Before court convened for the day, the two reached an agreement for the shared custody of their three children this summer. According to lawyers, the children, 12, 10 and 8, will finish the school year where they are: the two boys with their father in Prosper, the daughter with her mother in Celina. They’ll start the summer with all three living with Pilar Sanders. If necessary, a court ruling will be sought later regarding subsequent primary custody.

I’m 24 years old and my boyfriend of two years is 30 years old, but we have been knowing each other for four years.

I have a son from a previous relationship that he adores, and he has four children from a previous relationship that I adore. Everything is as good as it can possibly be and I couldn’t be happier. But, about a month and a half ago he brought up the topic of marriage and has been talking about it every since. Ironically, we have the same last name already (I know what you’re thinking, “Girl, you better check to make sure y’all not related,” which I did). People already assume we are married. He has been married once before and it ended ugly, so I feel that it was necessary to tell him that the topic makes me a little nervous because once I get married I don’t want to get a divorce. He said he understands because he doesn’t want to get married and divorced again, and he wants me to be the woman he grows old with.

Dear Ms. Should I Or Shouldn’t I,

Yes, girl, it’s just pre-marital jitters, and many people feel them. It’s a new step in a new direction. And, the thought of being married along with the amount of work and commitment it takes is hard work. So, a lot of people get nervous and scared. It can be pressures of having to be perfect, or not getting it wrong, and feeling like a failure if it doesn’t work. Many thoughts and scenarios are running through your mind of what can go wrong. Stop focusing on the negative, and start thinking of all the things that can go right!

And, I’m glad that you shared with your boyfriend how you actually feel. Some folks would have lied, and ignored the conversation, and eventually they would begin to push their mates away, or put up a wall and not communicate. So, kudos to you.

Now, to handle these premarital jitters, well, I suggest you speak with a marriage counselor, and definitely get premarital counseling from your pastor, or spiritual leader. The jitters, and nervousness you have can be dealt with, and you can have a professional help you get to the root of your concerns. There may be something there that you are not aware of, and talking about it will help you and your boyfriend.

I’m tending to waver on the side of two things: He’s been married before, and that scares you. He’s had experience in being married, and has an expectation. Also, you’re 24 years old, and he’s 30 years old. That’s a major age difference. You haven’t really lived through your 20s yet, and he has. So, that can play into some of the jitters.

Here’s a novel idea: You can sit down with your boyfriend and make a list of the pros and cons about marriage. Write down what you are looking forward to. What’s exciting about being married to each other, and more importantly, what and how do you define marriage. I get too many letters from married folks who didn’t get premarital counseling, and they didn’t talk with their mates about what marriage meant for them. They just marched their happy asses down the aisle, said “I do,” had a party, and BAM! It hits them weeks later after the hoopla has died down, and the issues arise. The problems smack them dead in the face. They realize they have nothing in common, they hate each other, talk badly to one another, and treat each other like dogs. And, it all could have been avoided if they had received some counseling. But, folks are too damn fast these days.

So, make the list, sit and talk with your boyfriend, and definitely get into some premarital counseling. If you feel in your heart he is the man for you, the man you can see yourself being with for the rest of your life, and you’re willing to make it work when times get hard, and you’re going to stick it out through sickness and in health, the good and the bad, then honey, marry that man. I now pronounce you ____________________________. LOL! Let me stop. Girl, work through your jitters and start preparing your wedding. Want Killer Legs? Try These Exercises

1. Take your lunch break.
The reason the U.S. Department of Labor mandates breaks during the workday is because it is insane to work non stop and not eat, let along stretch your legs! So honor the laws in place for your health and stop scarfing down your turkey sandwich at your desk. Instead, go out and pick up lunch, power walking on the way there and back. After awhile make it harder and pick a locale further away from your office. The faster you get used to walking the more calories you burn. Win, win, WIN! Don’t want to buy lunch out every day? That’s cool, pack your lunch and power walk to a nearby park or playground. Not only will you get a much needed break from the office, but your quick commute will serve your body and mind in a way that lunch at your cubicle never could.

