While promoting her new film, Miracles From HeavenHip Hollywood asked Queen Latifah to weigh in on the Zoe Saldana controversy. Zoe has been blasted in the media for going through an extensive process to darken her skin and wear a prosthetic nose in order to depict singer and activist Nina Simone

“This is a creative medium,” said Queen. “Why do we all have to look a certain way, be a certain way, this is what we are fighting for is that freedom.”

She went on to add another comment that has us looking at her sideways.

“Lets not be confused, Zoe Saldana is of African descent. Do you know what you really fighting? I don’t know if you really get it. The bottom line is can she play Nina Simone and pull it off,” she said, then added, “I support Zoe. I think she’s a brilliant actress and I think she is going to do a great job.”

It seems as if Queen wants us to calm down because at least Nina was portrayed by a woman of color and not a white woman so….what’s the issue? According to Queen’s rhetoric, we should look forward to her portrayal of Michelle Obama.

In other news! Some of our favorite celebs spent their 20s and 30s building their brands and now they’re using their 40s to start families. Less than a month after model Tyra Banks42 had her son York via surrogate, Queen also shared that at age 45, she’s thinking about having a baby.

“I had to get a lot of partying out of my system early in life for about 40 years, you know what I’m saying. I’m good now. I think I’m ready” she said in an interview with E!

“I’m always thinking about (becoming a mother). Hopefully one day it will be my blessing,” she said. “Being a mom is probably the most unselfish thing you can do.”

The Bessie star added that adoption may be in the cards for her. There are a lot of kids that need love out there, I want to be there for somebody. I got to get all this stuff and give it somebody.”

Relentlessly private about her personal life, when asked when we can expect the busy actress and producer to bring her little prince or princess home she added, “You’ll see when I’m lugging the baby on the hip that there is actually a youngin’ around here,” she joked.
