NBC's '73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards' - Show

With Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant a shoo-in to sweep the 88th Annual Academy Awards, this is undoubtedly Leonardo DiCaprio’s year to finally take home the golden statuette. As fans of Leo, we’re excited for the astounding actor as he deserves every bit of recognition. However, the academy, as always, ignored some of the stellar work by Black filmmakers and thespians this year.

Concussion, starring Will Smith, was snubbed of any nominations. Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan remain unmentioned. Idris Elba was overlooked for his sinister but brilliant role in Beasts Of No Nation and Straight Out Of Compton a simple nod for ‘Best Screenplay.’ (The screen play writers of the Straight Outta Compton are White.) Meanwhile Mad Max: Fury Road was the worst movie of 2016.

Sadly, we’re not surprised. Disappointed. But not surprised.