2. Run your errands.
Stop texting and emailing your coworkers silly one liners, and take the chance to unglue your hips from your not-so-cushy-chair and actually walk to their desk. You may think this lends a minimal calorie burn, but a little activity done often goes a long way! So goodbye sedentary lifestyle, hello extra burn.

3. Work-Out (for real).
Staring at your computer not only makes your eyes cross after a couple of hours but also makes you the chic no one wants to “cross.” So break up your work day with a quick workout. 10 minutes tops. Do each exercise 10 times, or for an extra challenge try and pump out as many reps as you can in 30 seconds. Perform this circuit once or even 2-3 times a day and wallah…you just clocked a legitimate session.

Try these exercises

• Tricep Dips – Place your hands under your hips and slide of your chair. Keep your body parallel to the chair and lower your hips by bending your elbows. Make sure you are not just dropping your hips up and down. Roll the shoulders back and engage your tricep muscles (those sexy muscles in the back of your arms). Swivel chairs are great because they are unstable and therefore make you engage your core much more, so don’t be afraid to wobble a bit.
• Leg Lifts – Super discreet since your legs will be tucked under your desk. This triple whammy will work your quadriceps, core, and stretch your hamstrings all at the same time. Begin by extending one leg out in front of you and flex your foot towards your ankle. Tighten all the muscles in your leg and slightly lock your knee. Without relaxing your muscles or bending your knee, lift your leg up and down. Do 10 reps and then switch sides. Too easy? Drape your bowling bag….I mean your purse across your shin. The weight coupled with the instability of your bag will definitely kick things up a notch.
• Bicep Curls – Sine you have your 10lb purse near by might as well work the front of your arms (your biceps). Hold your purse in a way that your wrist is neutral and curl your purse towards your shoulder. Release and repeat 10 times before switching sides.
• Tummy Tuck – No knife necessary. Flatten your abs by squeezing your knees together and drawing them up towards your chest. For the easiest version hold on to the sides of your chair. Once your core strength increases remove your hands and play with holding the knees up a little longer before lowering them back towards the floor.

4. Woosah.
Make your world a better place by taking 5 minutes every now and then to relax, stretch, and breathe.

• Spine Twist. Sit tall in your seat and wrap your hand around the opposite knee, keep twisting by looking behind you. Hold for three deep breaths before repeating on the other side.
• Chest/Upper Back Stretch. Sit tall and interlace your hands behind your head. Inhale and stretch the chest muscles by pulling the elbows back and the shoulder blades together. Then exhale and draw your elbows together while gently relaxing your neck in order to stretch the upper back. Repeat 3-4 times.
• Hip Stretch. Cross your leg, ankle to opposite knee. Sit tall as you gently press the knee of the crossed leg down towards the ground. Hold for three deep breaths before repeating on the other side.
• Hamstring Stretch. Open up the muscles in the back of your leg by placing your heel on top of a hip height object, such as a small filing cabinet. Keep your leg straight and reach towards your toe without rounding your spine. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat on the other side.

In an interview with CNN, Jay-Z explained that supporting gay marriage was “the right thing to do” and that it’s something that holds our country back. “What people do in their own homes is their business and you can choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination plain and simple.” Jay-Z also dug into the root of the same sex marriage issue. It’s not about votes for Obama, it’s about the people.

It’s the people that you’d think would support Obama the most (aka the black people that voted him in office in 2008) that are seemingly turning their backs on him–well maybe not the entire way. Black pastors at various churches around the U.S. are conflicted about their support of President Obama since his decision to support gay marriage. Certainly Obama knew there would be backlash attached to his support, so I definitely appreciate how gangsta Obama was in supporting gay marriage, even though there would be some push back from his supporters. This just goes to show that no matter what the issue is and if Obama believes in it, he will stand for it. There’s something to be said about a President that believes in something–anything other than what the majority expects of him.

