Actress Tiffany Haddish’s skyrocket into Hollywood success did not come easy.

The Los Angeles native overcame the odds of a troubled childhood to become the hilarious sister-girl who keeps us laughing with her jokes and antics.

Her starring role in the box office mega-hit Girls Trip solidified Haddish’s place in comedic history. Here are some daring moves the 38-year-old made throughout her life to become the sought-after entertainer she is today.

1. Became The Matriarch Of Her Family At A Young Age

As the oldest of five children, Haddish became the primary caregiver of her siblings at the age of 9. When the kids were put in foster care, Haddish used comedy as a way to cope with her changing environment. At 17, Haddish attended the Laugh Factory Comedy Camp where she was mentored by other comedic heavy hitters including Richard Pryor and the Wayans Brothers.

2. Became The Undisputed Star Of Girls Trip

Although Haddish made her way through the Hollywood circle guest starring on That’s So Raven, Chelsea Lately and Def Comedy Jam, Tiff’s big break came with the 2017 box office success of Girls Trip. Haddish’s unapologetic performance earned her critical acclaim and established her as one of the most sought after comediennes. From her risqué scene with a grapefruit to her wig-snatching dance moves, Tiffany was the best girlfriend we all know and love.

3. Earned Her First Comedy Special On Showtime

Riding the success of ‘Girls Trip,’ Haddish scored a comedy special on Showtime: Tiffany Haddish: She Ready! From the Hood to Hollywood. The phrase ‘she ready,’ has become a mantra for both Tiffany and her fans.

4. Made History On ‘Saturday Night Live’

On November 11th, Tiffany Haddish made history as the first Black female stand-up comedienne to host the late-night sketch show. Haddish owned the stage in the spotlight, earning nods and recognition from her Hollywood peers.

5. Honored At ABFF

Tiffany Haddish was celebrated alongside fellow entertainers like Ava DuVernay, Omari Hardwick and Billie Dee Williams at this year’s ABFF Honors, sponsored by Cadillac. Moments before receiving the coveted statue, Haddish revealed to E! that despite feeling hunger pains, she was overwhelmed with joy and trying not to shed a tear. If that isn’t impressive enough, Haddish will be presenting at this year’s Academy Awards.
