to Shaunie about Royce were, “F*** Royce”.

Looks like another friendship bites the dust.

People tend to think you need a lot of time, money and a fancy gym to exercise. This is not always true! Here are five basic exercises that can be done from your office, home or where ever you are!

1) Walking – If you have stairs in your home, go up and down them a few times. Instead of waiting for the elevator, take the stairs. If you take a bus or train, get off a few stops earlier and walk the rest of the way. Whenever possible, just walk! It’s a great way to help tone up your legs.

2) Jumping Jacks – This calisthenic exercise works out your shoulders, back, thighs and calves. Start in a standing position with your feet together and your arms relaxed by your side. When you jump, move your feet apart until they are wider than your shoulders, while at the same time raising your arms over your head. Then jump back into starting position.

3) Leg lifts – This exercise can be done from sitting on a chair at your desk. Sit upright in the chair while lifting your legs until they are at a straight angle towards your hips. Lower your legs slowly and stop about 3 inches off of the floor. Hold your legs steady for about 2 seconds and then repeat.

4) Squats – Knowing how to do squats properly can firm up your butt and legs rapidly. Stand with your legs evenly apart while keeping your toes, hips and knees in a straight line. Slowly lower your body as if you were going to sit in a chair, bending the knees. Hold the position for 2 seconds and then return to starting position. Then repeat 10-15 times for an intense work out.

5) Dancing – Besides being lots of fun, dancing has many great health benefits. You will gain flexibility, strength, endurance and a sense of well being just by throwing on your favorite tunes and getting your dance on!

African-Americans Invented Memorial Day, First Celebration In 1865

African-Americans held the first Memorial Day. However, in 1865, it was called “Decoration Day.”

What was once a little known fact is now being outed by Yale University history professor David Blight, who, 15 years ago was doing research for a forthcoming book when he stumbled upon a box of unorganized papers of a Union veterans’ organization.

Three years before the commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic called on Union veterans’ organizations to decorate the graves of dead soldiers, blacks in Charleston, South Carolina in 1865 held their own “Decoration Day” to honor the Union’s war dead.

“That shows that some parts of history can be lost, depending on who’s in control,” says Blight. Read more at Black America Web.