I wonder which superstar is going to be next in line to support President Obama’s decision to stand behind gay marriage? I also wonder when will churches start acting like Christians–you know–all accepting, all loving? Let’s discuss on Twitter @Rhapsodani.

My stance on this issue is very simple. I have full trust in my pediatrician and his recommendations for my child. My daughter’s pediatrician has been there from the very first day my daughter was born. He is a well respected phenomenal pediatrician. When it came time for my daughter to get her first shots he informed me of all the risks but also informed me of all the benefits. The ultimate decision was still up to my husband and I.

Ultimately we chose to go with the doctor’s recommendations and administer the shots. Some may totally disagree but as parents we have the right to choose. The American Academy of  Pediatrics provide an enouroums amount of  resources on educating the public about the importance of immunizations. I say, educate yourself first before you make a decision. My daughter has taken about eight shots since she’s been born and she is a perfectly healthy little girl.

La is also getting ready to launch her make up line, Motives For Lala, and her manager tells her that she has to go to Miami to promote the line at a convention, on top of all her auditions! That’s great but the only problem is that she thought that she was going to be able to go home tonight to be with her family! “I don’t even have time to have sex with my husband.” She says. But, absence makes the heart grow fonder so La and Melo should be juuuust fine!

La let’s Melo know that she won’t be home when he gets there and he sounds a little disappointed. La is upset that she made her hubby sad, but gets over it fast because they’re headed to MIAMI!

The convention in Miami goes great, and La’s whole family (except Melo) comes down to support her. After the convention, La thinks that it’s time to go home when she finds out that she has to go out of town AGAIN on another business trip. “I’ve worked so hard to have a successful career that now it’s really starting to have an effect on my relationship,” La says. Yikes, it’s hard having two super successful people in one relationship.

“The New Normal” follows a gay Beverly Hills couple as they try to start a family. The two turn to a surrogate, Goldie (Georgia King). Nene gets to play Rocky, one of the gay guy’s assistants. On the way back to their rooms, Tami decides that she’s going to go through Kesha’s phone while Shaunie, Ev and Suzie just sit back and watch her do it. Sure, they think that Tami’s actions are wrong but none of them are brave enough to say anything to her.

Once they make it back to the room, Kesha is shown crying hysterically and only wants her purse back. Tami barges into Kesha’s room with Shaunie and Ev by her side and demands an apology from her and tells her that if she wants her purse back that she needs to say “please” and “thank you”. Watching this scene totally hurt my heart , as Tami was shown towering over Kesha as she’s crying with most confused look on her face and Shaunie and Ev just standing around watching. Clearly, Kesha is “not about this life” and for Tami to just take advantage of Kesha in this situation was more than disgusting, it was embarrassing!
Eventually, Kesha “politely” asks for her purse back from Tami, and after a few more “b****” out of Tami’s mouth, she finally throws it at her and walks out the room, leaving Shaunie and Ev to talk to Kesha.

They try to explain to Kesha that Tami doesn’t like to be talked about behind her back in no way shape or form, and all she wanted was for Kesha to talk to her in her face about her problems. My issue with this is, who doesn’t talk? Everybody does, and everytime someone says something bad about someone else, I wouldn’t expect them to have to apologize for their words! Maybe it’s just me, but everybody is entitled to their opinion, even if it’s about someone else!

Kesha explains to the girls that all her life she’s felt like she didn’t fit in and was too white for the black girls and too black for the white girls, and while Tami doesn’t understand that her comments to Kesha were offensive, they were and struck a nerve with her. Kesha also says that she wants to go home (smart decision) because she has no reason to be there anymore. Sigh.

You would think that this was enough bullying to go around for one episode, but nope, these girls aren’t done. As promised, they gather up a bunch of dead fish to plant around Kenya’s room so that upon her arrival, her room smells a little “fishy”. SMH, they know Kenya is a little off her rocker so I’m curious to see what will happen when Kenya finally arrives.

