HelloBeautiful.com’s “Base Level” column features the hottest new artists we’re buzzing about. Before they make it to the summit of superstardom, we spot them at base level–the beginning of their hopeful journey to the top.

DC native, Kevin Ross, is Motown’s next big star. Hoping to carry on the tradition Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Dianna Ross set before him, Kevin Ross is heavily influenced by his predecessors. Ross already understands that R&B is “not just a specific sound, it’s a feeling.” The 20-something-year-old has hit the road opening up for Maxwell and Ne-Yo and collaborated with the likes of Jamie Foxx, T.I., and Akon to name a few. We think it’s safe to say that Kevin Ross is already making a name for himself amongst the greats and luckily for us, he’s only just begun.

Get the scoop on Kevin Ross below:

Name: Kevin Ross

Age: 26

Hometown: Washington DC

Musical Influences: Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Maxwell, Prince, Michael Jackson, Ne-Yo…

When Did You Know This Is What You Wanted To Do? I knew I wanted to pursue a career in music by the time I was a sophomore in high school.

Biggest Break Thus Far?

This whole year has been a big break for me. Being on tour with Maxwell, to releasing my EP (Dialogue in the Grey), to touring with Ne-Yo as well.

How Do You Describe Your Sound?

I would describe my sound as Progressive R&B/Soul that bridges the gap between the past and present while embracing the future.

What Project Are You currently Promoting Or Working On?

“Dialogue in the Grey” EP is available now on all digital platforms! Back in studio, gearing up for my full length album which is slated to come out 2015!
