The same applies for people tht have never spent one day in a set of combat boots because distance, being alone for extended periods of time not being with your significant other will place a serious strain on you mentally.
In that case I will give me own step: Wait!
most tours of duty are about 1-3 years, and deployments are usually less than 8 months, if you trying to hold it down, just be friends and then see where it goes from there. I ave seen dozens if not hundred of cases in my 12 years of globe trotting where it didn’t work, and I can say that technology it not the key, it’s commitment! And most people do not have a clue to what that really means.