If the FBI and prosecutors can prove Zimmerman intentionally went after and shot Martin because he is African-American, the sentence could escalate to the death penalty. Personally, haven’t they proved that Zimmerman went after Martin from the recorded 911 call when the operator told Zimmerman not to follow him, even though he kept right on pursuing Martin? What more proof do they need?

Zimmerman maintains that he shot Martin in self-defense because Martin punched, kicked and knocked him to the ground. I’m pretty sure I’d do the same if I were fighting for my life because some man was approaching me with a gun.

I sure do hope the FBI figures out that Zimmerman meant to shoot Martin because of the color of his skin. To add insult to injury, now Zimmerman’s father, Robert Zimmerman, is complaining about his lie never being the same. Since his son’s case has been so sensationalized, in order to remain safe, Zimmerman’s been hotel hopping under assumed names. With Zimmerman’s life turned upside down and expenses soaring, the retired magistrate wants the public to be clear that he has not received a cent of donations from anyone, despite the $204,000 George Zimmerman has collected through a website to help pay for his defense.

Y’all already know how I feel about fights in relationships. Rather than breathe hot sweet tart breath into my man’s face spitting vile language in an ungodly tone or snapping at every attempt of an apology I’d rather be naked. I’d rather have our bodies connected laying out tension, smoothing out kinks, rebuilding a rhythm than argue. You can say I avoid conflict in relationships, I will admit that.

Let’s kiss and make up. But the reality is that if a conflict is indeed a reoccurring one or one that requires more than just a bump and grind solution then sex won’t solve a damn thing. I wouldn’t lie to you now.

I created a 3 fight rule that I abide by, not only in romantic relationships but in all relationships. I created it subconsciously because I have a nasty habit of giving folks more chances than I should. The pushover look doesn’t really compliment my skin tone or theses new shoes I bought so the 3 fight rule is a good look.

What is this rule? Well I only fight about an issue or series of issues 3 times. I can only be in 3 major roller coaster rides with you or repeat myself with a particular conflict 3 times. This excludes infidelity and abuse. I have zero tolerance for betrayal and abuse in any form- sorry.

And I didn’t just come up with this number by fluke, it just happens that I was  reflecting and found that when I gave more than 3 tries at a particular issue I either lost my footing or allowed myself to be manipulated.

Do I recommend this rule to anyone? Sure why not. I especially recommend it if you are the type of person who is working on developing a firm foundation within. Some of us have allowed others to step on us for a long time and transitioning to a place where you make decisions that serve your interests instead of others takes time-I understand that.

Denzel Washington stepped into Frank Sinatra’s shoes with 2004’s The Manchurian Candidate, and even Will Smith took a stab at it with the reboot of I Am Legend (inspired by the 1971 Charlton Heston starrer, The Omega Man). Both actors have been known to break the color barrier when it comes to casting, but before recently many women haven’t been able to accomplish the same.

That is, until 2008 when we saw TV veteran Debbie Allen direct her Tony award-winning big sister, fellow small screen legend Phylicia Rashad, in the role of Big Mama in the first all-black production of Tennessee Williams’ classic play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.  The revival—which also starred Anika Noni Rose, James Earl Jones and Terrence Howard—earned rave reviews and helped usher in a new wave of black talent to the stage. It also challenged the narrow perceptions of black characters by mainstream audiences.

And it didn’t stop there. Just last month, another one of Williams’ plays, A Streetcar Named Desire, added some color to the Broadway stage. Soul Food alum Nicole Ari Parker stepped into the role of Blanche, previously played by Vivien Leigh. She joined Blair Underwood as Stanley (formerly portrayed by Marlon Brando), with Broadway newcomer Wood Harris as Mitch and Tony nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent) as Underwood’s leading lady, Stella. Although none of them earned Tony nominations, despite being critically acclaimed, each performance has spellbound audiences since the show debuted on April 22^nd.

