You seem so upset. That young lady looks white thus making her “wrong”, bottom line. I love my people to death but when we respond as you did it just reminds us that some of us ligther skinned folks think they are better than some of us darker skinned folks thus keeping us separated instead of keeping us together thus being WRONG. I’m light skinned and I’m beyond tried and disgusted by all the damn near white girls in all of the music videos. Next time try to put something online that has much more of a purpose in life, like trying to assist your people and discuss things like how to make a change in world. Back in the day when Rap music/Rand B videos first started up (if you can recall) most of the girls were neighborhood girls.At one point just being a regular looking sista from the neighborhoods was considered cute.Those days are long gone.

Now a days you need to be either mixed or Hispanic to get the starring role in Black music videos…If you take a look at Reggeton videos the Black latino artist dont even have Black Latinas as their main chick in the starring role.

Everything at the end of the day im sure is left up to the artist.Being Black anymore isnt considered “Cream Of The Crop” anymore to our own men.Thats what hurts the most.Thats why we always have these types of discusions.

We can forget about getting mad about it though,It’s not going to end anytime soon.I was just throwing in my two cents on the matter.

Color remains an issue. I had a cousin that lived in Puerto Rico and visited him He was friendly with this one particular family that owned some type of business. They were congenial to me but my cousin told me how they treated the dark skinned Puerto Ricans. I bought a book about the island while there, the book said all puerto Ricans learned to speak English but refused to speak it when they came to the US especially if they were dark skinned because they didn’t want people to think they were Black.Fisk university woudn’t allow blaks to enroll there if you were darker than a paper bag,this a predominately Black university.I’ve experienced this color thing. My neighbor is VERY light.She doesn’t but a lot of her relatives pass and have limited use for the relatives that do.Try two people applying for the same job,one light the other dark.If either gets it more than likely it will be the light one. Ask P diddy and Ochocinco about their prefference and a lot of our WELL paid professionals ,a WHOLE lot of them marry WHITE Goes back to slavery.

“Looking white” DOES NOT mean you ARE white, and it’s not about “having a tan” b/c that DOES NOT determine your ethnicity, so that’s really neither here nor there. Also, wanting more (dark-skinned) black women in videos while, at the same time, saying women degrade themselves is a contradictory argument anyway. All in all, this woman is BEAUTIFUL, and if there were TOO MANY black women “degrading themselves” in these videos, then we’d STILL have something to b*tch about.

Personally, I would like to see more positive images of Black women on television, especially BET. As a Black woman, I feel there are too many negative images posted, glamorized and depicted, in regards to Black women in videos and the media at large. I can honestly understand the frustration of many Black women who feel that other races plague the TV screen, while we are disproportionately represented on television. As a race and community, we must first embrace our own heritage and others will follow suit. It must begin with BET.

I agree with “Upper _Class, it is very important to discuss these issues. I am a dark skinned sister in my mid 30’s and I experienced it all. One side of my family is light skinned; the other side is mostly dark skinned. So for me it started out when I was a child and continued from there. Where I come from most black men do not love themselves or have love for black woman. It’s funny to hear them (black men) say they love their mamas but hate black woman and will never be with a black women… To me that means he hates the woman who brought him into this world and every other black woman who was in his life (granda’s, sisters and so on). I think somewhere along the lines there was a miss-communication, miss-understanding of how strong and important a black woman is and has been in our history. We as black women have been VERY IMPORTANT in the lives of black children as well as white children.
As for videos, Ladies remember dark skinned or light skinned love yourself. Look @ some of the examples of some of our black men n who they have fallen to (OJ, Tiger) need I say more….

it is important to discuss these issues because, although i’m not necessarily “dark-skinned” (i’m brown) im not blind.

i see the perpetual message being shoved down everyone’s throats, and that is, light = better and it’s sickening.

videos are the main form of entertainment young people devour, and these days more than ever there seems to be a recurring theme in most of them: get money, get a light if not white wife and several light if not white mistresses on the side and you’re a “real” man.

how can these visual messages be anything but destructive?

and btw…i see some people saying she’s Brazilian so she’s not white.

actually, Brazil was conquered by Portuguese, who are European hence white, and many, many Brazilians are pure Portuguese in ancestry, hence white just as many are straight black descended from Africans. peace.