So when news broke out that the once colorless drama Steel Magnolias was getting an all-black remake, even fans of the original 1989 movie got excited. Then came the incredible cast announcement: Queen Latifah will executive produce the film for Lifetime television, and star in it along with Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye (Pariah), Rashad and her newly minted Tony-nominated daughter, Condola (Stick Fly). The all-black female cast, originally led by Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, and Julia Roberts, respectively, is set to dazzle audiences in the film that will reportedly air later this year.

Expect to see more stories like these getting the black treatment. With the success of the aforementioned productions, and expected praise for Steel Magnolias, this trend may prove to be one of the ways black actors can find diversified roles that will further spotlight their talent.

The truth is, being a healthy woman isn’t about getting on a scale or measuring your waistline—and we can’t afford to think that way. Instead, we need to start focusing on what matters–on how we feel, and how we feel about ourselves.

For me, improving my health started with an eye-opening conversation I had with our family pediatrician when my girls were very young. He asked me, simply, “What are you all eating?” And as I answered his question, I realized our family needed to make some changes–and so we did. We started eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking more water, watching our portions, and eating less takeout.

According to Huffington Post, every year, Martin and his older brother (Jahvaris) would give Fulton a card and a hug. Sometimes they would bring flowers. Last year Martin surprised her with a key chain. Every year, Sybrina would gather her two boys to attend services at Antioch Missionary Baptist, a large, popular church close to their home in suburban Miami. As a woman of tradition, Fulton had a hard time trying to make the service this year.

Fulton has been attending rallies around the country (many at churches), interviews and town halls and has found that her time away from the cameras for prayer with her church has been scarce. ”I would tell [mothers] to increase their faith in God. Just be prayerful that things will change, the negatives of the world. People will change their hearts and minds,” she said. “It’s the will of God,” Fulton explained.

As a working woman, it’s amazing that Fulton has one less weight to carry. Her coworkers have raised enough money to allow for her to have eight months paid leave from work. The Miami Herald reports that Sybrina Fulton, a 23-year veteran of the county housing authority, received $40,825 worth of donated vacation time from a over 100 of her coworkers.

Fulton will be using her time off to continue fighting for “Justice For Trayvon–” which is an organization that seeks to change what it calls dangerous gun laws around the country — including the vaguely worded ‘Stand Your Ground’ law under which Zimmerman claimed he acted in self-defense.

The other day I went searching the internet for exciting info to share with the family and I came across a theory by psychologist John Lee called “Love Styles” or “The Colors of Love”. The theory identifies 6 distinct love styles that individuals practice in their romantic relationships.

• Eros – a passionate physical and emotional love based on aesthetic enjoyment; stereotype of romantic love
• Ludus – a love that is played as a game or sport; conquest; may have multiple partners at once
• Storge – an affectionate love that slowly develops from friendship, based on similarity (kindred to Philia)
• Pragma – love that is driven by the head, not the heart; undemonstrative
• Mania – obsessive love; experience great emotional highs and lows; very possessive and often jealous lovers
• Agape – selfless altruistic love; spiritual

I’m sure by just scanning the list we all know couples and individuals who fit in each category. How does knowing about this theory help one improve on what they already have or what they want? Well the idea behind the theory is to form a union with someone who has the same love style as yourself so that you have someone who understands why for example, devotion to the church is important or why you enjoy flirting in front of your partner. I personally think that the 6 six love types are a bit extreme based on the short descriptions given above however I wouldn’t discredit this theory.

I took the quiz and found out my love style is “Eros” which is too true. My head stays in the clouds I love all things beautiful and I am extremely passionate about every aspect of a relationship. A Ludus would walk all over me then get cut, a pragma would bore me and a mania would get on my damn nerves.

The downside to being an Eros, well we want everyone to be an Eros and often get hurt. *sigh* Tis the story of my life! I can say with confidence that a fellow Eros is hanging around and I’ve never had to do as little explaining about why I’m so loca, to anyone in my entire life and vice versa. It’s refreshing, but still keeping my eyes and options open in the interim.
